Then he went back inside to finish the book he was reading about "The Journey of earth catapulting through space"... When he got to chapter about earths travels he read that the earth is traveling at 30 kilometers per second through space. He was puzzled and took out some paper and a pencil and started to calculate this theory. He quickly realized that the book was wrong because if the earth was traveling at 30 kilometers per second it was mathematically impossible for him to see the same stars at night, not only him but all of the countless generations that came before him who also saw the same stars. He thought to himself if that theory were actually accurate then every 500 years we would see different stars and star systems and that astronomy would be changing rapidly, but it doesn't.

New Covenant Whole Gospel: Let us now share the Old Testament Gospel found below with the whole world. On the road to Emmaus He said the Old Testament is about Him. He is the very Word of God in John 1:1, 14. Awaken Church to this truth. Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by husband unto them, saith the LORD: Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Is the most important genealogy in the Bible found in Matthew 1:1 (Gal. 3:16)? Is God's Son the ultimate fulfillment of Israel (John 1:49)? Why has the modern Church done a pitiful job of sharing the Gospel with modern Orthodox Jews? Why would someone tell them they are God's chosen people and then fail to share the Gospel with them? Who is the seed of the woman promised in Genesis 3:15? Who is the "son" in Psalm 2? Who is the "suffering servant" of Isaiah 53? Who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34? Who would fulfill the timeline of Daniel chapter 9 before the second temple was destroyed? Why have we not heard this simple Old Testament Gospel preached on Christian television in the United States on a regular basis? Once a person comes to understand the New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34, which is found fulfilled by Christ during the first century in Hebrews 8:6-13, and Hebrews 10:16-18, and specifically applied to the Church in 2 Corinthians 3:6-8, and Hebrews 12:22-24, man-made Bible doctrines fall apart. Let us now learn to preach the whole Gospel until He comes back. The King of Israel is risen from the dead! Well done. I would answer that question with a story. Remember the two thieves on their crosses to the left and right of Jesus? These two men, in their own way, encapsulate all of humanity and our responses to Christ. On the one hand is a thief who questions why an all powerful being doesn’t save himself (and us!) the trouble of punishment. The existence of punishment is an offense to that theif. On the other hand is a thief who recognizes that he deserves what’s he's getting, and that Jesus doesn’t, so he asks to be remembered by the eternal being at his side. It’s quite a statement of faith, given that all of the disciples had scattered, and Jesus was seemingly defeated at that point. Logically, the whole idea would’ve been preposterous to the other thief who was singularly focused on escaping justice. The cross has always been an offense to those who are perishing. He was scolded by the other thief, “Don’t you fear God? We are getting what we deserve, but this man has done nothing wrong. Jesus, remember me when you enter into your kingdom.” The simple prayer of “remember me” harkens back a number of prayers for salvation and forgiveness among multiple Old Testament figures. We are all thieves awaiting punishment, to one degree or another. Justice must be served. How we respond to the offensive cross will determine whether we escape it.

Couldn’t one simply deny the idea, and it wouldn’t be so? After all, reality is simply the projection of how the mind perceives the universe, rather than the universe itself. So in that sense, an insane man could not be punished, since he wouldn’t be able to comprehend that he is being punished. Nor could a man who is cognitively impaired, or a man who is brain-dead. To them, there is no reality but their own.

I was raised a Baptist. Into my 20s I was a believer. In my early 20s I made the mistake of following along with my Pastor as he gave his sermon. In my teens I had heard more than once "do not take the scripture out of context because doing so may alter it's meaning in an inaccurate way". So, as I followed along with my Pastor, week after week, I realized that he was taking the scripture out of context to bolster some view that he, or the alliance to which our congregation belonged, was espousing. After this realization, I read The Bible cover to cover, twice. I found passages in The Bible that contradicted other passages. I found instances where absolutes that I had been given were not absolutes at all, and sometimes were lies. I began to question many of the things I had been told and sought to find the answers to those questions. I was left to finally conclude the there is no God, that there may not even have been a Jesus Christ, and that religion was just another hoax to help some people accrue power and wealth. Having been raised a Baptist, by parents that were Sunday School teachers, I am conditioned to believe. So, to all of you believers, prove to me that there is a God. Don't waste my time with your claims of faith, or your assertions of intelligent design. Don't wave your Bible in my face. All of that will just reinforce my opinion. What you have to do is to pull out your cellphone, give God a call, and schedule an appointment between the three of us. I have a lot of questions, the first will be "why did He or She choose to be a deadbeat parent and abandon His or Her children?". Get back to me when you have scheduled this appointment. If you can't do so then keep your worship of an imaginary super-friend to yourself.

