Realistic. Real practical video. Great job. Subbed

hey, I exactly know how you feel. I feel these Fireflys are far more difficult to handle then a usual Firesteel. I carry Jute-String soaked in wax to start a fire 🔥

Make sure to have some easy burning material in the bottom of the firebox before you put your burning tinder in your firebox.

Haha, good test, these FireAnts work great every time you just need more practice starting fires. Cheers.

I see that some people scrape some firesteel shavings in the tinder to help the ignition. Maybe this helps.

Great video! keep up the good work! and a quick note on making fire: after igniting the tinder, transfer it to the tinder nest and then into the oven, not the other way around. That way you keep the fire lit, without any risk of losing it! 😉

Thanks for the nice comment and the hint. I will try it this way! I think it's much easier to light a fire with the firesteel when making an open fire and I always had some issues when using a firesteel in combination with the oven. This might be the solution, thanks.

That's why I prefer to have the Firefly (replaces the toothpick) instead of the FireAnt. It's longer and more sturdy and the corkscrew now has space for a double load of tinder.

Pine bark with Resin makes a great fire starter in the woods. Shockingly, so does Holy Bark. 👍👍& 10⭐ Keep on camping.🤠

Great video - you manage to make a fire, your problem is in maintaining it - the first flame is the basis!

Thank you for the nice comment. Yes, sometimes it works better and sometimes it takes me few tries. I noticed that whenever a camera is recording, I feel a little bit more in a hurry and that's usually not helpful. But after a few tries more I still get there (unless the firesteel breaks...)

I see others hold the steel in the tinder and push the back of the saw blade down the steel toward the tinder ? You tried both ways as comparison ? New video maybe to compare ? But I love your persistence 👍

congratulations on your wonderful videos. Your personal considerations in the 'failures' (which you don't hide) make it very human. Your quest for minimalism and becoming one with nature is inspiring. First walk barefoot through the mountains (It's a pity you don't do this so often anymore); now looking for the easiest way to start a fire with almost nothing. Thinking of Wim Hof (iceman) and with your barefoot experience, I wonder whether you also take up the 'battle' against the cold by going into the mountains as minimalist as possible protected by clothes. In any case, your adventures encourage me to go out into nature with as few extra resources as possible. Thank you for this.

Thanks for the nice comment! I had to put the barefoot walking and the barefoot shoes aside for a while due to an injury on the big toe, which didn't want to heal (happened at home when doing some exercises barefoot). Now a year later it gets better and I hope to be able to do long hikes with my barefoot shoes again soon. But actually you're right, I should do some barefoot hiking again too. I haven't done that for a while and it was a very special feeling to walk up a mountain without shoes. Maybe after the winter months I will do some barefoot day hikes again. I already have some experience with the Wim Hof Method but not so far away from the warm buildings. I think, I would have to practice the method a bit more consistently to build up the confidence to do a hike in the cold mountains with minimal protection from the cold. And also, combined with the filming it could be quite difficult to maintain the right mindset to do so. But I have already done some hiking in the snow with shorts. That was funny.

Was your lighter on your keys? In your pocket the button can get pressed and your clothes will get saturated with the fuel. When it ignites you'll go up in flames.

It's your own fault. Mine makes plenty of sparks when I do the striking at the right angle and pressure and when I use the tinder coils that come with the fire ant set I can always start a fire with 1 strike. So it's a great set when used right.

😂😂😂 the tinder is not the problem it’s your ability to start a fire and get rid of that stupid fire box light is on the ground

I was thinking the same thing lol. He moved the source too early and extinguished the fire three times. He would just drop it in that fire box. Get the fire going first.

I have found the back of the wood saw is terrible for striking your ferro rods. I have had much better luck (If you SAK has it) use the back of your metalsaw/file (Swiss Champ type of file). Also, get rid of the fire ant (I literally dont know why people try to rely on that little guy) instead go for the Fire Fly. Made by same company that makes the Firefly (which is listed of the SAK website so 3rd party/aftermarket backed by the original creators) More surface area so more sparks as you drag it across. The little one here sounds good but its literally so small you cant pull as many sparks as you need. The way its made is terrible as you end up putting pressure on the handle and tip downward but then force up on the centre which yeah, no wonder it broke also its such a tiny thing.
