I think part of the reason they still sound great, besides the blessing of God on they're lives is they haven't destroyed their minds and talent with drugs and alcohol. Thank you Lord for a Christian Band that really rocks. I remember them in the 80's. I'm 64.

@@steely666 Thats so dumb. So, if God wanted us to rely on faith having no proof, which the bible says, wouldnt he allow innocent people to die? I know this is getting big and deep, but if innocent wives never died, innocent children never died, couldn't one make a strong argument for the existence of a higher power? Answer that.

I loved these guys as a kid! God, they still sound remarkable! True story.... In 8th grade our music teacher had us bring in music to play for the class, and he would rate them, see Mr. Brunell was a classical pianist and he loved all things classical. Well, I brought in Stryper’s Battle Hyme of the Republic, for the class to listen to and this is what He said to us as he was almost in tears, he said something in these lines “This was powerful, this is almost perfect! But I can’t give these guys a 10, bc there’s only one man that can create a perfect score (as he turns and point at a picture hanging on the wall), Mozart!” I’ll never forget that day!!! Br. Brunell gave my taste in music a 9.5 rating!!! 🤟 RIP Mr. Brunell!!!!

@@zexedearth89 Actually, that’s not quite accurate. They did use some prerecorded background vocal tracks in some of their early years - the “In God We Trust” tour comes to mind - but Michael’s lead vocals were always live. I believe that they pretty much stopped using the prerecorded background vocal tracks around the time of their “Against the Law” tour. Yes, they continue to use keyboard backing tracks for a few staples (such as “Honestly” and “Sing-Along Song”) and there is a brief guitar sample that they use in “The Way,” but that is pretty much it - and these are all instrumental tracks/sample, nothing related to the vocals. In recent years, Michael has been much more strategic about which high notes to sing live - he has to, otherwise he wouldn’t have any voice left by the end of the show. Also, don’t overlook Oz’s vocals. In certain songs he sounds incredibly similar to Michael. In 2018, when they did “Always There For You,” Oz took the “lead” and Michael did the lower harmony for a portion of the chorus. Sorry if this was rambling a bit, but the truth is Michael Sweet sounds this good because he IS that good, not due to fakery or prerecorded vocals.

Such a great mix, totally balanced (apart from the start of Oz solo). Friend of mine saw them late 80s at a festival with the stage at the bottom of a valley making a natural bowl. The acoustics were terrible. My friend was mixing for one of the early bands and said he couldn't get a good sound. Stryper came on later and their sound was perfectly balance. He still has no idea how they did it. They also kicked and blew everyone away. Total professionals.

I had sat i church for about three years and had figured out what I had to do, but was a bit concerned about music.
