So i very recently have started to believe. Ive been a harsh skeptic of all religion my whole life but recently something has changed inside me. I find myself thinking alot about Jesus christ. Its almost daily becoming an obsession. I've lived 20+ years with severe depression and anxiety but when i think of got it gives me a sense of calm. Ive been thinking of visiting my local church but im full with anxiety and finding it hard to muster up the confidence to go. God bless you all!

You don't *have* to go to Church. Its good to have Christian fellowship and important for fully growing the fruits of the spirit as a Christian. But equally you can devote more time to reading the Bible and watching limitless online sermons (Ligonier is great) than many people who will go to Church every week, but never put any other time to God. Smaller Bible studied might be an easier start, even online groups.

@@junkiedropouts3186 I've always studied religion and Christianity even when I was sceptical about it. And I lole to learn as much as I can, but I really do have a feeling inside me that is telling me I need to go to church... im extremely lucky to live close to wakefield Cathedral in the UK. I've seen the building nearly every day of my life, so it would be nice to go inside. I'm just very nervous... although it's a cathedral, I get the feeling that not many people visit it, unfortunately

@@TheEARofTRUMP You are right, not many people in the UK go to church nowadays, Christianity is nowhere near as popular as it was in the past. On Sundays it was generally seen as a "day of rest", but today people want to enjoy thier life and go out and do things. If you want to pray you can quite easily do that at home if that's your thing 🙂

God is NOT Santa Claus, here to give you everything you want. God is not a talisman against the evil eye. God is the creator and sustainer of the universe. He is righteous and holy and no one can hold Him libel for evil. Who can punish God? Your choosing not to exercise faith in Him will not punish Him, it will separate you from Him. God does righteous, holiness and justice. He loves us because His grace is immeasurable. God cannot change His nature and will not lower His righteousness to the unrighteousness of man instead He has sent Himself in the person of Jesus Christ to elevate our unrighteousness to His. “But God demonstrates His own love towards us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8. Jesus can lift you up if He has to reach waaaaay down.

With all due respect, I will provide an answer in place of Stuwart. If someone falls off a cliff and dies, should God be blamed for creating gravity? Natural disasters are consequences of a series of natural physical and logical phenomena. God should not be blamed because a mass of warm air encountered a low-pressure zone, or because tectonic plates are in motion. All these phenomena are important in the plan for the creation and maintenance of our planet, and the fact that humans get caught in disasters is just part of life. However, Jesus Christ challenged us to help our brothers and sisters in times of difficulty, such as during natural disasters. These are opportunities to show the love of Christ, practicing the fruit of the Spirit.
@zhand4117
@zhand4117 2 ай бұрын
I’d also say that natural disasters are a result of sin because of the fact that we have free will. But on that note, (like Cliffe was saying) if we’re forced to love, then it’s not love. So the same free will that we have that brought natural disasters forward, also allows us to be in a loving relationship with Christ. Without darkness, there can be no light. And to agree with you, those dark time are when the love of Christ is shown the brightest.

i get what the guys are saying. and yes, it sounds ridiculous that god is expected to be held responsible for the good stuff but not the bad. if you were married, and your spouse expected you to praise him/her for everything good that happened in the marriage, but the bad stuff was all your fault, you, provided you aren't a simp, would become extremely resentful of him/her.

For some reason, listening to this reminds me of some lyrics from the P.O.D. song "Higher" where the Chorus says: Higher, a place I've only imagined Higher, so farther than I've ever gone Higher, it'll all make sense when I get there All the things I know and the things I don't It's always been a big thing for me to hopefully spend time with Messiah just asking all of these questions about things we just don't know. Even about the things we do know or think we know. Hi there. I have bipolar type 2 and Adhd. i struggle with anxiety and depression also. I am a Christian women. The best way to know Jesus is to get a Bible that you can understand, start reading the new testament, realize that your sins seperate you from God, so God sent His Son Jesus Christ into this world to teach us how to please God, show us what God is truly like, and died a cruel death on a Roman cross. He paid the fine of your debt, which is death, and was buried, and God raised Jesus Christ back to life three days later. His disciples saw him alive after His death, a group of people around 500 saw Him alive after His Death. All you have to do is repent of your sins, turn away from your sinful lifestyle, and believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, believe that He died for you, ask Jesus to come into your life, and trust in Him for your salvation. Find a solid Bible believing church. I know that I was very nervous my first time. Get a Bible thats easy to read, talk to the Pastor about having a relationship with Jesus Christ. God bless you sister