Not only did this not provide a rational answer to the question, it comes across as manipulative with these used car salesman tactics. That being said, they could work on people who are vulnerable and searching for answers. And in this case, they would likely take any answer. But as far as convincing someone not of the same faith, it falls flat. It's good for us to remember that everyone isn't taught by the same techniques. Not all teachers teach use the same methods. This is why we had some teachers that we loved and others not so much. To ram the notion of sin down someone's throat doesn't always work. To make them see their sin can work much better. This is what I think he was doing here. I train/teach a lot of people about commercial insurance (yeah, I know) and I use the method of asking questions all the time. It works great to lead people to an answer they might not otherwise see. Remember, some plant seeds, some water those seeds and some harvest those seeds. No matter what part you play, you do it as unto the Lord and He gets the glory. Your reward is in Heaven. His "sidestepping" the question wasn't to deflect from it, it was to frame the answer in such a way that the one asking could see it without feeling accused. Jesus did this all the time with parables. When asked who my neighbor is, Jesus presented the answer in such a way as to force the one asking to consider his own condition, not ram some rule down his throat which he already knew the answer to.

The question asked was "So you're saying anyone who doesn't believe just like you is going to hell". What I heard was "I'm not going to answer the question you asked but I'm going to answer questions that I ask", the go-to tactic of politicians and sales people, "and I'm going to re-phrase things using terminology I'm happy with" (so doing something wrong is now a sin), the second most used technique of politicians and sales people. The question could have been answered with a straight yes or no. But an honest answer to that question would be unpalatable so instead it is re-phrased. As the video description mentioned. It's dodged and dressed up as an answer and received as words of wisdom by people who are already convinced. A fundamental element of most world religions is that they are the truth and therefore everyone else is wrong. Why don't you just be honest and say that? This video is really about marketing rather than truth or reason.

So, what I heard is that instead of answering the question "Unless you believe in Jesus, you will burn in Hell." You evaded answering the question to avoid becoming a stereotype. You asked your interlocutor if they believe in Justice for crimes, and then asked if they had done bad things themselves; continuing to evade the original question. Then you created a scenario where there was a Judge willing to pardon his crimes by taking the Punishment him/herself (an obvious metaphor for Jesus' sacrifice). Don't you think that this is a slippery slope? Now the Criminal can Murder, Rape, Molest, steal, etc. etc. because he/she knows that your god is going to forgive them so long as he/she believes that Jesus will do so. It's unfortunate I don't have any desires to commit those types of crimes if it is that easy to get away with them. I doubt the Jewish Person at the Barnes and Noble batted an eyelash at this ridiculous evasion of their original question.

No matter how many times you commit the crime and appear before the judge. There is no punishment for doing wrong in this, if you do or don't do wrong, the same punishment has already been enacted. I take my dogs to the dog park everyday (not raining). Today I saw a 9 month old dog at his first day in the park. He was apprehensive of what was going on and cautious of other dogs and people. But after a few minutes he ventured out to see other dogs and people and he went from cautious and apprehensive to happy. So I thought that God put people in this universe and we are like this pup coming to a dog park for the first time. We are apprehensive and cautious but God means for us to be happy and God gave us the rules to live by to be happy.

Great tactic. However there are many a slips in the substitutionary atonement part which will attract many more questions, e.g., 1. If I will be forgiven for my sins, because of Jesus blood, this knowledge will encourage me to do more sins and creating more Evil on earth like Christians are doing every day. In India, they do all kind of foul and cheating evangelism, In other words God is encouraging sin by this 2. If my punishments to sins are forgiven, I will keep repeating those sins and I will get addicted to those sins and after I go to heaven I will keep on doing those sins in heaven, Then God will send me to hell? 3. If Jesus can only forgive one's sins, what will happen to all billions of people who died before Jesus died on the cross? Where they will be put? Hell? 4. What will all believers who are forgiven for sins, but love to continue to do sins will do after they go to heaven? They will do all kinds of sins in heaven. Then it will be chaos there.

