ADVICE FOR CREATIVES: 7 Life Lessons I've Learned from 2019 so far

This video is for creative people, freelancers, or anyone trying something a bit different.
7 stories (featuring Tim Ferriss and Kerser).
But yeah - figured I'd rather have this stuff out of my head, rather than in it - so let me know if this helps. Forgive me if it comes off too "self helpy"
Maybe I'm making a bit of an assumption that if you watch my stuff you're a creative type, but I feel it's somewhat safe to assume :)
Much love xoxo
HAVE A GREAT DAY

The advice "do it, while you're still healthy" is so important! My whole life I was drawing. I couldn't even imagine a life without drawing. And than came the day, the nerves in my wrist were so heavily destroit, I coulnd't even hold a pencil for a few seconds. ONE WHOLE year I wasn't able to draw a single line. And it wasn't sure, if I could do it again. My world broke. I didn't have any sense in the life. I nearly commited suicide, because I didn't want to life without drawing and painting. And than the wonder began to start: my nerves recovered. Slowly, sooooo slowly. But now, since a few weeks ago, I can draw again. Not long, only a few minutes per day. But it is increasing! And even with a few minutes per day I can do artworks.

That is wonderful! And very inspirational, thank you for posting this. I'm sorry it took you so low as to consider your life's worth, that must've been dark and scary. But you rose up. That is huge. Thank you for your honesty, and for your perseverance.

you have that problem with only one of your hands. Did you try using the other one? You should be able to use it quite well with practice. At least if such a thing happened to me i would be going had to train my brain to use my non-dominant hand instead. as far as i know there is no reason you cannot become just as accurate with the other hand.

@@h0ph1p13 Idk about what happened to Thams but yeah, if it was possible that would have been my advice as well. I myself try drawing with my non-dominant hand and even my feet lol and the results are definitely not the same as with my dominant hand and that's the interesting thing about it. I'd recommend it to anyone that wants to exercise their brain a bit, it's fun, it's like when you're learning to write as a kid

1. Positive reinforcement 2. Hell yes or no rule 3. Get off Instagram 1 What excited me today? 2 What drained me of energy? 3 What did I learn? For 30 days 4. If something is important, do it while you’re still healthy 5. Swear in a title for a best selling book 6. All death is different 7. Make space in your schedule for novelty. Unexpected things will happen in life. Make time for fun things in life! I had to rewatch the video like three times but made a summary for myself and decided to share :) Very great life lessons even for me! I don’t dedicate my life to art but admire artists so much for all they do in such a competitive field. The advice could be applied for anyone I loved the video. New subscriber 🤍

1.1. Beware the social media influence on your reward circuitry. 1.2. Break down the project into the smallest pieces possible, write down and schedule them. 1.3. Temptation bundling: combine a thing that you have to do with something that you want to do and would do anyway: eg. coffee and animating.

Man I would love for you to expand on the "death" part of it all. My mum passed away when I was 23, and honesty she dying was the worst fear I've had trhough my life. I remeber having dreams of her dying when I was a kid and I would wake up crying so much. I think to this day my mum was the person I have loved the most EVER. So it did happen, it was tragic but as soon as it happened I felt I had to keep going with life, and I started to ask so so many questions about existence, and in the process of doing so basically I lost a big chunk of fear of life and got an Increasing curiosity about death (and what's beyond). It ain't like I want to die or anything, I do love my life. My point is, I feel like her passing gave me such an understanding and triggered an immense chain of events that has taught me so much and has lead me to where I am today, that I can't just be good with staying in the "pain" of death. I've learned it is inevitable, (and that sounds obvious) but I think I'm OK with death now. Also my grandparents are 85 years old, and they've always been old to me (lol). There's this fear of them dying that has been cultivated in me since I was a child, like them telling me or always reminding me they are going to die some day. That has blocked me from loving them withouth limits, cause... You know... Why love them if they're going to die anyways?. So that's one thing the certainty of death can do with us, block our love though fear. But 25 years has passed and they're here and they're super healthy and still talking about the day they'll die... So I said screw it, I'm going to love them so much withouth constraints and without fear of death, cause even though it is certain, I don't even know when it's going to happen, and I rather hug them and talk to them and love them as much as I can while I can. Anyways, I love your video, it inspired me to write about this for the first time. You channel is amazing, I just came acroos it las week and I definitely love the work you're doing. Hugs and much love. Roberto, from Venezuela.