I actually disagree with Stuart and Cliffe here that God does not "will" natural disasters. They are only disasters from OUR perspective. There is nothing inherently evil about forest fires. This gets to a very philosophical/theological point that would take a whole book to discuss, but it always makes me feel uneasy when Christians say things like "Humans are responsible for disasters like earthquakes because of their sin." God's knowledge goes beyond our basic understanding. Suffering does not equate to evil directly.

@@mirandahotspring4019 right. An example from our earthly perspective would be like taking a 4 year old to the dentist. Most 4 year olds do not have the capacity to understand the pain and discomfort of going to the dentist even though the suffering they endure is good for them in the long run. Maybe God willed for me to have my house burned down to put me in a better place. We mere mortals simply aren’t in a position to know.

@@josephtattum6365 Absolute nonsense and a stupid analogy. As a parent you encourage your child to practice good oral hygiene so a dental visit at age four should really only be a check up. If you've been a neglectful parent and dental work is required then the dentist has the resources to make it a painless experience for the child. If your house burned down I'm sure there is an explanation for it that does not require invoking the supernatural! So stupid that in this day and age people are still using god(s) as an explanation for anything! There are no gods!

I think you misunderstood him when he says “we messed up, from the very beginning” 13:40 I think his point is about how in the beginning God created everything and he saw that it was good, then after we sinned against him - God separated himself from the world and that allowed chaos and suffering to come into play. So yeah you’re right when you say“suffering does not equate to evil” but ULTIMATELY that is the cause.

For the “best interest in their well being” thing… wouldn’t most people, Christian and non Christian alike, at the very least somewhat agree that Jesus’s specific teachings if applied truly, would arguably lead to the best well being of individuals , society, and the world as a whole? In that case , with this world view , on a practical level you’re better off following Christ , or are you going to have the audacity to claim to have a better moral compass than arguably the most influential ethical teacher in human history? Okay, so we’re at least a step closer to the Lord. Now the question is, who is Jesus according to Himself and those that directly knew and met him? If He’s Lord of all creation, from which his genius ethics spring from, who says a day of judgment is coming but offers mercy through the cross , is life still just all about trusting what I deem the best for my and others well being? It isn’t. In fact , it’s eternally more vast and weighty. Jesus is Lord

Excellent question regarding natural disasters! Weather (including natural disasters) are the nature of nature in the cosmos. Spiritually immature Christians (which most Christians are) literally attribute weather (and its productive or destructive results) to God and should not. God lets nature do what it does (like He does with humans and their free will). In the new covenant, since humans can have a literal spiritual connection with Him while they're in human form, God is much less involved in the natural realm like He was prior to the new covenant. God is all knowing for current and past, but not future. He is aware of possibilities in the future and does have a plan for the future. If God knew the exact future, existence is predetermination (by Him, our Creator) and there is no free will. The cosmos is good, not perfect. Adversity is needed for deep growth. Also, even though Stuart could have done a much better job in that discussion, Stuart did an incredible job "pulling a Jordan Peterson to Cathy Newman" when Stuart asked him "why is it (natural disasters) so wrong?". The student was genuinely trying to respond but struggled mightily to. Hopefully this experience will be one where he looks more into Christianity with an open mind...and even C.S. Lewis.

For the student's question at the end of the video (e.g. humans before scripture existed, never heard/read scripture, etc), see Romans 2:12-16. Being made in God's image, humans have inherent awareness of God and His moral expectations, whether through the observation of nature (general revelation) or their internal moral conscience.

