Thanks for the advice! I also realized now that I have a hard time keeping my back straight in certain lifts. Do you think that is due to tightness in the thoracic, or just a form issue?

Your centre of gravity is off coz your bar is infront of your foot (I think) causing you to lean forward and arch back. Move it back over your mid foot. Other than that, keep working hard dude!

Love that you added the bloopers and posted your strengths, weaknesses, and were just generally straight up. I've been a runner off and on for years and just started strength training with the 5x5 as a guide this evening. I've pissed around with bodyweight exercises before, but I always did like 2-3 sets to failure and got lazy after a few weeks. I know I'm only 6 hours in, but I really enjoyed my first experience with free weights and compound movements. I feel muscles I didn't know I had. Thanks for sharing your progress so I have some idea about x work equaling y result. I have a lot to learn, but I spose we all had a day one.

Great gains and power! Bench press is solid AF. Still, you should watch for your deadlift: you're not curving your spine, but you're pulling too much weight with your lower back during your launch and might seriously strain yourself. Deadlifting, though considered primordially a "pull" exercise, it is also a "push" exercise to a certain extent: you push with your legs AND your hips. Good power though!

some good stuff there but your squat has some unusual sequential joint moves - try to keep the core tighter to make the whole thing more co-ordinated. You could also widen your grip in the OHP to get a more vertical forearm position to improve your efficiency and lift more. Also try to keep the back more flat in the row and tighten your shoulders by squeezing the scapula (shoulder blades) together to engage the lats more.

Good work! But I think the form is far from optimal. Even from easier workouts. The bench for example, I reckon you could have easily hit 5Kg-10kg on the bench if the leg drive method was used, aswell as arched back and proper range of bar motion. Then it should be on the +% category.

@Onlinezigeuner
@Onlinezigeuner 7 жыл бұрын
To be honest I spent more time than I should have before I knew how things work. I suffered from fuckarounditis for way too long. www.leangains.com/2011/09/fuckarounditis.html I did some half assed brosplit during 2008-2010 and made almost zero gains in regards to strength and musclesize. I quit because I was very frustrated with my complete lack of progress and results. From 2014 to 2016 I almost exclusively did calisthenics (except squats and deadlifts with bad programming) and made mediocre to average gains. In october 2016 I decided to quit calisthenics for now and do a novice strength-routine, because I don´t think that you can achieve the physique you want purely with your own bodyweight and it is easier to progress with weights. It depends on your strengthlevel because some people train for 5 - 10 years and are still considered beginners. You could use this symmetricstrength.com/. If you are in the intermediate range you would be better off with the madcow template from StrongLifts or Canditos Intermediate program.

Respect the hard work, but what happened with your overhead press? You say you went from 20 kg (45 lbs) to 48.5 kg (107 lbs) after 22 weeks of work. By my math, you should have made it to at least 120 lbs in that time. 12 weeks of pure StrongLifts is 18 OHP workouts. Starting with the bar (45 lbs), 5 lbs a session gets you to 130 lbs at week 12. Personally, I know I stalled around 105 lbs and had to cut the progression, but that still doesn't account for about 14 weeks of training (4 StrongLifts and 10 mad cow ). Just curious.
@Onlinezigeuner
@Onlinezigeuner 7 жыл бұрын
Well you got me right there. I can´t exactly tell but why my OHP is noticable weaker than everything else is a cause of three reasons. 1. I had form issues at the beginning. What I mean by that is that my form was rather inconsistent (tempo, grip width, bar path etc.). 2. The second reason is a cause of the first reason as I stalled pretty early and had to take smaller increments. 3. Some people progress faster/slower than others in certain aspects or all together. If you look up the video from Baber Barbell (the dude that inspired me to do a video myself) he repped like almost 60kg (135lbs) for a set of five on the OHP but struggled to hit 75kg (165lbs) for the same amount on the bench press. Everybody is different.
@obits3
@obits3 7 жыл бұрын
Onlinezigeuner Have you seen the "Press" video on the Art of Manliness channel? Mark Rippetoe developed an overhead press method that is in between the ridged military press (no lean back) and the Olympic press (too much lean back). Personally, I like his technique because you do a slight pivot at the hips instead of moving your neck to get the bar around your face. He also talks about the role of the traps in locking out the press. Also, if you haven't already, I would purchase a set of micro plates on Amazon. They can go as small as two 1/2 pound plates to do 1 pound increases. Wish you well.

@Onlinezigeuner
@Onlinezigeuner 7 жыл бұрын
Akihito007 Through eating in a bigger caloric surplus and not paying too much attention what I am eating, instead of keeping it just at maintenance. You might have a better muscle to fat ratio if you eat "cleaner" and calculate your TDEE, but completely separating both is not possible. This whole idea of building muscle and burning fat at the same time only works to an certain extent or if you are higher in bodyfat.

@Jeff Sol To be honest I haven't made much progress at all in about the last year. I stalled hard in the bench press department due to major programing errors like lack of volume, frequency and simply not eating enough. I am taking a break from lower body training and stopped doing barbell backsquats entirely, because I don't feel like doing them anymore I believe there are alternative exercises like the bulgarian split squat, lunges and glute hamraises which may together not be close to a barbell backsquat, but good enough for my needs. My best lifts where 5x120kg squats, 3x152,5kg deadlift and 3x91kg bench press. I will post more videos soon.

Well anything is better than my thin body but I think it would be better to ask What changes did you see in those 5 months? My body is thin but from what I see in this routine I could get a base level in muscle mass in the legs, chest and back but the arms I see neglected if I only do the basics so I think I would put some accessories because with the barbell row I feel enough work in terms of biceps that is the only thing that worries me because the triceps and shoulders I see are quite well covered with the bench press and the military press.
@Onlinezigeuner
@Onlinezigeuner 7 жыл бұрын
Like I said previously I gained through a slightly bigger caloric surplus about 6kg from what half of it or a bit less is muscle mass so probably 2,5 to 3kg. That´s correct most of your changes in your body will be in the hamstrings, quads, glutes, upperback, pecs and shoulders. Although it depends on genetics in some cases. A beginner program like StrongLifts, Starting Strength or ICF 5x5 is useful to build a solid strength base of any untrained or novice individual. If you are worried about certain weak areas ICF 5x5 would be a good program. It is similar to StrongLifts but throws in some accessories, isolation exercises and has overall more volume.

Thank you very much, my friend, I started with stronglifts since two weeks ago but as I told you there were parts that worried me because they would be weaker than others and as you say it depends on my genetics but who knows what mine is so I just have to train, eat and shut up.
