Started out looking at Stryds presentation of the new features but after a few minutes I saw your video in the feed, instantly switched and got a much better overall presentation. The workout builder looks really interesting and that alone might tip me towards a membership. Been using Final Surge for that up until now but this seems smoother. Thanks for sharing, your vlogs are always of top quality! 🙏

whether this good value i think depends on how much you value power training and how much you believe in their training plans. I’ve been using it for 6 months and the results have for me have been excellent and the integration with Apple watch is seemless. Subs are a pain but it is unrealistic to expect them to sell a piece of hardware and have no additional revenue from you for a company constantly improving their software and improving the service they offer. For the price of a pair of daily running shoes for annual subs I’ll pay it as the results from power training give me more satisfaction than a spare of shoes will.

Great video, as always, Ko! I've been beta-testing the new features and was consulted on the pricing . . . I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised that the subscribtion is lower than I expected . . . but, alas, it is yet another subscription. Love the new features, and - for me - I think that they are worth the $19.99 for the first six month teaser price. I also agree that it's too bad that the race estimate feature is going to disapper behind the pay wall . . . that was one the main reasons that I bought a Stryd last September. Maybe they will reconsider. It's one truly "added value" feature that might then convince people to buy a Stryd, and then convince them that subscribing to the other features might be worth it.
@Greye_Vernados
@Greye_Vernados 3 жыл бұрын
I think that 19.99 should be the standard price per 6 months. Maybe 29.99 for 6 months and 12 months for 49,99.

I’m sure some people will complain about the subscription plan. Ive had my Stryd since the first of 2021. I like the info that I get from the footpod and have played around with some of the power training plans in the app. I’m a data junkie so it fits with my personality. I’m willing to pay a monthly fee so Stryd developers will be able to continue to improve the app and data collection processes.

They should focus on making stryd more accurate, or atleast dont claim it that you dont need to calibrate it. Stryd reported power/pace depends on: -shoe type -shoe lace tension -position on the shoe lace -running technique And the list goes on. So charging for power based training plan when the power numbers can be 10-20w off is not ideal. Its like doing hr training with an optical sensor, you can but you shouldnt. Sorry for being negative, I still like to use Stryd because there is no good alternative option.
@TimGrose

Yeah I like the Stryd but have experienced a lot of that and the Air Power often seems low or non existent even when it is quite windy.
@Nonixification
@Nonixification 3 жыл бұрын
@@TimGrose The wind power sometime is 0% on the Vaporfly, probably the weird position causing it. Funny thing is that I dont need to calibrate pace on that shoe, "100" calibration works fine. The annoying thing is if there is no wind detected I get around 5-15w lower avg power. And that can be very frustrating as half marathon effort and marathon effort is very close to each other.

I think the Stryd business model is whacked. Usually subscription models have products at a very low cost - the money is made from the reoccurring subscription and not the product. Actually, in many cases the product in itself is often used as a "loss leader" and written off for the customer acquisition/subscription. Ironically, the Stryd hardware is WAY OVERPRICED and then they are tacking on a subscription on top of it? No thanks. That pod shouldn't be a dollar over $50 at most. Not a fan of the gouging.

Guess it is tough as until now selling the pods has been their only obvious revenue stream. However I have had the “newer” Summit one that does Air Power several years now and that is a long time to sell the same product in this sort of space. So I can totally see why they are heading this way.
@Lupsipupsi

I unterstand very well the introduction of this subscription model. I own Stryd for more than 3 years now. It is a pretty perfect device from the beginning on with little room for further improvement. They introduced air power some time ago as inovation which was never a reason for me to upgrade to the new device. To put therefore the emphasis on analytics of all the data provided by Stryd behind a pay wall is a good and reasonable approach for this company. I wish other companies would follow this path. E.g., I prefer my Garmin 245 much over the Fenix6 Pro for running, but I wish I simply could add features by some kind of subscription - technically the devices are more or less all the same and I don‘t like this artifical limitation of features based on the price paid for the devices.

I'm not sure how I feel about it yet as a current stryd user. I do like the new classic workouts. $10/mo feels pricey to me, but maybe that's the going rate with other services. I do think it's too expensive upfront for new users. I'd like to see something more aggressive like $60 + 6 mo sub. Or maybe different two different sub plan tiers.

I’m highly disappointed with the type of feedback available on the Apple Watch from a Stryd workout. The most that happens is a haptic vibration if I’m out of the target power range at each interval of the workout. They would have to make massive improvements to justify me starting to pay for power-based workouts. I’ll stick with WorkOutDoors and the coming Stryd power integration Ian, the developer is currently working on.

