Zhenis Avenue - one of the central avenues of old Astana. It connects the former "Railway workers palace" and the former central stadium named after Khajimukan Munaitpasov. The avenue is crossed by 9 streets and avenues. The Saken Seifullin Agrotechnical University and the National Academy of Music are located on the avenue.
Former "Railway workers palace" is located in the northern part of the Astana, not far from the old railway station, at the crossing of Zhenis Avenue, Akzhaiyk and Birzhan-sal streets. The building was constructed in 1954, it's one of the oldest buildings in the city.
The construction of the palace was caused by the absence of an up-to-date cultural and leisure center in the city. The "Railway Center of Culture" was opened in December, 1956. The audience hall was designed for 800 seats, also there was a small hall in the building for 150 seats, necessary rooms for classes, library, and sports hall. The palace was assigned the name of Vladimir Lenin.
In January 2000, after a major restoration at the palace the National Opera and Ballet Theatre named after Kulyash Bayseitova had its opening night. The total area prior to the reconstruction was 4500 sq.m, after the reconstruction - 10161 sq.m.
Currently "Zhastar" theatre is located in the building.