I think much more needs to be said on this topic. Our perspective is far too myopic to definitively ascertain whether something is good or bad. I guarantee in the moments when our Lord was suffering and being slayed on the cross, the disciples were saying “This isn’t just bad, this is the absolute worst!” In retrospect, do we define the event of the crucifixion as a bad thing? There’s a whole bunch of nuance to that, amen?

The Israelite assembly sent a peace delegation to the little remnant of Benjamin who were living at the rock of Rimmon. Then the men of Benjamin returned to their homes, and the four hundred women of Jabesh-gilead who were spared were given to them as wives. But there were not enough women for all of them. The people felt sorry for Benjamin because the LORD had left this gap in the tribes of Israel. So the Israelite leaders asked, “How can we find wives for the few who remain, since all the women of the tribe of Benjamin are dead? There must be heirs for the survivors so that an entire tribe of Israel will not be lost forever. But we cannot give them our own daughters in marriage because we have sworn with a solemn oath that anyone who does this will fall under God’s curse.” Then they thought of the annual festival of the LORD held in Shiloh, between Lebonah and Bethel, along the east side of the road that goes from Bethel to Shechem. They told the men of Benjamin who still needed wives, “Go and hide in the vineyards. When the women of Shiloh come out for their dances, rush out from the vineyards, and each of you can take one of them home to be your wife! And when their fathers and brothers come to us in protest, we will tell them, ‘Please be understanding. Let them have your daughters, for we didn’t find enough wives for them when we dest60royed Jabesh-gilead. And you are not guilty of breaking the vow since you did not give your daughters in marriage to them.'” So the men of Benjamin did as they were told. They kidnapped the women who took part in the celebration and carried them off to the land of their own inheritance. Then they rebuilt their towns and lived in them. So the assembly of Israel departed by tribes and families, and they returned to their own homes.

To explain why natural disasters, happen is a struggle for Christians just as it is for atheists. Going through the bible and seeing all the wonderful things God has done and then His desire to enter humanity to suffering alongside His creation and die on a cross is a sign that God does not will natural disasters. This is only speculation but when the fall happened sin ushered entropy into the world and as a result the earth is in disorder. But as Christians we wait for Revelation 21:1 "A new heaven and a new earth."

That’s your problem. God isn’t here to be a shop. You don’t just walk in and get what you want. You have to build a relationship with God. To do that, you have to do three things, read scripture, pray and attend church(surround yourself with other Christians living a faithful life) God is not here to get you a girlfriend. Ask yourself, would you date you? Have you acquired the skills and knowledge of a man that women are attracted to? My advice is to not seek anything from God, other than a relationship. And it’s up to you to make that bond.

I love God and this question is asked as respectively as possible but didn’t God ask Abraham to sacrifice his son? Disclaimer, I am studying the Bible but definitely not an expert. He didn’t want to and God stopped it from happening because it was a test but still, just curious….

Pastor Cliffes ultimate goal, is to get anyone saved! God came down to earth and became a man who is Jesus in the flesh! Jesus died on the cross and with His blood, washed away "all " of our sins! Eternal salvation! Faith! Pastor Cliff wants anyone to be saved. Read John 3:16 in the KJB/KJV ( for the KJB is the closest bible that has been written), and read John's passages and shows how to get saved! "It's not hard!" "Believe!" God wants us all to be with Him in Heaven and live for eternity! God doesn't want anyone to burn in the lake of fire and brimstone in hell! We don't know when our time is up! Get saved now so you don't have to worry what happens to you when you die! Just believe in God/Jesus and get saved now so you don't have to worry! God bless, with 🙏's and ❤️!

Whether anyone is 14 or older, it's not about your age. It's in fact a lot of time to do to say where the child shall lead them. It's not about the age. It's not even about the knowledge. It's about the wisdom. What you need to do is? Yes, study your scriptures, but you need to pray to God and ask God. What he wants you to do. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you in what you should do. It's I guarantee you, if you're at the grocery store or they're 1415 a 100 doesn't matter your age. If you're meant to witness to someone at the grocery store about God's love, it'll happen for you. God will put you in that place. If you are meant to witness somewhere else God will put you in not place. He'll give you that understanding and wisdom of what to say and do, but you have to pray for that ask for that seek wisdom. Just like they did in the Bible. And when you're familiar with those scriptures, will there be job or Abraham? Or Solomon etc, you'll see how they receive their gifts from God and why they received their gifts from God. And it's all by God's timing and God's design. No matter what you do, always do it to the glory of God and know that he loves you. He's there for you and his answer is not always gonna be quick. Sometimes he makes you wait a long time for an answer. Sometimes you get it instantaneously and it's not always the answer. We want to hear, but he will answer you. God bless you and your journey.

