Kudos to Mal! The way she pays attention to every guest's narrative and sees things from their perspective is what makes this podcast so genuinely empathetic and relatable 💙

Honestly, this is like having someone give an expert opinion on how to quit smoking cigarettes when they only stopped 1 month ago. In addict time, she is still SO SO NEW, and you can tell by the way she talks.

Jenna you are such a gorgeous light. This episode was so well done. Talking about relapse as just a part of the disease is something that is not talked about a lot. I love the connection you have with your sisters and you close friends. It was so nice to hear about the isolating side of addiction and other things its not being talked about enough. Mal did a wonderful job as always preparing for this interview. ❤ this one many relatable topics.

Adderall use is such an epidemic in this country :( it gave me a similar experience unfortunately adding the other drugs too.. jenna you are not alone in that.. it gave me hallucinations for a while. Quitting was ultimately the best decision and i thought i'd never feel better like it used to be without the pills and everything that goes with it..., but things ARE good again.. A good dopamine detox is necessary i think. and Self evaluation is crucial

Great episode. I wonder how much the disability (having ADD) can sometimes play in terms of getting and keeping one hooked on an addiction, as well as the self worth that one can have. Speaking as someone who has had to life with the condition (ADD) themselves for 40 something years.
@mariannekaminski87722 ай бұрын
It's upsetting. Having someone speak this publicly who doesn't even have enough clean time to be a speaker at an NA or AA meeting... ya'll really dropped the ball in this area. That being said I LOVE to the polls and really appreciate what you're doing!

I was addicted to marijuana from ages 15-23. I used it to self medicate anxiety and ADHD but it made it worse and sometimes caused paranoid delusions and SI. I had to go to AA to quit. There's also Marijuana Anonymous on Zoom. It's been two years but I only just recently started getting back into the queer community and dating. Unfortunately drug use is very normalized among lesbians and queer people.

also for a reference point, an addict has to have ONE FULL YEAR of clean time under their belt in order to be a speaker at a meeting and tell their story. ( most meetings have periodical meetings where instead of sharing in a circle, there will be a speaker who is having an anniversary [ 1 year sober, 5 years sober, etc ] and tell their story ) She said she relapsed in October of last year. She maybe has just enough clean time to be a speaker at a meeting, and even then the ppl who have 1 year sober, are not listened to the way people who have multiple years sober are. Also she probably wasn't even 1 year sober at the time of recording I would assume. And some addicts would say she has zero sober time because she is still drinking. I wish more research into 12 step programs would have been done before picking this guest. If you had consulted a recovering Addict in the program with lots of clean time.. they would not have chosen her. Also this part is a bit mean, but ive met a few girls like her in meetings, and they are not the ones I surround myself with..

Mal, as someone who grew up in Alateen, and currently attends NA, I think she was a bit of a risky choice. Having someone with at least 5 years sobriety under their belt would have been a safer option. Some ppl will hear this story and tell themselves " I can drink casually too" when they cannot. She doesn't even have 2 years clean. This was a very risky option and I worry for fellow addicts listening because we use any excuse/ justification we can. Some ppl will hear this and keep trying to limit/ control their drug & alcohol use ( we tell ourselves I'll only do it on weekends, or only with friends ) and some of us just have to stop altogether. This person has not come far enough in their journey to be speaking this publicly. This was a bad choice of guest to represent recovering addicts. I don't blame you though because if you dont know the world you don't know what red flags to look out for.