Thanks Kofuzi not sure if I will subscribe if $10 is equivalent to £10 that’s an odd conversion rate. I’ve been using my Fenix 6pro and Garmin HRM which provides similar stats. My issue has been since all UK races are now 90d old my critical power is low, making the plans too easy. Garmin has been increasing my V02 Max and feels more accurate given my mileage and fitness is greater, just not got that extra % from actual races. Bit disappointing, I think £5 PM no question just do it £120 per year, for data that I know isn’t reliable, feels steep.

Yeah my CP hasn’t moved in 4 months largely as I haven’t “raced” a 5K or 10K even as a time trial but feel my training is progressing. As such it has been predicting a 5K time that I like to think would not be too hard to achieve. Garmin metrics far more receptive as they don’t rely on you having to go all out to see progression.

In addition, slash the price in half.

I agree with you: the race power calculator is a major reason to use Stryd. I started a pace-based training plan before I bought Stryd, and had no problem with that, even on the hilly roads around here. However, once the power curve had been calculated from my training runs, I followed Stryd's recommendation for the race, and beat my target with a very consistent run. Without that feature, I would feel I was collecting data in PowerCenter for no reason. I have signed up for the discounted six-month starter subscription, but I am not sure I will continue at full price. Hopefully, the calculator will remain available to me as an existing user. If not, I shall probably try building my own calculator using data points from the power curve, but updating a spreadsheet every time the curve moved would be a real pain compared with the built-in tool.

I bit on the 6 month introductory pricing, but yea, there are subscriptions for everything. Strava, Training Peaks, Stryd, MyFitnessPal, etc... It is getting a bit much. The other thing is, the Workout application is only available on Garmin and Apple. In addition, they are very biased with application updates hitting Apple before Android (for the mobile application). I would really like to see the workout application make it to the likes of Polar and Coros as well. Lastly, like why can we not see power data on Strava? Like, c'mon man. Maybe that's more of a Strava thing but... first world problems I guess...
@tim2oo6
@tim2oo6 3 жыл бұрын
You can see the power data on Strava actually. If you have a Garmin or AW, just makes sure Stryd does the pushing to Strava and not Apple, Garmin Connect or any third party app. But Strava only shows power data in the mobile version, but that’s a Strava problem, not Stryd‘s.

@tim2oo6
@tim2oo6 3 жыл бұрын
@@PhilippBorn yes, indeed. This problem is I think, that Garmin does not support running power from Stryd natively and that Stryd power for Garmin is just a random connect IQ value, so it doesn’t push the value to Strava. I think Coros and Polar are better on that end. But on the other hand, Strava does not provide much detail on running power anyways. You can see the graph in the mobile app and it can calculate a power curve and CP similar to Stryd, but there is no support for zones or looking at the data in the web version.

As an existing user, I'm not sure that I see the value. I'll definitely go and see what's moving behind the paywall. Massive disclaimer, I don't train by power alone and my watch only displays power, it can't handle structured workouts. As an Android user, the app has been lagging behind the iOS functionality so it's not accurate to say we've had a chance to assess it for months. The timing's been poor also as it's been race season here, so I'm not keen on just doing a bunch of random workouts or changing methodologies. Perhaps if I'd bought in to power training as my primary method, I could justify it but having bought a proprietary footpod (or a running power metre perhaps) Why did I buy it if not to train by power? Good question. I'm a data fetishist I guess? I'm not sure it's a great strategic move by stryd, there's already a serious barrier to entry (footpod price) in what's already a niche offering/small ecosystem (training by power). I understand the need for reoccurring revenue within that finite group of early adopters, but I don't think it increases the size of the overall pie or increases adoption

I have the coros pace 2 and Stryd. It’s a great combo, and syncs flawlessly. The only downside is when I build a workout in the Stryd app, I have to manually recreate it in the coros app. I execute the workout on the watch, then after my run, In the Stryd app I will “pair” the Stryd workout with the run data that coros sent to the Stryd app. And all the work phases and splits will sync up perfectly. If you already own an Apple Watch SE, and buy the Stryd pod, then I think you should try the Stryd Apple Watch app first. The Stryd Apple Watch app is great (I hear). It will sync everything automatically. Well, if I had already owned an Apple Watch, that’s what I would have done. Hope this helps!

Also I should have stated that I went with the Stryd because I too wanted to take my running serious, and training by power has proved to be fun and is also making me faster. I use Stryd to analyze the data (coros app is lacking with the analysis). Why should we pay a subscription to Stryd in order to access new and existing features? Garmin doesn’t, neither does Apple. Both develop new features without requiring a subscription.
