I want to build a testing machine just like that! I think impact testing is more important that tensile testing.

I was actually researching a good resin to print lowers myself lol. I'm an engineer myself so I really see the effort and value in this. You earned a subscriber.

Have you noticed any difference in performance with different layer orientations? Or is that not a thing with resin printers.
@MorlockEngineering
@MorlockEngineering 3 жыл бұрын
Nope. There are no layers really. If the technology continues to improve, we will see monolithic one-molecule printing. That should approach the strength of kevlar or UHMWPE.

Hey @HoffmanTactical , can you please relay your print settings to me? And what printer you used? I have some nylon green I’m just trying to get my settings dialed in correctly without wasting too Much of it. Your help is way way appreciated and thanks so much for being such an important part of the community. Much love ! Keep up the good work !

@@MorlockEngineeringcan you use infill materials for next-gen composite properties? I saw a foreign guy from Scandinavia try it out, but his choices of infill were...grossly sub-optimal

Nice benchy. You've clearly seen the other guy's work on ECM then. I think it could eventually be used for making parts like hammers too, not the kind you used for testing here. I hope to explore that more later this year. (Busy moving, at the moment, with very limited access to my tools.)

now in the case of that nylon reason, i would really like to see someone print miniatures out of it to see how it holds with detail because IF its super detailed.... and not too much a price difference... you would have minis that would pretty much survive anything

It would be helpful - as a benchmark - to run an FDM sample through your test.

Have you tested any of those lowers in a live fire test? I have always wanted to try resin for a lower but due to the brittleness, always decided against it. It's not cool when a lower just spontaneously explodes lol. But if this nylon stuff bends instead of explodes, that could make it viable to print a lower with a resin printer and get really nice looking lowers, smooth surfaces, etc. Especially with lowers designed for 3d printing like hoffman tactical's stuff. I have both a huge resin printer and very large FDM printers. All my 2A and/or functional printing is done on FDM and everything else is done via resin. I just love the resolution that the resin printers can achieve vs FDM. So handguards and decorative stuff, always done on resin, hands down, not even a close competition. If it could also print functionally.... duuude haha that would rule :D

Super interesting that you mention acrylic when talking about strength. The first thing I noticed was the blueish shine a thin layer of this resin has and it reminded my of some clear acrylic.

Yes😃! Please do more about that, I'm grateful to have found your channel. I will definitely buy the nylon resin because my prints are mostly on the technic heavy side of the printing spectrum where functionality, safety, precision and versatility are higher rated than the pretty looking. Also do more of the ECM as well, I need to make titanium parts and I would want to learn more about ECM titanium. I mean, what feeds and speeds, flow, voltage, etc. are required?🤔 Keep it up, pal! You are making awesome things there👍

Damn, I really underestimated the strength of nylon. So do you think this would be suitable for use in building an actual working firearm? I was thinking that cerakote could also solve the transparency problem, while also maybe adding a little extra protection to it.

Have you ever tested the lower actually firing it ?Do you think it would hold up to firing or do you think it would work on a frame? I know you said the phrozen tough nylon green resin was touger than the elegoo grey right?

Is the nylon resin stiff after curing? Does it resemble lastic or more like rubber? I'm not talking about flexibility but the strength with which it holds it's shape. If I print a box with it, will it hold the boxy shape or will it deform like rubber?

Do you have print settings for mono screen printers? I just got a bottle in the mail and I'm excited too get printing. I'm going to start out with my Siraya Blu settings and go from there I suppose. Although, I dyed the resin black, so I'm sure I'll have to up the exposure a bit.

I know I'm late to the game on this, but how does it hold up for balljoints? Does it dust really bad or does it work better than M58 ABS-Like resin that has basically no dusting? (Dusting being when the ball grinds against the inside of the joint the resin grinds away instead of glides over itself resulting in quickly deteriorating joints)
