Thank you for covering less popular cases. In depth good reviews of stuff like this are more needed in the space.

I have this case, with a 4090 and a 7800x3d. I have used it for 6 months, and here are my thoughts: The case performs fine at what it is supposed to do, but it could easily have been even better. - the audio cable lenght: wtf silverstone? Just make it 15cm longer. I actually had to route mine between the GPU and the MB - The front intake: why are there just two? Another front fan would have veen very helpfull for GPU air - I use a LFIII 240 in a push/pull, with all arctic p12max's. This creates a problem; because of the insane positive airflow, the two fans trying to give air to the GPU actually strugles to deliver fresh air, because of the preassure inside the case. It does not help that the air filters installed are INCREDABLY restrictive. In GPU benchmarks my temperature drops by 10ish C just by removing the filter. This is also true for idle temps. The filters are 3 layers of metal, plastic, and fabric, wich I would estimate actually restricts like 75% of the intake, it is actually wild. I have been thinking about reversing the airflow somewhat; intake on the back, GPU side and PSU side, and exhaust in the front. This will probably lead to more dust buildup, but will also probably give better temps.
@spaghettilocomotiveАй бұрын
There's actually a very simple solution, and that is to reduce the speed of the radiator fans, the 7800x3d is not struggling because of heat in any case, just let the gpu have more airflow.
@jonjohansen9461Ай бұрын
@@spaghettilocomotive I like quiet gaming, so all fans are running at 20% most of the time. But I have considered simply removing 2 out of the 4 fans in the front, because they are overkill. As you say, the 7800x3d will be fine anyway.

This is the type of case we were using in the 2000s to build Windows Media Center PCs or Myth TV HTPCs etc... This is a throwback design for sure but modernized with an open case design. If i was building now i would use something like the Fractal Ridge instead and I would go with something like those minisforum motherboards with laptop cpus and preinstalled heatsink and all nvme so i could minimize the cabling rats nest inside.

Actually at only 31 liters in size, this case is considerably smaller than typical ATX tower cases (45 - 60 liters). So our engineers did quite a lot to be able to allow you to fit all ATX sized components into what is effectively a Micro-ATX (or some larger Mini-ITX) case!

@@Silverstonetech Just bought this with an arctic liquid freezer iii 240 aio. I owned a GD08 and then GD09 before this. It's a great case guys, a real improvement. Moving the psu location away from the gpu intake and the extra room for the gpu is great. Installed a couple of Noctua NF-A8 fans for the rear. This case is using less fans than my old GD09 because of the smarter layout design. The addition of aio support means my cpu isn't thermal throttling any more which it with my old heatsink.The addition of aio support was a good design choice. Keep making HTPC cases, this fits under my tv in the living room great.

I was very tempted to get this, but I wanted a white case to match my setup. I wound up grabbing the bequiet lightbase 600 and placing it horizontally. Thanks for reviewing the 900. I would like to see silverstone add some different color options to match lighter themed living rooms.

Nice overview & build. For aircoolers may I suggest either of the two 135mm high dual towers from Thermalright. The slimmer & lighter of the two, the Silver Soul 135 cools my AMD Ryzen 5950X without issue in a 10 liter case. The thicker & heavier Peerless Assassin Mini could provide even more cooling potential if needed. They really should have been able to fit 92mm rear exhaust fans in a case this large.

Cool to see a HTPC build. When I built my HTPC with parts from my old gamer, I was so frustrated on how stupid many HTPC cases are, just like this case with the third fan hole blocked. What could possibly be the reason behind that?? HTPC's is one place where a optical drive makes sense to still have for playing dvds and blurays, and often the cases only have space for slim drives which is often slower and expensive. I ended up finding a Fractal Design Node 605 used, which is mostly decent but only has slim optical drive slot even though it could easily fit a full size one. The case also has a bezel to cover the front IO's when not used, but the USB reciever for my K400+ has bad signal unless sitting in the front so the bezel is open all the time. What were they thinking, doing these weird designs?? Also, HTPC cases tend to be extremely expensive considering how simple they tend to be. Probably because of the lower sale numbers, idk.

I have this same case, I'm currently running a full custom loop in it wiht two 240mm radiators, an Aquacomputer Ultitube D5 50mm reservoir cooling a direct die block 12900k and a full block and active backplate 3090 TUF. I solved the hot air recirculation issue by cutting a hole in the rear of the tv furniture that matches the rear of the case and blocking off the top "exhaust" grille forcing all hot air out the rear exhaust. But it still has trouble dealing with heat due to the far too restrictive dust filters, they need regular washings with dish soap and a tooth brush followed by drying with a hair dryer. I'm going to swap it out for another case in the near future.
@jonjohansen9461Ай бұрын
I ended up removing the filters and just buying magnetic dust filters instead, that are less restrictive

My favorite thing about this video is that you didn't use the newest most expensive cpu gpu fans or anything really. In my eyes it's something I could afford. I can't stand all the computer building KZbinrs that only use the top top top tier shit that unless you make $1m a year can't afford. Great build and I'm sure it will certainly perform awesome. Very weird case though.
@Tinyboyyy27 күн бұрын
Yeah, but I guess the reason is because they get paid for using those parts. GPU companies usually give their most expensive tier for them to build.

There are a few really good air coolers that will fit in that like the Thermalright Assassin Mini, and that is enough to cool something like the 5800X3D.
@Autumn_AbleАй бұрын
There's at least two good choices for air coolers in this: The Noctua NH-D12L (Chromax .Black preferably as the only other choice is their usual silver/beige) or the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 Mini (which comes in either black or white). Both have their advantages and disadvantages in comparison to each other.

I took this build one step further last year and fit a 7950X3D + ASUS 4090 TUF OC OG into mine. They key with this case IMO is to avoid using an AIO, instead, a Thermaltake PA 120 Mini fits in this easily with great thermals (especially if you also install side fans on intake as well).

What's better? PA mini on Noctua NH-D12L?
@aegiltech9 күн бұрын
@@smietniknautube I would say the PA. It has an extra heatpipe over the Noctua at the same weight which would generally mean it has a higher wicking capability. But best of all, its both cheaper and looks better than the D12L. I did replace the fan on mine with a A12x25 (so there goes the cost argument), but the stock fan seemed fine.

I built my HTPC in a GD09B. It's got a a 3600X with a downdraft air cooler (can't recall the model) and a 5700XT. Runs plenty cool and quiet. OK, there's no fancy system for managing cables. But please explain why it's needed. I suspect you can't, because it's not. Those entertainment units with a closed back are component killers. Remove the back, and you can access all the various cables, and the whole system can breathe. Some units might require adding some corner bracing to avoid racking, but creating air movement is worth that extra step. Don't ask for permission from other family members to do this; just do it. Odds are they won't even notice. But I'm not accountable for your results in that regard.

i'm using this case with 2x arctic p8 max for rear exhaust 6x T30s and an arctic liquid freezer 3 240 push pull with 4 or the 6 T30s. The cross beam that goes front to back for structural support does need to be modified a bit for the AIO and fan combo but worth doing. Silverstone does make rack ears that support this case and some others. My 5900x oc to 4875 runs 50c under gaming loads ( 70c under cinebench) and my Asrock 6800xt runs 50c to 60c depending on the game EDIT: i removed the hard drive cage on mine since i didn't need it
