On second thoughts, please don’t! Either these people (a) have a problem with their hearing, (b) don’t have the attention span to listen to this long enough, let alone to learn how to craft such beautiful sounds, (c) are so unhappy with their lives they have nothing positive to contribute to any discussion about creativity, or (d) all of the above. But let’s not be angry or irritated by them - I’m only sorry they couldn’t get as much joy or pleasure as I did from listening to every second of this. Thank you Antoine, that was beautiful 🙌

I love how whimsical this effects pedal sounds. The clarity seems pretty good!

He’s using more aged-tape settings in the demos so wow, flutter, dropout and reduced fidelity and being introduced to the sound. Turn the Tape Age and Wow & Flutter settings to 0 and it’s very clean and clear with some warmth but doesn’t sound digital, it’s like a brand new EchoPlex or Roland Space Echo. At that point it’d be more like a digital delay with an all tube preamp.

I absolutely love delay! I have 3 delay pedals... 1st, Boss DD-7, for basic delays. Think rock crap, spring, slap-back, nothing to strenuous. 2nd, the Strymon El Capistan, which I use either the types of delays with tape degradation, like you hear in this vid (which is great, BTW), or for max time, single C, Frippertronics. This pedal is amazing for stuff like this. 3rd is a Walrus Fable Delay. I'm at a loss to try to explain how this pedal works. Something like 'Granular delay slices fed back upon themselves'... ??? Whatever... it was the pedal that went far to slam home my musical exploration, but only with the El Capistan riding herd with it. Then add in a max DD-7 repeat...? For me, when I combine the three of them and somehow get them to cooperate with each other, the result is amazing. I thought I understood delay timing, ms to beat crap. Nope. Now, I'm just beginning to get it. It's a blast!!

+MrDT543 Glad I can help ! You can try to set every knob ''off'' or ''flat'', and turn only one knob at a time to hear what it does. Even all the secondary functions are easily distinguishable, in my opinion, you just have to take the time to learn what they are :)

Every one of these settings is just gorgeous. I just bought mine today. It perfectly fills the gaps that my H9 cant attain. I love my H9, but the delays in the El Cap just have that certain something. I couldnt imagine playing without one now. Ive only messed with it a few hours now but between the Mobius, Deco and El Cap, the tones I am creating are astounding to say the least. I may borrow some of your settings here if thats ok with you. :) Instant classic.

Unfortunately, I am not able to find the sheet where I took all my notes and I don't have the time to try to recreate every single sound to see if every parameter is ok... If there is one particular sound you think is inaccurate and that you really want to know, I could try to recreate it, but otherwise, you will need to experiment a little. I'm very sorry for that !!!

Excellent settings loved the sounds. This doesn't help me choose between the Dig and El Capistan however! They both sound fantastic but I can only afford one!

I have one video for each pedal and they each sound incredible. But if I had to choose between the two, I'd choose the El Capistan. I really like tape delays :) and it has a looper and reverb integrated, so it's a nice plus! But he DIG also has 2 delays, so it's really handy too... I can't decide for you ;)

Man, several weeks have passed since I watched this video, and I still can't decide between the El Cap and the DIG. I LOVE the sound of the El Cap, but why it has to go mute when you tap in a new sound? Why aren't there more stereo options (DIG: Series, Parallel, even Ping-Pong)? The El Cap is the perfect athmosphere-machine, no matter what you play, it sounds dreamy and awesome! The DIG on the other hand sounds cleaner, straighter, but with infinite more rythmic options! I wish someone would take the decision off my shoulders!

The El Capistan can't go Ping Pong or Parallel because it is not a dual delay. You can't feed the repeats into each others or separate them when you only have one repeat ;) Depends if you want one or two delay options in the same pedal! El Capistan has way more control on the modulation, tone and character of the repeats, but the DIG has a lot more rhythmic options and more possibilities to create unique sounds with the interaction of both delays. Monochrome Seasons You know what, yesterday I tried both of them in a music store, and while the rythmic possibilites of the Dig are great, the sound of the El Cap was just so much nicer and fuller. I am a recording artist first and foremost, and I figured I can do what the Dig does with a delay-plugin I have on my DAW (rythmic delay in stereo), while I definitely CAN'T re-create what the El Cap does. That right there is pure DSP-Magic! So I thank you for this video (which helped a lot), and your suggestions! Because of you I am a proud (and very happy) El Cap owner now!!! :-)

Ok et mon opinion est que la El Capistan est une émulation de delay à bande,et pour une émulation,cela devrait sonner vintage,or cela sonne très numérique ! Bien que digital également,l'Echorec tue la El Capistant par son coté "vraiment" vintage. Ce n'est pas une critique,mais une simple constatation.

What's the main setting that drives that twittery sound at 1:55? I'm referring to that twisty sound that has a borderline vocal quality to it. If I were to visualize it, it sounds like tiny whorls forming in water and spinning into smaller and smaller circles until spun out of existence. That is a very eerie yet pleasant sound.

The main setting I tried to show here was the Tape Crinkle. It is maxed out at 100% and I had to put down some other settings at zero (Tape Bias, Reverb, Tape Age, Wow & Flutter), so the Tape Crinkle really steals the character of the repeats. That's what you refer as "twittery'' or ''twisty'' :)

Hi there! Amazing video dude! So nice of you sharing all those fantastic sounds. I'm about to buy these pedal but I've read that it has some issues on the dotted 1/8 setting (which I think is the "fixed - B" mode) when you tap tempo. Did you have any problems with that so far?

+Marius Söderström Never had any issues with it ! What do people say ? Does it not adjust the tempo in time with the footswitch ? I have to admit I don't use the tap tempo that much, but when I do, all is ok with it !

May I ask, on one of the last examples, (at 6:12 and 6:15) you produced a kind of feedback sounding note - Is this from using harmonics and easing in the volume with the guitar pot or a volume pedal? Or is it from using this with a combine expression pedal somehow? Can you please explain what that’s from? Just love it 👍

At the time of this video I was running in stereo into a Vox AC15 and a Fender Blues Jr. Now I have a Suhr Badger 30 instead of the Blues Jr. Thanks for the kind words :)

I had both, and the El Capistan was my favorite. It just has a special flavour and tone that the Timeline doesn't have on the dTape mode. That being said, if you want more versatility and need a lot of presets, the Timeline is for you. It all depends on your needs and what it will be used for. But if you ask, the El Capistan wins it for me for the sound itself!