The reason we were produced in the we are, is because. We were not just created for any simple terms. The very reason we were created is to be tempted and Souls be thrown into Hell. That's the terms made by God and the Fallen Angels. I know many will confused and disagreed with me but that is the Truth. The very reason we were created is to partaking in the Spiritual Warfare of Deceptions, Temptations. No man borned on earth, who had not fallen in any of the deceptions and temptations of the Fallen Angels. Once fallen to temptations, our Souls also died. This is the battles between God and the Devil. It is just because if the simple reason that our Creator is The Loving GOD, who found the way to save us. If any body have not understood this, what if the Devil demand any Soul from God saying, " That Soul had fallen into our temptations, should go with us to Hell fire. If you want to throw us to Hell fire, we will take everyone down with us." What about that my friends. Have you understood how grave is Sin. I am also a sinner, i need Some One to save me. Admitting I did something wrong does not make me a sinner. Sin is a religious word of which I do not hold my standards or morality on to. Also, if you think people deserve to get punished for bad behavior than how can you be all for forgiveness. Should Chris Watts who killed his pregnant wife and two daughters be allowed into heaven because he "found Jesus" in prison? If I could get punished for eternity for simply not believing, and yet someone like that gets the comfy afterlife, where is the Justice or mercy?

We called them root cellars in the US. In the Middle ages many people put food to preserve the food so they would not starve and yes they put the food in Hell. So so idiot decided to use Dante's Inferno to rule over people in the middle ages. Jesus made it clear that we should not fear the man who kills the body but not the soul, rather you should fear HIM (aka GOD) can consume the body and soul in the Gehenna fire (not Gehenna hell). I'm genuinely curious what your response would be to this answer of the first question: "do you think people who commit moral crimes aught to be punished?" Yes. But just because I think they should be punished, doesn't mean they will be. Many people get away with their crimes unpunished
@guardianmeister66502 жыл бұрын
You have a good question. By the way I'm on board with Koukl (just so you know where I am coming from). One of the huge points of the Bible is that God is omniscient. A holy God. A just God. A true God. A perfect God ... MUST punish all bad/crimes/sin. While people here on earth cannot prove certain things or lack the means of enforcing some earthly justice, the God who is also omnipotent can and does when that person dies, exits the body and faces Him in eternity (if their sins are somehow not removed or taken out of the way ... they are taken out of the way by the sinner repenting of their sin (repentance toward God) and believing in His Son (faith in our Lord Jesus Chrish), whom he set forth as a perfect offering, the only one that can truly satisfy His Holiness and absorb His wrath). At the risk of seeming to show off (or seem intellectual), I would like to challenge you with a very deep thought. Have you heard of FM radio? FM = frequency modulation. That's where some baseband signal (e.g. a recording of a voice or live voice) that is limited to say, 10 Khz range, is modulated and put on a high frequency carrier. Let's say 78 MHz, which is easily transmitted via a manageably sized antenna. The original voice frequency range would require an antenna the size of the Empire State building (transmit and receive). That's one of the reasons someone invented FM. Using a 78 MHz pure sine wave at the receiver, the FM can be de-modulated and the original voice signal recovered. Voila, you have transmitted someone's voice from here in the world to there, with very little delay! So what does that have to do with anything? Many men commit sins and then "hide" those sins on a high frequency carrier, let's say 89.21483007892 MHz. To prove what they did, first you have to know what frequency they put their sins on. You have to know it EXACLY (in the purest mathematical sense, in reality there is some tolerance). Then you need the right demodulation scheme to recover and see what exactly they did. In the book of Revelation, the Scripture says that those who are not found in Christ will stand at a White Throne judgement seat, where all their sins will become obvious in light of Gods total and absolute perfection. White Light. The imagery is purity, clarity, perfection. Do you know what makes white light? True white light consists of light at ALL frequencies, including 89.21483007892 MHz. Demodulation at the exact carrier frequency will be performed, their sin recovered and presented back to them. They will know they are guilty and they will know they have been caught. They will know that their judgment is just. They will have done things they never wanted anyone else to do to them. But they were perfectly willing to dish it out, hide it and let other people bear the brunt. God, in mercy, pleading with man to be reconciled to Himself, has made the perfect offering in Christ. He has made a way for sins to be taken out of the way and to face Him as Savior, not as Judge.
@Jon-fh6nf2 жыл бұрын
I would first ask what do you mean by moral crimes? Also, you are correct people get away with crimes unpunished all the time but if the God if the Bible is true then they are only getting away from their crimes for a short period. We are alive for a maximum of 120 years most will die well before their 90s. We are dead for a really really long time. It is in this dead time that their crimes will be paid for. The question is who is going to pay for it?

