I am hitting em better with your tips but why am I still only hitting my 7 iron 155 and driver 230?
@SagutoGolf4 жыл бұрын
August Meissner - First of all, I don't see a problem with a 155-yard 7-iron! Increased distance will come - subject to an individual's physical limitations, of course - as you grow more and more comfortable with the swing, thereby releasing any tension that may exist from having various thoughts about new motions that may still feel different to you. Please allow me to suggest something to help you get your game where you want it to be.... If you haven't already done so and would like to get on the fast track towards really owning this swing, then please consider enrolling in the SagutoGolf online school. For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only learning platform that breaks down and greatly simplifies the entire learning process through succinct, step-by-step videos, and I'm constantly adding new content. Best golf instruction on KZbin. For years I’ve been worrying about club face. Wrist angles. Fiat left wrist plus a thousand and one others things . But once you concentrate on chest down, they all fall into place. If you don’t keep your chest down and maintain your relationship to the ground, those one thousand and one things can’t happen anyway. You’re always be fighting your golf swing. Fantastic Tom. Thank you.

Tom, I'm a 12.7 handicapper. Been playing for 25 years. Yesterday I played a 72.0/132 course and had one of my worst rounds in recent history...+24 with only 1 GIR. This morning while just relaxing before my round, KZbin recommended this video from you to me (thank you KZbin algorithm and thank YOU Tom). This one key swing thought of "chest plate" pointed at the ball was pretty much exactly what I needed to turn things around for me. So I shot the best round I ever shot in my life today...+2 at a 70.3/122 course with 13 GIRs. Did I get some lucky bounces? Yes. Did I putt well today? Yes. Are the courses different? Yes. But even taking the standard variances (luck factor and course conditions) into account, the GIRs tell the story regarding my ball-striking today. Thank you for sharing this amazing tip for a mid-handicapper like myself. Ever in Vegas, hit me up. Let me buy you a drink and a steak!

I love this! As a sports and soft tissue therapist I talk to clients about envisioning that spot you've pointed out on your chest as an 'eye'. Examples, when doing a weighted squat in front of a mirror the eye needs to look at itself the entire time, when making an elite throw the eye should look at the target at release to ensure accuracy, etc. You are the first professional in any sport that I have heard make any reference to this same area. I will be incorporating this into my golf game and using it to help others with their own game technique. Well earned like and sub Mr. Saguto! :)

Hey Tom, just watched this yesterday and also your humourous video breaking down the 5 things you SHOULD NOT be doing in the swing or in lessons. Hit the Golf course yesterday only thinking of chest down, chest down, chest down, I'm buzzing man. I've never consistently striped every iron flush out the middle as much as yesterday. Hit my best round in around 5 years, I'm a 15hc theses days but in younger years got to a low of 9.2. Shot a 79 and haven't felt that in control of my game in 25 years of playing. Absolutely flushed my irons straight and long and hit quite a few 290 bombs out there. I'm so impressed man, subbed. I'm now off to make a cuppa tea with my chest down, have breakfast with my chest down and continue to everything with my chest down today to see if the results are as incredible :)

As a new student of Tom's I'd be lying if I didn't say I've been struggling lately with the swing changes. When I implement Tom's concepts on the range I hit the ball fairly well. It's been a challenge to forget 32 years of swing habits on the course. When any doubt creeps in my body desperately wants to revert to lift and chop. When Tom says it's going to feel weird he's not kidding. I feel like I'm swinging around my ankles and standing on my left leg only. So after firing a 49 on the front 9 Sunday I decided to really focus on the concepts and trust the weirdness. I shot a 40 on the back and I've broken through the barrier. I can feel when my practice swing is perfect and when it's reverting. I can't say thank you enough Tom.

Mike Stock - That's fabulous, and I truly appreciate you sharing your success and experiences! Yours is the perfect testimonial for how we should embrace the swing change process while understanding that it is exactly that - a process. Thanks again, and keep up the great work! Tom

