After listening to Stuart Fillinghams reviews, I purchased my Intercepted the week before Christmas and could not be happier. I have owned over 14 motorcycles over the last 40 years from Hondas to Harleys, Ironhorse Chopper, several Triumphs and a Moto Guzzi, Ducati Multistrada and several Japanese bikes to name a few. I'm at an age in my life where I just want to go for a ride.....I don't want a key Fob or mode switch, I just want to jump on a classic and go for a ride. Northern California is made for this and I utilize as many back roads as I can. The price was incredibly low for a this Interceptor 650 and truly the best motorcycle deal I have ever made. I've already started to add accessories and upgraded the mufflers to the S&S slip ons which made the bike sound perfect. Not too loud, just the throaty rumble that makes me smile when I back of the gas.

I'm a 66 year old American and I grew up in the era when a Triumph 650cc Bonneville and a 883cc Harley XLCH were considered the fastest bikes around and the ones everybody wanted. I remember seeing small black and white ads for RE Interceptors in magazines but never saw one in person back then even though I lived in a fairly large city, San Diego, CA. I ended up owning Triumphs, Harleys, and assorted Japanese bikes, but to this day I still feel the old series 1 & 2 Interceptors are the best looking bikes of that era. I'm happy to see RE bringing back the Interceptor and I'm considering getting one actually. If I could change something on the new models I would of course want a kick starter added (I'm old school) and I would gladly pay another $100 for the bikes if they would do away with the flange around the gas tank, but other than those two relatively minor things it's a beautiful bike. I've owned much bigger and faster bikes but in the end I have to say my favorite bike I've ever owned was a '66 Triumph Bonneville, fast, nimble, and handled nice. Let me add one more thing, nice honest review, thumbs up!

I really like my interceptor. The only issues I have with it are: - Both gauges get very noticeable condensation in cold weather. This seems very common and must be down to excessive humidity when they were built and sealed. - It would be nice to have a clock, even if it was not visible all the time and was just an option you could cycle through to on the LCD screen. A gear indicator would also be nice but not essential. -The C spanner in the factory toolkit is the most hopeless tool I have come across. It's stamped shape seems almost deliberately designed to want to ride out of the rear shock slots and damage their aluminium adjusting ring. I don't know how they got this so wrong.
@frodobaggins28523 жыл бұрын
Yes you are right for the most... India is humid...where it is manufactured.... And recently royal enfield collabbed with google to create a turn by turn navigation system and connected features for their new 350cc cruiser called meteor and also updated their 400cc offroader himalayan with the same updated consoles... So it might make its way into the 650 twins as well.

Kwaks W650/800 recreation of their own take on a 65 Beezer, was arguably a more authentic bike than any Bloor Triumph, and also this RE (being manufactured by the same manufacturer of the original, so to speak) and is a superb machine, but jeez it's expensive, even used This RE hits the spot because of its price point, right in there with the Guzzi 750 retros I'm holding my wallet until I see what happens with less restrictive pipes and filters etc, Ideally I'd like 55 to 60 hp

I'm considering the w800 but the price on this one is something to think about. The dealership availability is an issue as I've never seen a Royal Enfield dealer. The Kaw is pretty sweet and I actually know someone who has one that I drool over. Too bad my present bike (a 2013 NC700X) is still in great but two bikes are almost necessary, right? And, I'd like to have three for a nice balance. Just have to move further south to enjoy them more. Presently in the top of The Peoples Republic of Illinois.

Great review Stuart. I went to view the bike at a dealer in East London, there was none available and not even a demonstrator could be offered. Demand for them has by far outstripped supply and the waiting list is now exceeding three months.

This really is an excellent comprehensive review thank you Stuart - Surely the Interceptor has to be on anyone’s radar that’s in the market for a new classic retro at such an attractive price. Maybe that 3 year unlimited mileage warranty will stir up the competition to follow suit? It certainly should... If you go ahead and add one to the stable, l and many others will be keeping a keen eye on your future related productions l’m sure...!