Wendy, the answer is as follows, first, the question was not really intended as an actual question, it was intended as a trap, a stumbling block. That notwithstanding, how I believe is not the key to being right with God; thus, to the direct, verbatim question, the answer is, no, you don't need to believe exactly like me to go to heaven, be right with God, or however one thinks of that. The issue is this, you and I and all of us were irrevocably destined to be separated from our loving God, Creator and Father forever. There was absolutely nothing that could be done about that. BUT, He loved us, He loved me, He loved you; so much so that He was willing to put aside His royal rights, become one of us, and associate with our pain and suffering by suffering Himself, and even dying for us. He paid for our reconciliation, restoration and restitution. He won our war with a horrible destiny and, now, let's us enjoy the rights and privileges to be called children of the King of all kings. I think this is the greatest news ever! The real answer to the question is that God created you for relationship with Him. That's still what He wants; and He was willing to humble Himself and pay with His own life to get it. God bless you, Wendy. I'm praying your eyes are opened to the beauty of true life.

I have grown such that I don't even get into these types of things, because my experience has shown me that they go no where and have no conclusion. I believe what I do and don't have to justify it, and I give the individual the same liberty. A Christian's responsibility is two-fold: Strive to let Christ live out His through them and proclaim, not debate. After you have done the latter, you have planted a seed and that's it. If God wants it watered, it will be and He will give the increase. If they won't hear you, Jesus said shake the dust off of your feet. The way he comes across is that he is concerned about looking bad in man's eyes. Dr. Chopra's question, in my opinion, made him shift his attention from God/The Bible to himself. I agree. I love apologetics, but if someone's heart isn't receptive to God's Word then no amount of debating or attempting to reason them will have an effect. Without seeing and knowing the evil in the world, we wouldn't need faith, would we? Just because you have sinned doesn't mean your going to hell. Hell is not the same as the. Lake of fire and brimstone. And the Lake of fire and brimstone wasn't created for man. It was created for Satan and his angels.
@johnnyreb280 Жыл бұрын
So.. Matthew Henry's commentary often emphasizes the concept of free will in interpreting biblical passages. In the context of individuals with sociopathic tendencies sir, the perspective could be that God grants humans the freedom to make choices, even if those choices lead to immoral behavior. The idea is that God's omniscience doesn't negate human responsibility for their actions. Consequently, the potential for sins leading to hell may be viewed as a consequence of individual choices rather than a predetermined design by God. This perspective aligns with the theological theme of free will present in many Christian interpretations.

When someone commits a wrong, there is and must be an injured party. The moral debt is to the injured party. Not to a mythical entity who is supposedly in control of your soul after you die. If you want a clear conscience and an unburdened soul while you are alive, you make amends with the injured party. Or live in some way to repay the debt created. You don't rely on a mythical forgiveness that is basically a self-delusion that the injury you caused is somehow magically erased. Taking ownership of our errors and living better as a result is how we grow as human beings. Not by living in fear of an ancient myth.

The debate shouldn't be seen as sticking it to your opponent, but as a way to bridge understanding between you and them. If you're a Christian who doesn't want to look stupid or who wants to stick it to some atheist who thinks they know better than you, your head is in the wrong place. Whether you debate a Muslim or a Jew or a Buddhist or an atheist, you should always keep in your mind that at then end of the conversation you want to call them brother or sister and no to push them away out of vanity. The Bible has the answers, if it didn't it wouldn't have spread all over the world and stuck. People have questioned the Bible since its conception and they always should because it needs to stand up to scrutiny. With that said, this is a good way of handling it. When blunt questions are asked like this the questioner almost always wants a blunt answer intentionally. They don't want a follow up, they just want "yes if you don't believe in Jesus Christ you're going to hell" and nothing more. It's meant to shame you rather than engage with you, but when you have the opportunity to engage and to delve deeper and explain that we are human beings and we have done wrongs and because we've done wrong we deserve punishment as punishment is apart of justice, but that God in choosing to die at our hands and telling us we are forgiven is payment for our sins from then on, it becomes a bigger a deal. If you know of Christ and know that he died for the forgiveness of sins, how can you refute God? To refute him and to say I don't believe is to not want God and hell is punishment because it is a place without God. Now if one were to say "I'm not convinced" I would still say that there is reason to examine the bible further and examine the points of doubt, because there are answers out there, you just have to look

You're wong. "some atheist who thinks they know better" is not the case. Unlike Christians, atheists don't care about unanswered questions as unlike any religion, science and common sense answer them one by one. There are millions of things that used to be explained as God's punishment and now turned out to be absolutely natural and explainable. Nobody will ever provide an evidence a guy called Jesus didn't live in that place during that time as that would mean saying there was no John Smith living in London in 2005. Unfortunately, all the rest is mythology and it's totally unnecessary if you just want to be a good person living a good life. Willingness to do good things to others must be much stronger motivation than the fear of going to hell and it that's not the case for someone, he has serious issues.

