not really, you can figure out Luomen can't be Maomao's dad in ep 10/11 when we find out he worked at the Rear Palace years before Maomao was born thus making him a eunuch years before Maomao was born

She has internalized her adoptive father as "dad" so it probably doesn't come up often. Maomao probably doesn’t mention it to just anybody because she’d have to explain to people that she owes no explanation.

It is explained that Ah-duo was the CURRENT emperor’s concubine when he was still a prince. Jinshi was switched with the son of the FORMER emperor (who would be the brother of the emperor if he still lived). So he is actually the heir to the throne.

Since not all Eunuch are medically castrated, many are born naturally like that as well. In West, they are usually referred as Hermaphrodite or Intersex (not to be confused with Transgender who are different).

For your info Bel & Mel, every man in the rear palace are Eunuch in that era, because the emperor have few thousands 'wives' in the rear palace, and he doesn't want the wives and the male workers there to have any affairs, so every man have to be castrated. Of course the higher ranking officers don't have to be castrated, but they are prohibited to enter rear palace.

i don't know why but whenever i see this anime, it always reminds me of 2 old popular animes: Yona of the Dawn /Akatsuki no Yona (manga 2009 & anime 2014) & Fushigi Yûgi /Mysterious Game (manga 1991 & anime 1995)... they have similar vibe with chinese storyline

Oficialy Jinshi is son of last Emperor and younger brother of current Emperor. Baby that died was currents Emperor son with Ah Duo. IF there realy was swap then he would be current Emperors son with Ah Duo.

Lishu (the child Concubine) was originally the previous Emperor's Concubine, now she the is the Concubine of the current Emperor. She is hated for it coz they think it is scandals that she was wed to the Father and now the Son after. Ah-Duo was the concubine of the Current Emperor since the days when he was the crown prince. She is one year older than him and was his only Concubine before he took the throne. She stayed by his side until she was excused from her Position after the scandal involving her Lady in waiting trying to poison Concubine Lishu. She was giving a palace to stay in the eastern side of the Country. She also was the mother of 1st born of Current Emperor, who died by the honey poising. Thogh Maomao speculate the babies were switched at birth, And who died is the 2nd prince Born to the previous Emperor and the Empress dowager (The current Emperor's Parents). If that conjecture is true it means the baby who died was the Brother of the current Emperor and his actual biological Son was raised as his Brother. and yes The current Emperor and Ah-Duo had there baby same time as His Mom and Dad had there's.

Dang, the viewers are good for not giving out spoilers. (I hope you won't miss the fact too that most, if not all, high ranking officials are nobles. So maomao is noble by blood and illegitimate children are acknowledged and could be heirs in this time period. Tho being an heir is given to males.)

Not to judge or anything, but if you cant catch up whats happening, you wont get the plot of the anime and feel the climax later on. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I don't think there actually is one but it is an interesting theory. In reality, Suirei is the half-sister to Concubine Loulan...part of the clan that I suspect is behind all the "accidents" going on. That's just my theory though and it still hasn't been confirmed by the anime.