I enjoy your videos very much. I've been to the local dealer here in Tucson, AZ USA several time to try to talk myself into the 650 instead of the Classic 350. But it always comes down to three turn "offs" of the 650. One is the sweep up pipes and two the cheap looking and feeling seat and the height of the seat. The first is the main deal breaker for me. The pipes put in mind of a modern "crotch rocket" not a "classic bike". I'm 70 years old and I've owned bikes on and off since 1973 out of all the ones I've had, the Yamaha 650 (1976) is the one I have fond memories of. When I saw your videos of the Classic 350 and the Meteor I was excited! I went down to check them out. I must say that the Royal Enfield Classic 350 got me dreaming of a slow run thru the desert. I'm not looking for speed, but a bike that I look forward to spending a lazy afternoon on. Maybe RE will come out with a more "classic" look for the 650. So for now My Christmas present to myself is the Royal Enfield Classic 350. Thanks again for all the awesome videos you share with us, Chuck from Tucson, AZ USA

Well, what a surprise! My experience with Royal Enfield has been limited to the 1960s when British bikes were the best. However, at that time my opinion, and that of my friends, was that they were unreliable, much worse than BSA, but not nearly as much fun. It was Triumph Bonnevilles and Norton Atlases for us, and an occasional Matchless. While it doesn't sound like this bike will win any impromptu street races, at least it sounds like it will spend more time on the road than in the garage. And at an affordable price.

Great review of the motorcyle. Im tempted to go and ride one myself. After clocking 15.000 kilometers on my Classic 500 it may be time for an upgrade. All the problems on the Classic models are down to high vibrations at higher speed, nog due to build quality. I think Royal Enfield has a winner at hand.

Hi Scott, I´m in a similar situation as you were (screening websites for my first motorcycle), so my only concern is if it is too powerful for a beginner rider (I drove a couple of 200cc/250cc bikes, but never had one). What about the throttle? do you consider very risky to make a rookie mistake creating a difficult situation? or wouldn´t be "that easy" to be in trouble if you are carefully enough? (I don´t care about speed, I like neo-classics just for riding) I´ve read that even when you drive safely (or try to) the engine is big so dangerous and from there comes the doubts I have. Thanks for your advice. Have a nice ride!!

I am a Honda guy. Became interested in the REs a while back. Was bugging the local and not so local Indian dealers in my area for about 2 and a half years, waiting, waiting, waiting, to see a Conti 650 on the floor, finally rode down to a dealership on the shore, they told me we’re out of the RE business and wanted me to look at Scouts, the excuse they gave me about getting out of the RE business didn’t seem to add up, two weeks later, on a Friday night as I was getting into bed, my iPhone binged, it was an email from my Honda dealer telling me they just became an RE dealer and had the Conti on the floor, ready to ride, I raced over the following day and plunked down my cash and got me my white 2019 Conti, my niece promptly named the bike “Snowball,” a perfect name for this sweet ride. Great bike for all riders old and new. Nice video!

Thank you for a well balanced, informative and down to earth review. Thoroughly enjoyed it! You've correctly zoomed in on the fact that this bike is positioned in the 'Classic' genre, with traditional 60's engineering - nowhere has RE tried to be pretentious in stating its capability. I'm so glad you've swat back the frankly ridiculous claims of some riders. It is not and is not meant to be a 'performance' bike. It's an excellent back-to-basics motorcyle meant for the biker who rides for the sheer joy of doing so, at leisure, for pleasure.

My 2003 FZ1 would accelerate flawlessly from 30 mph in 6th gear. I could ride it like it had an automatic transmission and found it lazy good fun. With just a tick under 130hp at the rear wheel it was good for 30 to 150 mph without shifting gears. I do admit to installing an aftermarket jet kit to fix an outrageous factory engineered lean surge at low speed and that helped alot. I lust for this bike. I learned to ride on a BSA 650 Firebird Scrambler and love the look, sound and feel of this class of motorcycle. I just don't need FZ level horsepower anymore and the handling of the Interceptor will be more than I will ever use. Thanks for the great review.
