Stripping and Priming Parts - 356 Restoration

Using phosphoric acid and rattle can 2k epoxy primer to clean up some old rusty parts. We'll do a bit of testing a bit down the road. We might also compare a couple different types of rattle can epoxy at some point.

Has it been 12yrs already? Parts are looking good! Darrin is a walking encyclopedia on car engines, paint, racing... Btw, do you have a goal as to when you want that porsche on the road?

It has been 12 years! I want the Porsche on the road asap. I'd like to paint it in the spring. Not sure if I'll get there in time, but that's my goal. From there, the motor and trans are done and ready to pop in... Maybe driving in the fall if everything lines up. If not, who knows!

"Popcycled". Thats a throwback... One of a kind guy with some very creative methods. I have used the spraymax clear but havent tried the epoxy. Its perfect because you get a good 2k epoxy applied without having to get all involved with a paint gun.

Agreed. I've been using it on internal parts mostly. Using the rattle 2k beats the pants off getting the spray rig together to spray a 1/4 pint.

Clean-ups are a pain in the arse but that's a good way to clean while doing other stuff...Nice result Greg.

The acid rust removal worked great! Klean! Great that they located more of the 356 parts. Old Porsche parts can’t be cheap.

I love the phosphate acid. I made a homemade formula for rust removal and that’s one of the ingredients. I’m going to make a video on it next week. So stay tuned. I watched your bottom of the door rust repair. Lots of work! That was the only thing that I didn’t need to do on my 356 . Every were else was gone so I consider that a blessing that I didn’t have to do that. Keep up the good work buddy

Thanks! I think I'm going to revisit the doors... I saw something a few weeks back, so I bought the replacement panels for the whole bottom. Shouldn't be too sketchy! Looking forward to seeing your rust remover concoction.

You may be able to turn the nozzle part of the cap on the spray can to adjust direction of spray as far as vertical or horizontal.
