Nice work Greg, you showing how to breaking it down to several individual steps and don't worry about trying to make it all in one piece.

It's a nice project and I like to do the same as far as breaking it down into small jobs. I am surprised you didn't de-skin both doors, that way you can metal finish rust convert and prime and paint the internal structure and wheel out the door skins and then put it back together.

I may still de-skin them. I needed to get them structurally back together so I could them them mounted back on the body... I've been doing the rockers/logitudinals this week. I wanted to get them "good enough" to make sure the door openings were correct.

Really enjoying this project. Curious if you see the tormach having a role in this at all? just happen to see it in the backgound lol
@GregsGarage
@GregsGarage Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if the Tormach will get involved. It's going to be a stock restoration, so I won't have anything custom to machine unless there's something missing that I can't replace... Maybe a bushing or two... The next project will have some machining.

Looking good! 😎Was the car sandblasted or dipped?

It was blasted. They did a pretty good job, but I've found some issues where they used too much pressure. The metal on these cars is LIGHT. I have been surprised how easy it is to damage.

Str8 6👍. Looked pretty bad but after sharpieing it it made it more manageable. Lol. Love my jegs fluxcore welder. Really maters on what brand wire you buy tho. Love it. Comin along. Happy sunday🌄🎩

I agree. The wire makes a lot of difference esp on light gauge. I like the Hobart brand, but I can't always find it. Others work well too, that one is just my favorite.

Nice! What gauge sheet metal are you using?
@GregsGarage

20 gauge for the patches. I think the original is 19 but that is almost impossible to find.

Looks like these things rust from the inside out. A shame that the 356s didn’t get dunked in the rust preventer the later models did. Their shape is the sexiest of all the Porsches. Just like the Karmann Ghias the bodies are all welded together and smoothed out which is even more of a challenge to work on them.

They are an awful lot like the Ghias. The more I get into it, the more familiar I am with the Karmann shop's techniques. Hopefully my experience with that car will help with this 356.
