You speak to my tragically optimistic soul. Thank you. Every time someone tells me I’m an idealist and live in a fantasy world, I remind them that if it weren’t for people like me, humans would cease to exist. We make the world go ‘round-the often invisible force that keeps earth spinning on its axis.

One of my design professors in college assigned us to create a our version of the Pioneer Plaque. There where so few rules that i became submerged by the scope and never finished it because i couldn't settle on an idea early. The concept of translating the depth of humanity into a cohesive visual message is equally as exciting as it is overwhelming. This video captures that beautifully. This was a phenomenal video Cam. You are the benchmark for the kind of creator I want to be one day.

Quick thing, and I’m about to nerd out as a graphic designer (graphic design student) Holy smokes your use of typography is incredible. At 20:54, when you used a single font in different sizes to say, in time with what you’re verbally saying, that cave paintings are to us what we are potentially saying to alien species, not only was it a fantastic use of typographical hierarchy, it was done using a single weight of a single font. The font choice was perfect. Using a typewriter-esque font to call back to the time we, in the modern era, consider “old” or antique was a brilliant use of that style of fonts. Fucking kudos, you brilliant man.

This was so freaking interesting, I'll be telling the story about The Gold Voyage Record to my friends all day tomorrow at school lol. And the last part got me emotional, it's so beautiful what humanity can be, and the fact that we have art. Do aliens have art? How crazy it would be if they don't and suddenly they hear Mozart playing from "outter space"? What a good day to be an alien. There should be like a website to upload your own pieces of art that someday get sent to our fellow galactic neighbors.

So about an hour ago when your "cults" video from two months ago came up on my 'Tube TV app, I almost didn't click it. But I did. Got kinda engrossed and so checked this one. my favorite trope about humans in space is "Humans are space orcs." Basically, in the age of space relations, what if humans are the reckless indestructable battle ready species, or at least that is their reputation among the aliens. It's kinda popular over on tumblr, and there is at least one collection of short stories with this premise out there.

Honestly, I could see it. As good as our planet is at sustaining life, it's also very hostile towards it, specifically the chaotic weather and climate. The very concept of seasons may be mortifying to beings on another planet. "You're telling me your planet goes through periods where one side is brutally hot and the other is brutally cold every year? And those differences in temperatures cause ferocious storms that flood and tear apart the homes your people live in?"

The ending message is honestly where my mind wanders a lot. I'm an archeologist, and with impending climate doom, there's just this constantly thrumming drone in the back of my mind what happens when we don't solve climate change. We're on track to not only kill ourselves off but we're also causing the previously mainly known as K6 extinction event. We might so thoroughly destroy life on this planet that basic cellular life will have to fight to stay alive and eventually re-evolve into the kinds of complex organisms we take for granted every day. And because I'm a cross trained paleontology monitor, I work intimately with fossils as they come out of the ground. I see how poor and sporadic preservation usually is. Those specimens we DO have usually represent millions of years of geological time. Our family of species, as complex society dwellers living and altering the world around us, has only been able to leave behind archaeological records of ourselves for AT BEST 400,000 years (this is typed the same week that news went public about the wooden platform structure found in Africa dating to between 300,000 and 400,000 years old). We aren't even a blip. We are an infinitesimal fraction of a millisecond, and the only thing we stand to leave the next intelligent life form on this planet in 10 million years is a thin layer of plasticized rocks. We'll be as confusing a global layer to them as the ash layer that was left in global geology after the meteor that killed the dinos. I worry that we only have like 500 years left as a complex society based species. And that is terrifying. Some of the first artifacts I got to work with while I was still a student were 10,000 plus years old. That we might cause such devastation so soon after leaving the stone age is more than just depressing. It's existentialism at its sharpest. I've been trying to write a scifi that is my hope to scare, move, incite, whatever, people into real action on climate change because I think many people just cannot imagine that we will lose against climate change. They need to see someone else's scientifically based imagined outcome to get a sense of the gravity of our extinction. I just hope I can actually finish the damn thing, I've been working on it since 2018 and writers block is a bitch. 😅
