I love Stryper from his first album, "The yellow and black attack", when I was a teenager. Today, with almost 54 years, I still love the band and enjoying these old videos of our golden age: theirs, and mine! Anyway, the current Stryper is as talented as ever and heavier than before, if possible. His current albums are the best of Heavy Metal today, although the mass media don't even realize it. It doesn't matter: Jesus still has someone who takes His word to metalheads, and to the whole world, through Rock. The pioneers are still on the road, and God willing they keep rocking for long years yet!

In God We Trust came out at a time when albums were being over-produced, trying to sound as glossy and big as possible. Good management would've pulled back the reins on the album, knowing that the band couldn't replicate that sound live. I saw them on all of their major tours in the 80's and in the last 10 years. They set a very high bar for rock concerts for me. They always delivered!

Well, here the text as how michael sweet explains in his book honestly the reason that on this tour using some tracks to help the voices certainly sing these songs on tour a full year is very tiring for the singer since in this record especially michael sweet sang at her highest ranking so good here I leave some pages of the book where he explains that: page 421 Also, just prior to tracking the lead vocals, I got sick and my voice didn’t recover so well. It took me almost a month to get the vocals wrapped. I was facing a couple of hurdles vocally during the process. The most obvious was the physical barrier I faced with my diminished vocal capacity due to illness. But the more prominent underlying challenge I faced was psychological. These songs were written at the peak of my vocal range. I had a mental war going on inside my head thinking, “I can’t sing this stuff. It’s just too high.” Daily, I struggled to achieve that perfect vocal take. We were purposely trying to get the tightest, most radio-ready recording we could possibly achieve. Eventually, we did, but accomplishing that “polished” sound was difficult. It is part of the reason we rarely play any of the songs from that album in our set today. Truthfully, it’s just too difficult to pull off, and the problem isn’t just the vocal challenges. That album is layered and stacked with multiple guitar parts and an exorbitant number of backing vocals, keyboards and whatever else we could throw in. Often as we get together to rehearse for tour, we’ll make a feeble attempt to perform acceptable renditions of a few of the songs from In God We Trust. I feel that it’s easier said than done, not without playing to pre-recorded tracks, which is something we haven’t done since the tour we did to support that album. During that tour Robert played to a click track so that we could run backing tracks along with our live performances. Included in those tracks were extra guitars, keyboards, and a lot of extra vocal harmonies. I’m proud to say, that era of our life-the “playing to tracks” era-was short-lived. Even then, we always performed live. It’s not as if we weren’t playing our instruments-we were. We just had a little help, or a lot of help, enhancing the sound with some pre-recorded backing tracks. Funny thing is, you’d be shocked to learn not only how many bands did it then, but how many bands do it to this day. these are the words of mr sweet. in his book =) hope of some help with this.

I remember seeing Stryper 3 times in 1989, for the IGWT tour.. (one was San Bernardino..) and was floored, astonished by Michaels voice.. after seeing the In The Beginning Video clips of live shows, and Live in Japan, not that his performance isn't great on those, but not quite up to the album vocally..almost, but you know, without layered harmonies, one take all the way through, a pro learns quick you better pace your vocal chords.. night after night on tour Especially. ANYWAY, my point was, I was Astonished by how close to of all albums IGWT Michaels vocals were!! Arguably that album represents the highest register vocally.. intense vocals throughout.. and Michaels performance at all 3 shows I saw just was beyond what even I expected.. I was so blown away by his singing. Incredible power and range, and stamina...J.

Saw these guys at the War Memorial in Trenton NJ with the Philly band Teaser opening in 85 or 86. It was an odd show, we were long haired metalheads, but there were so many clean cut kids there with their parents. We were getting dirty looks for smoking weed and doing lines of blow in the bathroom, not that we were hiding what we were doing. I do remember they were real good sound wise, vocals and twin guitar solos, etc. We were amused when they threw bibles into the crowd, and had lights on either side of the stage with 666 on one and devil on the other with the big red circle "buster" marks over them. What a wierd night.

This is the one and only Stryper video I can find where Michael Sweet actually hits SOME of the really high notes from their albums live. His voice sounds different in this video from the other live videos I’ve found, which makes me wonder if they went back and re-recorded some of these vocals in a studio (like many musicians do on “live” albums)? He FAKED the final note of “Soldiers Under Command”, but he did actually hit some other legit high notes in this live video, unlike all the other live Stryper videos on KZbin.

I could be wrong....but I think that Michael is not singing live in In God We Trust. You can hear the difference in his voice in the other songs while IGWT sounds just like the record. Then again, it is indeed an extremely difficult song to sing live, specially with the high scream at the end (an amazing C6).
@eugeniogarrido70937 жыл бұрын
Thanks. That explains it. He recorded the album too high and then couldn´t pull it off live.

Eugenio Garrido some parts are live and some aren't
@theheadlessguitarist75 жыл бұрын
This whole video is live, Noel. Eugenio, if you listen to the original studio "In God We Trust" side-by-side with this live version (the opening song), they're not identical. He is actually singing it, not lip syncing.
@eugeniogarrido70934 жыл бұрын
@@theheadlessguitarist7 He´s singing live partially but if you listen carefully, whenever there is a very high note to sing the volume is lower and the sound different. When he´s singing live you can spot differences from the record but the screams or high notes sound exactly like the album. These high notes and many backing vocals and strings/keyboards are pre-precorded tracks. Everything else is live.
@theheadlessguitarist74 жыл бұрын
@@eugeniogarrido7093 nope. It's all live because there is no delay on the screams like in the studio. Remember how in the studio there is a delay? There is none here. It's live, bro, trust me. I've compared them side by side. Two different things, completely! Michael Sweet's not going to lip sync some parts to one song and then actually sing others in that same song. Too much to deal with upstairs, and if he messed up even the slightest, it would be WAY too obvious.
