This video is a detailed explanation of a variation form of Bhastrika Pranayama in which we breathe with full lung capacity. The explanation is followed by a nice session of breathing. Bhastrika pranayama means the ‘bellows breath’. Here we inhale and exhale forcefully, strengthening and opening up the breathing system, oxygenating the body and releasing a lot of energy.
Also see the traditional form of bhastrika breathing here: • Bhastrika Pranayama/ B...

Thank you so very much, now this has become my daily morning practice and I feel the energy . What I have noticed about it is after every round of breathing and while holding the breath and relaxing into the moment, I feel my body like sort of "moving" left and right.... side to side horizontally and vertically ... slight oscillating movements.. voluntarily ... like the atom ... interesting !!

I just found your video... What led me here is what I read about “The Levitating Saint” from the book Autobiography of a Yogi. I’d really like to to start practicing bastrika pranayama but not until I fully understand how to do it properly. I meditate several hours every day and I’m looking for pranayama techniques that will help me reach deeper states of meditation. Your video has been a great help! Thanks!

That is wonderful to hear brother. Please see if you really get benefits from stronger breathing practices like Bhastrika for meditation purposes or if the slower ones like Pranava pranayama : kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGOWnX6PmNSMn6c work better to focus the mind. The stronger breathing practices help to cleanse and open up the energy and nervous system and to deeply open up the mind, but from there to enter into deep meditation the slower practices are much better. Once a cloth is well washed and clean there is no more need to clean it , then it should dry. Likewise after opening up and cleansing your energy system there is now need to do that more, then let the mind settle and the consciousness rise. Peace and blessings, Michaël

Some parts of our body might be pretty stubborn sometimes hey ;-) if it doesn't feel comfortable to sit on the floor, in half-lotus or full lotus. Please use a chair. This will work as good. Listen to your body, always 🙏 peace and good energy dear friend.

depends on the type of pranayama. This will be too much information to explain in just a comment, sorry ;) In bhastrika, hold it while doing the breath hold (Antar or Bahya kumbhaka) at the end of a round.

I understood Bhastrika or bellows breath to be the forceful inhalation/exhalation through the nose while the belly moves in and out. Can you explain? Namaste
@yogalap
@yogalap 6 жыл бұрын
Dear Lynn, this is an alternative form of Bhastrika pranayama, this is full yogic breathing. Just using the belly and not the chest is also a form with its own benefits, in this practice, the emphasis is more on the opening and strengthening of lungs and energy system. You can also do it with moving of the arms up and down with the breath, you can also do it with fast breath like 2 times a second etc. etc. Many different ways, not only one way is the right way ;) This way of doing it is in my opinion the most effective. Peace and blessings, Michaël

"According to ancient yoga books and manuscripts, the goal of yoga breathing exercises is to "restrain", "hold", "suspend", and "calm" the breath 24/7. See the quotes from 3 most important yoga manuscripts (Hatha Yoga Pradipika, the Gheranda Samhita and the Shiva Samhita) on the page Yoga Benefits: www.normalbreathing.com/yoga-benefits.php . There are no hints or any quotes in these classical yoga texts on Hatha Yoga about "breathing more" or "breathing deeper." According to these books, progress in Pranayama (the main yoga breathing exercise) is measured in longer cycles for breath holds, inhalations, and exhalations. This is possible only if one's unconscious breathing becomes smaller and slower." In short, there are no references in any of these original texts to "deep breathing" and ideas related to the intensive expelling of poisons from the lungs. "In fact, you cannot find the term "deep breathing" in ancient yoga texts. They suggest the opposite ideas: to restrain, keep in, calm, and hold the breath." Therefore, the goal of Pranayama practice, especially to increase oxygenation, is Kumbhaka, or retention ~ Namaste

@@YoginiCeleste Thank you for your comment, it seems to make sense to me, as ive come to believe that the meditation goal is stillness, i feel most at peace and comfort during meditation when my breaths are barely taking place, and when they do they are gentle, barely noticeable, and yet they are most effective.

Hi Michael, could you clarify tummy and diaphragm action I mean if you breath in you breath into your tummy first( you push your tummy), than you pump the air up?
@yogalap
@yogalap 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Dariusz, good question. So you start the breath into the belly and then from the belly you breath further up towards the chest. When you have fully inhaled you should relax the belly, don´t try to keep the air in the belly. Just try and see what feels natural, what feels most `logic` . Peace and blessings, Michael

Hi, just to be clear, for this one you breathe out through your mouth?
@yogalap
@yogalap 5 жыл бұрын
In this video I do it in and out through nose. If you want to make the exercise stronger you breath in and out through mouth (you can ventilate a greater amount of air and therefor more CO2 & O2 exchange). Breathing in through nose has the benefits of moisturizing and warming the air before it enters into the lungs. Enjoy the sessions! ;) Peace and good vibes, Michaël

Yeah bro now I know, in this bhastraka breathing should I hold the breath after exhale?
@yogalap
@yogalap 6 жыл бұрын
After a round you can apply breath hold, this is called Kumbhaka. There are 3 types of Kumbhakas. 1 : Antara Kumbhaka - Hold in breath after inhalation 2: Bahya Kumbhaka - Hold breath after exhalation 3: Kevela Kumbhaka - hold breath still, neither lungs full nor empty. You can apply first Kevela Kumbhaka for as long as you feel comfortable then followed by Antara Kumbhaka and after relax the breathing , that is a nice one. . Just be really careful with this type of strong breaths to not apply Antara kumbhaka (breathold with the lungs full ) after a round of this deep breaths, because it will be too much for your system and you might damage your brain and nervous system ! I am very serious, I have experienced this and have a lot of breathing experience, even then it is too much. Take it nice and easy ;) Peace and blessings .

@@yogalap Thank you! Finally the proper explanation I've been looking for. I always saw WHM as Bastrika but never had the affirmation till now. A lot of confusion on the Web with people teaching Bastrika as being Breath of Fire as well, which it is totally different.