There is so much to learn to "properly" witness and to be able to answer any question. However, just being able to reflect the love of God is the most important aspect. If nothing else, have an answer to "Why Jesus?" His resurrection sets up all of Christianity. There is still so much I don't know but I do know Christ is real, rose from the dead, and is Lord. All the rest are little details. Good luck on your journey and may God prepare you in whatever you might need!

Even if I knew my own children grew up to destroy half of humanity and proceed to try the control the world, I would still have my children. And I would still love and care forther. 's love or a father's love succeeds. Almost everything that your children do mind you. You don't keep them from the consequences if you still completely love them. Cause love does not mean shielding them. Love means allowing them to make their mistakes and face the consequences of their decisions. But nevertheless I would have my children. I would never get in abortion. I would never avoid my children's birds. I would never avoid the conception of my children. I would have my children and I would love them even if they do turn out to be the most evilless being in the entirety of the universe. I would still love my children.

‭Romans 2:12-16 NIV‬ [12] All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. [13] For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. [14] (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law. [15] They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them.) [16] This will take place on the day when God judges people’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.

interesting listening to Stuart talking about pornography, would Christians be in favor of a total ban on all forms of porn, esp on the internet?, i don't seem to hear many Christians calling for such a ban. @gatehouse5209
@gatehouse5209 4 ай бұрын
That's a very odd statement. I don't really see it as a question as the Church has been preaching the awful sinfulness of pornography and its detriment to the spirit and soul since it's conception and more so for a decade or more. As this nation has called pornography a protected medium under the Constitution, it would be difficult to have it overturned or "banned". I think you also error in judging people's hearts when you can't possibly know their hearts.

@@gatehouse5209 So are you in favor of internet porn being protected under the constitution? I seem to recall recent Supreme court judges being asked about a womans right to choose when asked about abortion rights, all of them said it was settled law under the constitution in their confirmation hearings, giving the impression they would not overturn it, yet when they were confirmed they overturned it, against the majority opinion of the American people. I don't think it's an odd question at all, when Christians refer to "sinning" quite often they are, as you call it, referring to lusting and sexual matters. Do you think when a teenager is looking at porn that they are committing adultery in their heart, even though they are not married. Trying to stop people having lustful thoughts is like trying to turn back the tide, .. it's one of life's free pleasures 🙂

I think Scripture makes a very solid statement about pornography without anyone necessarily consenting it to be interpreted in that way. Banning a sinful act in church, either in group or personally doenst make any improvement even how hard its being preached. Who can change it in person is Holy Spirit. Approximating to God is the main point. Then such question you got will be solved as well.

I am reading the Bible, God does not just love everyone. So many times the bible says God will love you IF... well if he loves everyone, why is the word IF added to those passages? Examples: God loves you IF you love him God loves you IF you keep his commandments. The Bible says that we are part of God. Jesus says we mist be in him and he in us... also says we are all one body, the body of Christ... how is that not part of God? As for God humbling himself... how did he become his son? How does he sit at his own right hand, why can't Jesus and the Holy Spirit be on earth at the same time? If he is the Holy Spirit then he is on the earth at the same time.... but yet he had to leave so that the Holy Spirit could come. No Christian can lice out what they believe, they can get some things right, but not everything God is not all good, read the Bible. God created everything knowing that we would do evil, so he knew there would be bad, he knew that we would sin, God created everything, including suffering and sin. He created the Devil knowing what he would do, God can not be all good if he created evil and sin. If he didn't know what would happen then I would agree he didn't create sin and evil, but because he knew it would happen, he created it.