Hi Tom, Should the centre of the chest and hips be just in front of the ball at address ? That way the low point of the downswing will be just in front of the ball , when keeping stacked throughout the swing . Left shoulder down is vital . I notice you tilt your head towards the target when starting the backswing. Is that part of the stack and tilt method ? Thanks again for your informative videos . Stack and tilt is awesome .
@SagutoGolf4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind words about my videos, Tommy!! In discussing ball position, and assuming the golfer has a good setup with the shoulders, hips and knees properly "stacked", I find it best to do so in terms of where it is relative to the front foot. The prescribed neutral mid-iron position for Stack & Tilt is two balls inside the inner part of the front heel; back a little for shorter clubs, and a little more forward for long irons and woods. As one gets more advanced additional positions can be deployed for various shot shapes. As for my head.... *NO* - it is most definitely *NOT* a prescribed S&T move!! It is a crappy residual nuance of mine that I'm slowly working on ridding myself of! DO *NOT* COPY THAT HEAD MOVEMENT LOL!! Cheers! Tom

I noticed for myself that my feeling for my upper left arm through impact and during the follow through is not strong for keeping it close to my right side. Could you discuss the necessity for upper arms need to stay against the sides throughout the swing. Of course also during the follow through. We don’t want any sign of weakness to show throughout the swing. Thanks your an inspiration

Hi Frank, I appreciate your kind words regarding my instruction! Here's a good lesson video that speaks a bit to what you are referring to regarding my wrists not rolling through impact: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJaVnIRqacatgJY. As for maintaining your upper arm connections, a simple drill for this is to stick a tee under each armpit and hit balls while trying to keep the tees from falling out during the entirety of the swing motions. You'll also find some connectivity tips and lessons in my Hogan series of videos which you'll find in this playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PLV62KxT7Mp7IyNDRp0hZK1F1OScdXx-u1 Beyond that it is important to understand that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, and common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a sequential learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards learning and owning this swing. For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only system for the full swing, the short game, and much more. The school's intuitive course layout greatly simplifies the entire process through succinct, step-by-step videos, and I'm constantly adding new content. This will really put you on the fast track towards learning everything in a well-organized, self-guided fashion. It's amazing ... I loved when I came across this video .. this exact technique evolved in my mind over last few months !! It works wonders ... Though for me , it applies slightly differently ..for longer irons , I assume a point to the left of the centre of the chest ! You have to visualise that there is a rope tied between the point and the ball ... However it works only for irons... Never the driver :)

Another great video, I noticed at time 10:20 and higher that just prior to your take away you slightly moved your weight forward. On the early swings from face on camera it didn't appear that you preloaded left. I thought when you made that simple adjustment your ball striking, contact and ball flight improved. I liked your simple small adjustment!!! Amazing!!!
@SagutoGolf4 жыл бұрын
Very observant, Randy! Sometimes I get so caught up in the actual tip for the video lesson that I'll lose sight of some other key I may have recently been toying with. Though my setup weight was still forward in the earlier swings, lately I've been working on establishing that by slightly nudging my front hip towards the target. I like how this presets a few key things for me. Truth be told, I stumbled on this when re-reading the setup section of the Stack and Tilt book in which Mike Bennett and Andy Plummer state that "your hip center should be slightly forward of your stance center, about an inch". I then re-confirmed this by paying close attention to how Mike Bennett set himself up in a video where he was absolutely striping shot after shot. Nice catch, and thanks for your kind words!! Tom

@@SagutoGolf I really enjoy and like your swing and of course videos. We spoke over a month ago about my yardage gains with my irons. Played the last 2 weeke on the panhandle in FL. Went 75 & 76 . Bingo! ... "Chest Down" = center of clubface. Almost every instructor says you have to hit the center of the clubface for pure strike and maximum distance, but I haven't found one that says HOW to get center contact every time. Is it just hand-eye coordination? How do you develop that? 🤔 ... "Chest Down!" I've been reminding myself to, "Stay Down" (because my big miss is "early extension") I'm changing it now to "Chest Down!" Thanks, Tom 🙏🏻

Many more factors must be playing there than just "chest down", dear Tom. I'm a total beginner, I can't wait to try this on this very weekend. What about the correct distance to the ball? Right elbow glued to the torso, etc, etc. By the way, "experts" say don't focus on the ball, just a little bit in front of the ball, so the ball becomes "incidental" on your swing. It's that accurate?

