Some of those houses built extremely close together could be in breach of building regulations.

no its not actually, 0-200 off the boundary is allowed, and is stated in the design guidelines, unfortunately u have no choice as the land is subdivided that way. also those walls are all fire rated too

Thanks for making these videos, it's very helpful for people to understand the suburbs better!

This has always been the case. I remember when people started moving to areas like Nunawading, Wantirna, Croydon, Ringwood, Donvale, Springvale, Noble Park, Carrum Downs, etc in the 70s, people used to say "how can you move to those areas so far away! Same when people started moving to Werribee, Hoppers Crossing, St Albans, Taylors Lakes, Epping, Thomastown and Lalor. Look at those suburbs now! I remember when a friend bought a house in Hampton Park in the 80s, we joked that they gave him a dog and a shotgun with the house. Now it's nowhere near the outer suburban edge.

i work in the indusrty and i hat e seeing blocks of land as thin as 4.5 m being sold to build on. i wish there was new regs to stop such tiny blocks being made, i feel for people who live there its like a dungon :( not only that its nearly impossible to try n live in a suburb instead of an estate.

shameful and it’s the Victoria Government that has enabled this mess through changing laws to allow smaller blocks and roads. No infrastructure for residents, rubbish everywhere, it’s just awful.

For infrastructure, there are some nice playgrounds that attract family buyers, but it's frustrating to see a beautiful playground surrounded by construction rubbish. My son's balance bike even got a flat tire from some sharp waste on the footpath while walking to the playground. It's dangerous too.

I can't muster any compassion for those people: they wanted to have huge houses, they didn't mind to be car dependant, they laughed at me for choosing to live in an apartment in the inner city because their choice was a smarter investment... And now I, living in a small place but in a well serviced area have to accommodate their cars when they come to my area for work or entertainment, I have to subsidise their services, worry about their health, safety and CO2 emissions... And all of that for houses that are pretty much like apartments anyway without all the benefits of living in a well designed apartment block. We could be building 4 bedroom apartments, overlooking greenery within a walking distance to public transport but no, everybody has to have a "house"...

@frankryan2505 Ай бұрын
'We could be building 4 bedroom apartments,' But they arent are they? Here you are saying you dont have compassion, and at the same time saying they dont provide suitable apartments for families. are you stupid,ignorant or just trying to get a rise? I'll tell you why you can afford to live in a small affordable apartment..its called 'economies of scale' You can get away with paying half a mil because the developer can cram 150 shitbox apartments onto that block, as soon as he scales up to 3/4 bedrooms he is looking at 40 residences in the same area.. And to recoup that same profit (as a smaller unit would earn) he is going to want close to 2 million dollars per sale. So you have a hugely expensive 'family apartment' , with massive body corporate fees (less units sharing the load) and the uncertainty of living in a multi story building at a time when building standards are absolutely rock bottom. I loved my city living as a young single man,i also loved the fact that as a 'house owner' my young daughter could wonder outside and kick a ball,enjoy the sun and dig in the dirt at absolutley any time of the day.

How about using your real voice? I assumed the voice was AI and was quickly about to discount this as faceless AI generated crap, but you actually had good points and it was a good video! Also, with the American accent on a video about Melbourne, I thought it might actually be Melbourne, Florida.

Hi Brendan, Thank you for your kind words. I got a lot of negative comments about using an AI voice. I tried recording my own voice, but I felt terrible about my accent (I didn't grow up in Australia). I'm very shy and introverted, so I kept re-recording the same things over and over, wanting to make it better, but I was never quite happy with it. It ended up being too time-consuming to use my own voice. However, after seeing your comment, I feel encouraged to try using my own voice in my upcoming videos.

@@MelbWestExplorer great vid and i agree 100% use your voice. Having an accent would suit the video given that a high proportion of the population in these estates are migrants too. Just prepare yourself to ignore some racist a@$#holes in the comments.