Thanks for this comment man, I’ve struggled with death and the death of my loved ones since I was a kid too. Almost every single day, I had to start putting The Simpson’s on as I went to sleep so my mind wouldn’t wonder into death. Needless to say I have an intense bond with the Simpsons now lol. But yeah the part about loving without limits and holding love back out of fear of the immense pain their deaths would cause was obvious, but something I needed to hear/read. So thank you brother. All the best.

You make it so real. Sometimes I get stuck in all of these expectations of who I am. I'm a teacher, yes, but I LOVE making parody skits, photos, etc. I've been doing it all my life. I took a chance recently where I reenacted a vomiting scene for a parody of a class that I teach for adults. And I was borderline should I do it, and I just said, "Hell Yea!" and Everyone, all my peers threw love at me. So yea, I just subscribed because this is the third video I've watched and I'm already hooked. Peace, Love! AND I'm still processing my Mom's death and it has been almost 6 years! Must respect!

Thank you so much for the advice and for the videos. You are such an inspiration. Hey Campbell, I’ve been watching your videos for a few years now and just found this video of yours. I just wanted to thank you for being you and for so openly sharing these life lessons you’ve encountered. I’m 20 currently in school, but I’m taking a semester off because my mom just passed away from cancer. And that part you said about death looking different for everyone couldn’t have come at a better time for me. It’s been about 1 1/2 months since my mom passed and I’ve been feeling this new wave of sadness and anxiety over the past 2 weeks. I don’t really have a final point to make here (foggy brain from grief) but I just felt the need to let you know you’ve helped me greatly from across the world. I’m just at the start of this new version of my life and I know your videos and your art are going to continue to be a light of hope for me as time does it’s thing and moves forward. What you do matters so much and I’m deeply grateful to have found your channel. Sending you peace and love from the U.S.❤

You got a pretty solid list there dude. The death stuff has really been fuckin' with me lately, not so much that it's been happening in my life, cause it hasn't, but just that it happens. Like, we're so good at just shrugging it off, or treating it as a non-issue? We can't even seem to begin on focusing on it. But it happens to every one of us, and this is the only time we have as this. Like, the only time, and it all goes away, every minute it all goes away. What's worse it comes with that feeling of making the most out of everything, but then 90% of the time I just end up in the infinite scroll, or if the energy comes up, can't seem to get life to accommodate that, friends busy trying to make ends meet, family a million miles away. Just, what does it even mean to live in the now, now? What does it take to live a life worthy of your eventual death?

You seem like such a cool, genuine person. I'm really glad your channel showed up in my suggestions. It's a welcome break from all the shallow content I've seeing. I was in such a slump in quarantine that I didn't touch my sketchbook for months. I saw the video of you characterizing all the negative voices in your head and it made me realize that I wasn't just unmotivated due to my external environment, but I was letting my own thoughts talk me into giving up. When I finally started, I realized that I was rusty af, and even wondered if I still had any skills to begin with. Any other time that thought would've discouraged me, but since I found your channel, I've drawn or painted something every single day. I feel awesome. Since April. It's unique for each person they touched during their life. Each of us know people individually. Great advice. Number 6 is definitely true. I have noticed that the process is similar for almost all heavy or traumatic things like abuse, addiction, a nasty break-up, or even the loss of a job. Any loss that requires some 'recovery'. With all these things you shouldn't try to measure your feelings to a standard; there is no standard. Grief runs its own course. However, if you hang in there you will eventually come out the other side and be stronger for it. You will learn important lessons and not take what matters for granted. Sorry to hear about your loss. Take care.