"Chest Down!" I've GOT to remember this. My big miss is coming out of my posture (extending early). 30% of my approach shots are SHORT (per Arccos) primarily because I come out of it. Tom - i've been trying to have a relationship with the ball and keeping the chest down etc but having a really hard time doing this unless I choke down on my club. I'm short (5'2") and am wondering whether this is making me change my swing to be more upright. Before I go and invest in getting a club fit, I wanted to check with you to see if I'm making excuses for myself and blaming the equipment. Love your tips!
@SagutoGolf4 жыл бұрын
Moon Choe - I'm glad to know that you are enjoying the video lessons! Regarding having your clubs fitted, it is important because you do want your clubs to fit your swing and not vice versa. Here's a checkpoint: When establishing a proper relationship with the ball - and by that I mean just making sure that your chest points downward to some extent at address and you maintain that orientation as you take your backswing (in other words, you don't have to be so bent over that you've got to choke down on your club) - is the toe of your club up off the ground? If so then it may behoove you to get fitted. Aside from that, here are my suggestions: 1) If you'd really like to get on the fast track towards owning this swing through your entire bag, please consider the SagutoGolf online school. For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only learning system for the full swing (including the finer point, feels, posture, and setup) and much more. Still one of the greatest golf tips of all time. Helps insure: * a proper and continuous tilt * automates covering the ball * helps eliminate swaying. * helps to prevent “spinning out” with the shoulders, hips & CHEST on the backswing and the follow through. * Helps prevent an over the top swing bc it helps keep the swing on a consistent plane. * helps eliminate over swinging. Keep your Chest down & your right arm off the slot machine handle and you’ll have a damn fine golf swing. -Monty H.

A tip for you and others, I placed a strip of material on my net at the target line and this tells me if I'm starting Left or Right or straight on that line. I look forward to signing up for your class asap.

I started watching Tom 3 months ago. My game was a mess. No 2 swi gs the same. I averaged 110 - 120 per game. I nearly gave up, I was embarrassed. Now I come in with 91,92,93. That's a 20-30 shot difference in 3 months. I'm back in love with the game. Is Tom the best I instructor out there? I don't know, I don't care. He just resonates with me. No BS. It's clear, it's just obvious. Thank you

Wow, Tony - that is some tremendous improvement! You've done a fantastic job putting these lessons to work for you, and I am thrilled that you are experiencing true enjoyment of the game again!! Thanks so much for sharing!! Tom

The stain on your iron face is an excellent unintended tool. It comes from the black tar like stuff that they treat the nets with. Your golf balls get stained by the stuff and leave a wonderful mark on your iron face telling us how well our impact position is. Another great indicator is from your Tee mat. It leaves a plastic film on the bottom of your club/iron. If the pattern of the plastic film is perpendicular to the club face it indicates a perfect point of impact reminder. If it is at an oblique angle relative to the club face then you need some adjustment.

Tom, My iron shots using your method are usually not terrible, and on video my setup & swing looks a lot like you. But I am almost always not getting a divot, or the divot starts 1" on the wrong side of the ball. What video do you have that can help me fix this problem? Charlie
@SagutoGolf2 жыл бұрын
Hi Charlie, You need to ensure that your weight is continuously moving forward throughout the swing. There are several channel lessons that address this topic. Here are a couple of them: - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJ7Heayia7R1f9U - kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnOXeqeIaMyofbc By the way, there's an entire section of my online school dedicated to resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues. Have you looked into it? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. So many folks across the globe are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result. Here's a link if you would like to know more about the school - saguto.golf - and here's a link to my free mini-course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” if you’re interested in checking it out: go.saguto.golf/ Tom

You're the Bob Ross of golf instructors. Love watching your videos!
@SagutoGolf4 жыл бұрын
LOL, Gabriel! “We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents.” That's one of my favorites from Bob Ross! Also: “Talent is a pursued interest." If we put in the necessary time working on the right things in our golf game, "talent" will manifest itself in the form of more consistency and, ultimately, lower scores. Then there's this Rossism: “There's nothing wrong with having a tree as a friend.” I must say that this statement does not fit in very well with golf... I appreciate your kind words, and thanks for the chuckle! Tom

Hey Tom, I’d be interested in setting up a similar practice area as yours. Do you have parts list for the PVC pieces you made frame from and where you got the net.

Hey Kurt, check this out, this is my setup but the net is different. I used a fishing net for the backstop - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6GUYqSpaaplipI

Thanks Tom for the aware of chest top. However, the middle of chest at ball didn't work for me cause I'm pretty short and either my club would need to be shortened or I wouldn't be able to have Gorilla clue arms. So instead I used the Arnold Palmer method of shoulder pointing at ball. Then I discovered, as soon as I was aware my shoulder was on ball, I would shift my attention to my chest on the rest of backswing and follow through. Real good results if I remembered to keep my left arm straight.

