You have to be aware they don’t look like this if u see them with your bare eyes, BUT it’s something special and unreal - everyone should put on the bucket list. And this was a real beautiful one with the multiple colours .. the pictures/timelaps are really nice. Because of the location there is a really nice point of view. This is why Svalbard is on my list .. I would love to shoot them from the top of this mountains… …main problem is, as she mentioned you need a very cold and windy night for great shoots (wind blows the clouds away and because of the missing clouds, is crispy cold) … but it’s so worth it.

It actually fools the eye a bit You see it then you try and watch part of it as it shifts but it morphs in such a way that you shift your gaze to follow more Constantly playing catch up ! No wonder the ancients thought it was from the God's

Your footage of the northern lights is gorgeous! I was on a northern lights tour in Reykjavik this same night (Oct 11) and we also had an incredible Aurora display. Seeing the northern lights for the first time and in such intensity, brought joyful tears to my eyes. It truly set the stage for an unbelievable first trip to Iceland. One experience I will never forget!

It's 7:30 in the morning in Seattle & I have tears streaming down my face over how beautiful lady Aurora is! Thank you for sharing her beauty with us! We had Aurora here in Seattle that same day, but the city lights prohibit her from showing off her full glory. There are folks who travel well north of the city, but it was too late on a work night for me to go. We don't usually have the overhead arching here because we are too south, but it's still incredible to see the photos & videos. You have captured her beautifully! Thank you for posting this ~ it's gonna be a great Sunday! :) Marianna

Cecilia, Thank you for this truly splendid view! Having now watched many of your videos since I hit the subscribe button some months ago, I must say the visual beauty of Svalbard is sometimes overwhelming. At 9:38, if you look to the left of the screen in the lower 1/3rd, is that the Pleiades star cluster? Are you familiar with the constellations? If not, you really should learn them, especially as the (astronomical) "seeing" from Svalbard will probably be excellent much of the time. ( And I recommend learning the constellations to everyone here! )

Thanks very much for posting this lovely video of Aurora Borealis! After the X1.1 x-ray solar flare at 0435 UTC on Friday 29 Oct 2021 - the strongest flare so far for solar cycle 25, I think - I was hoping to see the Southern Lights (Aurora Australis) last weekend due to the resulting coronal mass ejection (CME), but most of the CME went south of Earth and thus the predicted G3 level geomagnetic storm didn't materialise. I've seen Aurora Australis once from my location in Australia (in the early 2000s), and previously from Tasmania. As solar activity increases towards solar maximum of cycle 25, I'm looking forward to better chances of seeing the Southern Lights!

Awesome video of the n. lights Cecilia! Many years ago, growing up in N. Minnesota during a dual 30 and 7 year sunspot cycle peak, we saw the northern lights during the summer. I remember sitting in my back yard watching them with my folks and marveling at them. They only lasted a few weeks, but were positively spectacular covering all of the northern sky. To have them all winter long would be amazing. I loved Christopher's response..."seen them before...ho hum..." To have such a wonder be so common place!

Steph I - I am Canadian. In most places you hve to be lucky to see them. In the Northern portions of the provinces you will. Those areas are also the most difficult for a traveler- ie renting a car and hours/days long time consuming drives. You can see Northern lights and polar bears in Northern Manitoba. The province with the most populous north is Alberta by a large margin so travel there is easier with Airport and major cities. I am from near Edmonton and you can see Aurora in that region occasionally. I live near Vancouver BC now and have only seen a small show of them once in nearly 15 years. I hope you get the chance! 🇨🇦

The lights are beautiful but what gets me is all of the stars and planets in the blackness of the night. If there is other life out there, then they are looking at us in the same way - just a dot in the blackness of space.

I remember reading reports about these solar storms. I had visited Iceland the month before and was following some Iceland IG pages. I saw the photos they were posting and almost cried because I could've seen this in person if we had just gone 2-3 weeks later than we did! We still saw it a few times while we were there, but definitely nothing like this.