This is crazy, your whole point is to use trickery to make someone believe they need Jesus' forgiveness for just living a normal life. Now People who commit crimes of the land, deserve punishment by the judicial systems we have in place, and serve their time accordingly. People who are by definition " atheist", don't need to ask God for forgiveness if they're going about their daily lives, not harming anyone. For example, my life goes like this: I wake up, go for a run, go to work, tell my wife I love her, do an honest day's work, come home, spend time with my wife, go to bed......what apparent sin am I committing? I don't murder, rape, steal, or get into anyone else's business, yet apparently, I'm a sinner? I love my wife, I'd never hurt her or treat her unkindly, and in turn, she treats me amazingly too. So I see no need for all these tricky sidestep maneuvers to prove a point like you're doing. It's actually unbelievable a Christian would need to use deception to answer a question. Perhaps that it a sin in itself. Your move.

Actually 'ethos' (greek) is semantically synonym for 'mores' (latin, plural for mos). Cicero in his contemplations on free will (De Fato) translated Aristotles greek 'ethos' into 'mores'. They both mean 'character'. So ethics and morality are quite the same. Some however try and make a difference by stating that ethics is the study of morals. Imo a personal view and I don't adhere to that. Both are correct when describing the 'character' of one's behaviour to others. Imo, ethos and mores are 'expected' (oughts) behaviour of individuals in a society through the mechanism of intersubjectivity. Intersubjectivity can be viewed roughly as 'common sense'.

Greg Koukl assumes that the answer to his question, ‘Do you think that people who commit moral crimes ought to be punished?’ is an unconditional ‘Yes’. Of course, it’s much more complicated. Firstly, there’s the question of the seriousness of the crime - not all crimes are equally serious. Secondly, there’s the question of the severity of the punishment - few crimes, if any, deserve eternal torture. So we can still, reasonably, ask: would a just, loving God condemn someone to eternal punishment, simply for a few minor misdemeanours?
@ianwaltham18543 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. These are the aspects of Christianity that I struggle to understand.
@coreygossman62433 жыл бұрын
That requires an understanding of what hell is, and why hell is eternal torture. Mainly, hell is existence away from God, meaning it is without any of the characteristics that God gave this world to help sustain it (Justice, Love, Beauty etc). Read the Bible regarding hell, and read what Jesus says. The chronology for nonbelievers is Death->Undeworld->Resurrection->Lake of Fire. The bible actually suggests that Death and Hell are thrown into the Lake of Fire. Perhaps that is a final destruction. For those who are willing to follow Christ, there is a different chronology. Death-> Heaven with God->Resurrection -> New Heaven and Earth.
@coreygossman62433 жыл бұрын
So to answer the question, a just, loving God gave you free will, revealed himself and his wishes to you through his Son and the Apostles. His love means that if you accept Christ in your heart then he will forgo the Justice that you deserve for rebelling against God. Jesus tells you the standard for sin, harsh as it is: if you have lusted after a woman in your heart, you have committed adultery. If you have been angry with your brother, you have committed murder in your heart. We all fail to meet the standard, but God rewards even our attempts, and God rewards our faith.
@firstclass0003 жыл бұрын
More like: would a just, loving God force you to be with him in eternal life even if you don't care or want anything to do with him? We could also ask: If man loves a woman but the woman doesn't like the man... does the man force the woman to be with him? Or does he let her go because he truly loves her? God only interferes in your life if you open your door. He's knocking every day but your stubbornness keeps the door shut.
@matheusdardenne3 жыл бұрын
"Not all crimes are equally serious" By breaking the smallest of commandments you are guilty of transgressing against the whole Law. James 2:10 Jesus said that being angry at someone is the same as murder and calling someone a "fool" puts you in danger of hellfire. Matthew 5. Hell is not about punishing the crime, but about people's self-inflicted separation from God, out of hate. God is the source of all light, love, and joy; take that away, and what's left? Being in God's presence will feel to those who hate God like sunlight to a vampire. Still... this is self-inflicted, and "hell is locked from the inside" as C.S.Lewis wrote and I agree. Very few who are in this state will want to leave, however. They will rather be forever in darkness, sorrow, and anguish than repent before God, such is their pride.

People are social animals and most of us have a strong sense of empathy. Morality doesn't come from some supernatural being, we deduce what is right and wrong by how we want to be treated. It's not complicated & that's why we learn that before preschool. Just because some people get away with doing wrong things doesn't mean we have to create a universal justice system. If someone does something wrong they're probably going to get caught, if they don't they have to live in constant fear that they will be caught eventually. Why do we need to look further than the obvious? There's no good reason to believe in anything supernatural.