Tom Blue Raven - You just hit the nail on the head with regard to how each golfer must personally go about incorporating general instruction in order for it to be effective! We are all different shapes, sizes, etc., and as such there is definitely some work that needs to be done at the individual level so we can figure it out for ourselves and ultimately own it. Well done, and thanks for sharing!!! Tom

love this tip, but had a follow up question. what advice do you have for when contact is ok, but a real divot is never taken??
@SagutoGolf2 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Terry! Consider that the first true fundamental for great ball striking is the ability to hit the ground in the same spot every time. If we're not doing that then we can't expect consistently crispy compression. Work on establishing *_and preserving_* your relationship with the ball as discussed here and in many other episodes, including this recent selection: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo And by the way, here's a link to my FREE mini-course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” in case you’re interested in learning some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/ Cheers! @@SagutoGolf thanks for the quick reply; i also tried the chest down technique with the FW's and got some really nice compression there as well. 👍🏻

When I do this drill I feel as if I’m staying closer to the ball instead of raising up and having a thin shot, is that the feeling I should have because it works so good?
@SagutoGolf3 жыл бұрын
YES Brian - that "closeness" you feel is your relationship to the ball. Maintain that and you two will get along quite nicely, as your results prove! Well done! Tom

Hey Tom, For years I would hit the ball fat or top it because I naturally sway off the ball. Now I try my best to keep my weight left. So with Saguto Golf swing I am getting good contact but I still have the "hitting fat" fears so I don't take divots. I am close to breaking 100 this season and have broken 100 a couple times (career). Can I get my score down without taking divots? I have been afraid so long I don't know if I can train myself to take them.
@SagutoGolf4 жыл бұрын
David - It sounds like you're battling a chronic case of LayTheSodOverIt-phobia! In order to get that "Crispier than KFC" contact that I routinely speak of you need to compress the ball, and really the only way to accomplish that with an iron shot is to take that divot after the ball (remembering, of course, what Moe Norman used to say: "bacon strips, not pork chops"). Please refer to my reply to your other comment. I think the online school is your best option, perhaps supplemented by you grabbing a copy of the Stack & Tilt book by Mike Bennett and Andy Plummer. Thanks! Tom

Chest down and shallow out. Those are the key points I’m working on right now. Too bad I can’t get out to the golf course right now on account of a dental procedure I had a few days ago. Oral surgeon said to keep from breathing in cold air. Anyhoo I do intend to get back out there by the end of the week and no more standing up or stepping back from the golf ball.

Tom, my issue at the moment is I have a chicken wing on the left arm (lead arm). Maybe my hips aren’t fast enough for my arms. Do you have a drill for this?
@SagutoGolf4 жыл бұрын
Jr Moa - I can suggest a couple of videos on this channel for starters: This one on a downswing drill (kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zp28pn2ai5aDmNE) and this one on Ben Hogan's connected arms (kzbin.info/www/bejne/opfGnHmZe5yAmNE). However, my best recommendation if you'd like to get on the fast track towards owning this swing is that you consider joining the SagutoGolf online school. For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only learning system for the entire swing and much more. This really simplifies the process through succinct, step-by-step videos, and I'm constantly adding new content. I think I get it Tom but am having trouble , here in theUk btw, with hitting it fat when I make the big effort to turn my shoulder down towards the ball
@SagutoGolf4 жыл бұрын
Hi Barry, Oftentimes fat shots are a result of not having enough weight forward at impact, thereby putting the low point of the swing behind the ball. Please have a look at this video and work through the drill included in it as this may lead you towards crispier than KFC contact!: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4DbqH-Ci691gqc Cheers! Tom

Great game changing tips!!! Thanks. Agreed! Only 1/Millions chances by the pros like Koepka, Mcllroy, Garcia and ctc. to have a ball in a spectator's pant pocket (Mcllroy), knocked a spectator down by a shank ball from driver (Koepka), knocked a lady's diamond ring off her finger(Garcia). Yeah...those pros are robot-like consistent so we rarely see those mishits. Even mishits still found their marks.

So basically maintain address spine angle until after impact. Right?
@SagutoGolf4 жыл бұрын
Well....that might be what it looks like.... Grab a copy of The Stack and Tilt Swing book by Mike Bennett and Andy Plummer if you'd like to better understand the various positions of the spine (extension, tilt, flexion) throughout the swing that enable us to maintain our center and turn in a circle. The book will also serve you well as an excellent and detailed reference guide for what you learn here and in my online school. Cheers! Tom
