This instructional video shows builders constructing a new staircase inside a home. The builders discuss the technicalities of designing staircase dimensions to meet building code requirements. They lay out the design using a stringer and marker sticks to plan tread height and placement. Various tools like circular saws, drills and handsaws are used to cut and shape the wood pieces. As each step is constructed, the builders emphasize proper technique like adding adhesive and angling screw placement. Once fully assembled, the new staircase is tested for levelness and stability. Viewers learn carpentry skills for building sturdy interior stairs using measurements and considerations for strength and safety.

Eric, we all love you and appreciate all you say and do. And there was Jaime “biting his tongue” waiting for a time to say something, so you have to give your younger brother credit (and let him say more, but maybe have a timer so once he starts he has 90 seconds or something like that). Jaime really does have experience and skills beyond his age and it’s great to hear him opine a bit now and then. 😁

I meant to put this comment on the last video, and I forgot lol. I'm from Thailand where most houses are brick houses, and hardwood is a kind of luxury material. I've been watching house building from the US and Japan and I'm facinated by the fact that they build wooden houses. I've been wondering about the termite problems that you would see in wooden house, and your last video explain it. Thank you. There used to be more wooden houses, but after some illegal wood harvesting problem long time ago, woods become too expensive to be used to build a house. My own house is pretty old (30+ years, probably 40), and it has a staircase built with concrete (probably bricks too, I don't know exactly). Some of the modern houses in the country has wooden staircases for some reason, and some of them got termites eating up the staircases problem
@herrba
@herrba 2 ай бұрын
In the US the wood is supposed to be treated for termites and no we don’t use hard wood for construction we use fast growing soft wood like Pine/ cedar (a lot of nice looking stuff is just that “nice looking”)

PROTIP: When finding Total Rise of a staircase, set a laser at the top of the second floor and measure up to the laser line from the first floor where the heel is going to land! Account for flooring and height of the laser to make an accurate measurement but otherwise you'll get it bang on every time.

If you know you need to take 1” off… draw a line at 1” down on the bottom step. Draw a line vertically down from the riser to give you a cross point. Chalk a line from that point to the top tread/riser. Then each riser draw a line straight down and intersect the chalk line. This will give you a progressive measurement down the stairs.

I feel the pain with these old stairs. I just added bamboo finished treads to my stairs going to the second story. The original treads were MDF supported by two 1x12 ? Stringers. They were typical housing development git- r -dones. I had all sorts of noise. I should have started over but adding more lumber, from underneath, glue and screws plus the finished treads, they are solid. A burglars dream.

The biggest problem of remodeling stairs in older homes,they didn't follow code...in height nor length and rise. Limited length of run is usually the largest issue. There is a post currently on reddit . Apparently in some regions they raise the front entrance to meet flood plane.😂 Inside the front main door is a 1 step platform, only then do you step down into the entire main floor. Poor pre planning offers many gifts to the idiot gods of mayhem in building. Along with corners in kitchens ,low head room on stairs. The ability to accept failure, immediately change or rip out what is wrong...is a sign of craftsmanship. Well done fellows!

I'll be honest, when you first said you made a story pole, my first thought was how do they know the concrete is level on each end of the stair case? One thing I have learned is concrete is NEVER flat or level. Since you were building a landing, it would have definitely been best to snap a level line from the landing to the landing above and use that as reference for all measurements. IMHO You all have definitely built more stairs than I ever will.

PEX: Should have done that earlier s you would not have had to notch studs. At 19:06 mins: Strongly suggest NOT putting screws in your mouth!! The chemicals used in mfg might be VERY toxic. Suggestion: Use a 3/4"- 1" Forstner bit ( or equal) in the "inner section" of the riser and run on the stringers. This gives leaves a nice radius and will reduce splitting.

Why would you measure the height of your stairs at the top step? You need to level off your top step the length of your stringer. Then measure your height. It takes out the variable of uneven floors.
