@@StuccoPlastering I did it! I got the job finished. You would laugh, but it meets the spec, more or less. WoW was that a load of hard work. I was laughing at how hard it was. Going to the ground, picking up a couple pounds of wet sand, lifting it up onto my step stool, then having to reach up and really press the stuff in. Repeat like a dozen times. I was sooo tired afterwards! Shoulda paid the guy his $800. That was a lot of work. Just needs paint now. I took my time and did nice and neat around the electrical box. Clean. Texture doesn't match but it's all even with the wall and got a good float.

I live in a newer home in Las Vegas and my question is compared to homes in the southeastern part of the country? Why is it that the main power cable from the street cones up out of the ground, through the foundation and inside the exterior wall; rather than just run the conduit on the outside of the house? I do find it neater and nicer looking. The other question is, why circuit breakers outside and inside on the panel boxes?

My friends and I call you the stucco god. Thanks for the vids. Also, What would you charge or bid that job at now that it’s 2021? Also Do you use a particular formula when biding jobs like this. For example per square foot or what do you use and recommend. Thanks
@StuccoPlastering3 жыл бұрын
Evening Ronnie, In the Oakland area, about 75 to 100 dollars a Square-yard go across the Bay Bridge into San Fransisco they charge around 150 to 200 a square yard. 🤔 What does this fact mean to me? 😉 Absolutely nothing, zilch, nada.🤷♂️ As I'm not selling carpet from a shop, I have never come across the same job, ever, there are always differences, such as say this one, It's high up in the Oakland hills, and murder on my truck, the work is in a dangerous place, Hell, my brother Luuuu can get squished by another reckless drive, then I'd have to stop what I was doing and thank the driver.😀 FYI, I can look at any home and guess the yardage with my time in and be close by about 20 yards, Again what does this mean to me? I then know how much to calculate for materials, that's all.🍻 I bid on jobs based on my eyeball theory; I know how long each project will take me. Thus I bid my plasterers and hod carriers time and materials and think, how much do I want to make on this repair. Or how much are my 35 plus years of application time and material knowledge worth, with a lifetime warranty?🧗🏼♂️ Hope this helps brother, all quality tradesmen should know the value of their time, combined with ethics and morals for guarantees and great workmanship. As long as I have been doing this, we have always left a job cleaner than we found it. Cheers, my friend.🕺🏻

Hey Kirk! I have a similar type issue I could use some guidance on. I'm in Florida and my house is made of cinder block covered in stucco. I had to chip away some stucco to replace a water hose spigot. The builder had attached the spigot (with a self tapping screw) directly to the cinder block then when they applied the stucco, they covered the base of the waterhose bib. You can imagine as the hose wiggled around over years of use, the stucco around it cracked and was damaged. The pipe is flexible and I can easily pull it forward, apply stucco behind the bib, let it dry, then screw the hose bib with self tapping screws through the stucco and into the cinder block. (It seems that this would still cause the stucco to crumble though as the hose is used over the years.) Or, I could do it the way the builder did it originally. Can you offer some guidance on the best way to do this?
@StuccoPlastering2 жыл бұрын
Sikaflex Polyuartan caulking 1A, just don't get it on your hands, tough stuff that will last years and can be painted. Use a putty knife and be clean as you pass the steel over it to look pretty when done. Or you can use More-Flexx caulking, not as strong but much easier to use and match stucco finishes when painted.🍾

I have a related question I hope you can answer. I had to remove the stucco from my home because of rotted studs. The last section left to take out is behind the electric main panel-- that has a 2" pole and masthead for the overhead city cables. Pole rises about ten feet, anchored to the house every 2 feet with clamps and butterfly bolts. There is also an insulated wheel, ten feet up, that secures the service neutral to the house, which supports the service lines to the pole. How do you guys deal with this situation when applying new stucco. I'm thinking in particular about how to keep the feed pole and neutral cable secured, while still being able to get stucco behind the securing clamps????

Good morning Thi, as a rule, no, however, If I run out of Sika-flex 1A, I'll be forced to improvise with either peal and sticks or whatever caulking I have on my truck. I should never have silicons on my truck as a rule. They are more for glass such as aquariums, bathtubs, car windows, and such. I might have them at home. But, of course, there is always the possibility that one tube sneaks out from my garage and onto our truck just to hang out with the polyurethane tubes.😉

Didn't mention the basics of flashing around the electrical box (or windows or any cutouts) i.e. start at the bottom and work your way up on the sides then do the top last. New paper or flashing, try to get behind existing paper or waterproofing to start and working you way up. What new flashing he couldn't get behind the existing paper, he sealed the seams or overlaps with quality caulking. Any water intrusions will now sheet or runoff the new flashing and existing paper without running behind and onto the woodwork/framing.