Love love love your videos. I'm a stay-at-home mom for the past 11 years (and pretty sure I'm ADD, and lose focus very easily). Been difficult for me to do anything artistic because my brain thinks it needs loads of time to do anything, so in the end decides to not do anything at all. Or I'll take one day and do lots of art, but then not do any for months, so difficult to pick up progress. Your videos are seriously encouraging me to take baby steps (draw one thing every day for a year was the first video I watched).

This will sound random but when I do my nightly journaling, I like to watch your channel. I find your art and style interesting but you also drop little nuggets of wisdom that resound. Like, that’s exactly what I needed to hear. I don’t usually comment and might not again, but thought I’d share that.

I have spent the whole night watching your videos and all I can say is thank you. As a beginner in the art world, and as scared as I am, this has given me strenght to at least keep on trying. Keep up the hard work, you are a real one! I'd love to chat with you someday!

Thank you for the tips - I can relate to that feeling of being overwhelmed, overshooting deadlines due to misjudging situations and so on. I think the 'Hell yes' rule is very helpful and also the advice not to procrastinate! I gues that's a Sod's Law one! Hope your hand feels right as rain again now.

C - Have benefited so much from your content: laughs, epiphanies, reminder to take a break from burnout and it’s okay. The “we’ll see” or your bleed out and Felicity stories - how it’s woven together in a engaging way. I downloaded the compass and just got 2 of your books from Amazon yesterday, one for me and an extra to share. I wish you success, as you define it, to the nth degree. 👍🏻👍🏻

Dude this is only the second or third video of yours I've watched. Yeah third. But anyway, dude, you are incredible. I mean holy shit man. The way you seem to soak up the important lessons in your life, discard the rest and then package it up all neat and tidy for your viewers is, well... incredible. You have inspired me to try to be more observant, I sort of have this way of sitting in the passenger seat of life with headphones on, not paying close attention to where I'm going. And because of that, when I'm in situations where I'm in the driver's seat, I tend not to know where I am or how to get back home. Hopefully that metaphor made sense and I didn't torture it too much. My point is, I am exceptionally bad at learning from my experiences and I tend to make the same mistakes over and over. You have inspired me to get into the driver's seat and freakin pay attention. You have earned yourself a sub and a loyal viewer my friend.

Just came across u last night. Wow! “I’m” gonna be corny. You’re Awesome! Love you! 😆 You’re relatable, inspiring, hilarious, give a lot of great advice in A LOT of areas that are spot on for me (I discovered my “PASSION” & “LOVE” for art a little latter in life & it’s a bit scattered, I do lots of things 🤪🥳 but it’s Me & I’m not givin up on it.). I’ve gotten so much out of your videos already!! You have no idea!! Fun to watch too. Thanks from Texas! 💙✌🏻 oh, & that accent! 👍🏻😄

So glad I stumbled on your channel. The advice you give and the perspective you have is really valuable. I really like the energy you bring to the videos--like we're all friends having a chat and for some reason I'm just being super quiet so you're doing all the talking. It's helping me a lot with the loneliness I've been experiencing. The friends I had moved out of town and how do you meet new people in a pandemic?? Thank you for being you and doing what you do.

i love how your videos impact all people! And loved to realize that the comments about yours videos have more likes than dislikes (or just don't have dislikes!). Yess dude, I love this! I got off the gram last year and couldn’t be happier. What’s funny is when people reach out as if something terrible happened like “Heyyyy, is everything *okay*???” Meanwhile I’m over here actually enjoying life and everything is even more dandy. I’ve also been known to disappear randomly so yeah. Also, I lost my 29 year old brother in June and this helped me more than you know. Thank you for that. Congratulations on all the success! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
