Being a 4 door "family" car, it is surprising how clean everything is. Except what was under the back seat when you first started. No surprise guests or pests. Just be on the lookout for maybe a factory marking left behind by a assembly line worker. Sort of like an Easter egg hunt. Good luck on your cleaning. Be well, looking forward to the next video 👍

Kyle, you have the patience of Jobe. The dismantling of your Chevelle looks so tedious. I would be pulling my hair out if I would tear my 69 Malibu down like that. You make it look so easy and fun. I can’t wait to see the finished product. Kudos to you. Yellow Malibu from Ohio.
@saabkyle043 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Randy! That patience comes from many lessons learned LOL. This took me a few days to do with filming. It wasn't hard necessarily, but it was definitely tricky since most everything attaches to the instrument bezel and not the core structure of the dash (which there isn't much). I really wanted to see how it was all attached and it was quite fascinating, especially how the original A/C was set up!

Those Dakota gauges look great, but I noticed they miss out on one of the subtle cool features of the 69 cluster. The original high beam indicator is a blue Chevy bow tie. It’s the main reason I haven’t updated mine. I looked up the Dakota gauges and, sadly the indicator isn’t replicated.

@ZacharyWhite253 жыл бұрын
On the subject of the steering wheel, are you going to keep the column shifter? Or are you going to give it a floor/console shifter? I’d like to see it stay a column shift car.

You know, they make modern headunits that look like retro ones. Things like bluetooth and aux connections are no problem now for restorations

Yeah I know, I'm looking at some options from RetroSound. We'd like to have those features without taking away the original "look". Neither of us want to have some crazy sound system, just a decent upgrade.

How do you think the dash was attached at the factory? It looks like it would be as complicated to fit as it was for you to remove it...
@saabkyle043 жыл бұрын
The dash core is welded to the body. Thankfully that part isn't rusted out so it doesn't have to be removed.

One thing that baffles me with the VintageAir systems is they all seem to lack a fresh air intake. All air is just circulated.
@saabkyle043 жыл бұрын
You are correct, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. Most aftermarket AC systems cycle the compressor when in defrost mode. This dehumidifies the air so the window does not fog up just like a modern car system and unlike the factory AC system that came when these cars were new. It is much less complicated and provides about the same results as introducing outside air. Just look at how complex the OEM AC setup was in this car and you see why they haven't made a system that incorporates fresh air ducting. Plus, this will be a much cleaner setup that'll eliminate a lot of components and free up a ton of space in the engine bay.
@houseofno3 жыл бұрын
@@saabkyle04 I totally agree with you. I haven't tried it myself, but this definitely the best of both worlds. Trying to rebuild an antiquated AC system outdated by decades only to get a substandard experience just isn't worth it. Ditto for trying to retrofit a newer system into an older car. Vintage Air makes some very good units. A shame my 1988 BMW 750iL isn't supported.

Ahhhh good times! To this day I still don't know if I installed that radio right haha. These old radios are finicky. I sold the Sports Coupe a while ago.
