Stryper on "Man Alive" (1985)

Stryper on Canadian TV show Man Alive in 1985. The episode "Heavenly Metal" is about Christian rock music. They interview and show concert footage of Stryper as well as a few other Christian bands.

I’m 51 and have listened to Rock music my entire life and I love the Lord and so does my family! We are active in our church and if it wasn’t for the music.. especially the band Stryper I don’t think I would still be a believer! Thank you Jesus for there ministry

Full disclosure: I never met Roy Bonisteel; a video producer asked the questions and filmed me. There were actually two interviews that took place in short succession. The other was with Daniel Richler (son of Mordecai Richler) for The New Music Show on CITY-TV and MuchMusic. I owe a great deal of my spiritual formation to the people I met through those early days of what is now the Christian music industry and I'm thankful for that entry point into the wider world of Christianity.

Wow this was Awesome! Never seen this before. Praise God! Stryper lives what they sing. Religion got in the way then and its still the same now. They have always been mocked. I will state this from my upbringing, I came to my faith in Jesus from listening to Christian Rock music. The church I was attending was completely religious and legalistic. It's the songs that brought me to the Lord, not the grumpy religious leaders.

We assign toooo much influence to our church elders. My advice to young Christians ( and this is coming from a guy from the eighties that loved stryper) is this...nothing bad happened because stryper and to this day nothing catastrophic happened because of them. NOTHING!!!!!! Yet, your christian leaders were lining up to make their heavenly opinions known to YOU and to shove them down YOUR throats. Where exactly did they get their all knowing , superior understanding of music FROM????? Who gave these people the right to advise YOU. Be careful of those that seek to advise you in the church. Im glad I ignored them...stryper gave me many years of listening pleasure...ALMOST 40 YEARS LATER THEY ARE STILL TOGETHER These church leaders complained about their music, yet by todays standards it is BETTER (lol) than todays offerings. Today, Michael Sweet (singer) is celebrated in the music industry as one of the finest singer/ song writers of our time, musically gifted and is still producing record after record.... Your anti-stryper type ministers led you astray

Many years ago I witnessed the chrisitian hatred of Stryper for many reasons. So many chritians would state that AMY GRANT was the epitome of what Christian music is...and SHOULD BE as this was gods music. YEAH!!!!! Well go and see what she was getting up to...such a naughty girl

And look what Jimmy Swagger did. He cheated and went against God. Jimmy later Repented and moved forward for Jesus Christ. There are Good Rock Bands out there that stands for God and Jesus Christ. If it's going against God and His son Jesus Christ than yes its wrong but these bands stand for Jesus and they are leading people to Jesus Christ and that is all that matters. These people need to stop their nonsense because they 1st need to look in the mirror because their life isn't perfect and they need to stop. God says not to judge. God also says to forgive and if we can't forgive God won't forgive us. Didn't Jesus say..... He who cast the 1st stone cast it on yourself 1st. In biblical days they had music, wine and dancing but it wasn't to be abused and it was because they allowed Satan to get a hold of them. Satan is out to destroy anyone and he wants Christians too to burn in Hell with him when God destroys this world. Just because there are bands out there that are Christian Rock Bands doesn't mean they are bad bands. They sing rock music leading lost souls to Christ. Isn't that Awesome.
