Hello everyone! This video shows you how to repair this nasty-looking stucco around this window. Unfortunately, there are quite a few incorrect textures here.
We used rapid-set stucco with Mor-Flexx caulking.
We offer expert advice on repairing your stucco holes, cracks, and mismatched textures.
It’s easy to fix some stucco textures; as a rule, you can fix them.
In this video, all of these simple repairs are merely cosmetic.
By watching this simple method of repairing stucco holes around old windows, where the walls have settled, and thus cracked or buckled.
You can learn they can be fixed or repaired with the same methods shown here.

Just wanted to stop by again and say thanks to you and Jason. I don't think I could have tackled the stucco repair on my garage without your help. On my channel is a little video of my garage -- any white that you see is fresh CTS rapidset stucco where there used to be a hole. The stucco on my 100 year old house/garage seems to be nothing like the homes you work on. 2" thick cement over lath with formed cement beams that tie into wood frame. No water barrier at all.

Kirk, thanks for the tip. The Rapid Set Mortar Mix bonds and hardens much better than regular mortars I have used in the past, but as you pointed out, it really requires at least two people -- if it is getting hard on the wall, remains in your mix bucket are just as hard. There is no way to stop the cure as with non-hydraulic cement by filling the mix bucket with water. Time to recruit a helper from the family. Love the videos, keep 'em coming. Mike

Since it was too hot for my helper, I had to find a way to work with rapid set myself. The answer I found was to mix 1 hawk full at a time in a kitchen trash bag with ice water. When mixed, cut bag and squeeze it out. I doubled my productivity as the mix flowed and stayed workable for 10 minutes in 90 degree heat with no mixing cleanup. Getting the mix right seems to be half the battle. Having done this stuccoing, I appreciate even more what a great job you guys do. Mike

I wish I could have you at my home for a couple hours to teach me how to match my finish. We just bought our first home! Unfortunately, there is definitely some areas that need some work. I am a bit timid about the idea of DIY but budget will end up forcing me. Matching the previous texture is what has me the most worried. Watching all your videos has been helping my confidence. Good morning mjdmtlakes, it’s very rare for me to try doing any of the work I get by myself for this reason. A good tip though is to keep a couple buckets full with clean water as well as determining a wash out spot well in advance to starting a project. As a follow-up, I had a chance to speak with CTS, the makers of the Rapid Set Mortar Mix. They did confirm that their product may spontaneously set if the mix and water temperature are too high. My Home Depot has finally restocked the the set and flow control additives from CTS and so I can finally get some. Last, they recommended their Stucco Mix as it the same as the mortar mix, but has retardants already in it for 30-40 minutes of work time. Stucco mix is not stocked by Home Depot. Mike

Appreciate your Vids Kirk..Plastering trade in Phoenix Az is dying lots of work not enough plasters we're always short on Man power every contractor here I'm a commercial Supt ..but I've noticed you don't mask your windows much can't really tell with camera if frames are getting stained and dirty..or glass ..and as for scraping or chipping you forget to mention to your viewers to use an old trowel .. especially stainless steel trowels .. chipping with the heel of the trowel like that will ruin your trowel and can't be used for smooth finishes..nor mesh or base ..your a great Plaster Kirk keep your videos posting hopefully our trade will stay alive for long time 👍

Howdy Jesus, good tips, I find when I use the heal of my trowel, it does not tweak the center. I do have a video that explains how to fix a bent trowel, so I'm the last guy who will jack up a trowel, although in this video it does indeed look like I'm, abusing my poor trowel. Thank you, very informative! I have an unusual situation. My folks' house, a ranch style home, has a brick front and the sides and back are stucco. Also, there is stucco above the garage door opening (facing the house, it's to the right as you look at house). I need to repair the stucco area that is above the garage door opening and between brick facing. Kinda hard to describe but over the years (the house is 50 years old), my dad just kept caulking there (above the garage, on the vertical) where the stucco (that is above the garage door, about a 12' x 3' area). I got up there today to dig out the old caulk and I have quite a gap where the stucco should meet the brick. there's some empty space in behind there, I think I can squirt in expanding foam to close the area, but not sure how to fix the stucco to brick junction enough where I'd just need caulk.....thank you.

You might want to try some concrete caulk at Home Depot: __ www.homedepot.com/p/Red-Devil-10-1-oz-Masonry-and-Concrete-Repair-Caulk-0646/202261765 __ One of the tricks I've used is to squeeze the caulk into the crack, then take handfuls of sand and rub it into the crack over the caulk. In the old days, one could buy sanded caulk at Home Depot.

Howdy Quantum Roft, good tip from GSMF, they do sell sanded caulking called mor-flexx for stucco by now perhaps ten other brands too for walls, the tile caulking has sand it it too a bit fine for matching stucco exteriors but it is there hiding in the tile department. If you pull out the existing caulk and the hole look like a passage to China perhaps the expanding foam is the way to go, fill wait until the next day shave off the exterior mushrooming that this product creates then apply the caulking over this foam, cheers to both of you guys, kirk giordano Rendering

I think I have answered my own question from your rapid set video where you show the CTS Rapid Set Mortar Mix bag (vs Eisenwall). I am using this on my garage and find it to be a tricky product especially in the heat. It can set in 1 minute after mixing. Since it bonds so well and cures underwater, any advice on cleaning it out of your mixing bucket? For a one-man job, doesn't seem to be enough time to do everything needed.

When fixing a crack in plaster you always say it will crack again and its just a cosmetic fix, however do you know what kinda timeline fixing a crack with caulking gives you? Like 6 months before it will crack again or like 6 years?

Hi- I recently caulked a leaking window (horizontal rain!) and had it leak again.. what kind of caulk would you suggest for a stucco wall in Arizona? We get the shade all morning on this wall, and then extreme heat in the day/evening so it takes a lot of abuse. I have used a caulk that you can apply to wet materials, since more rain was coming.. it has worked on other windows in the past, but not this time!

Kirk, does it matter which Rapid Set mix you use for these kinds of repairs? I am pretty sure Home Depot carries at least 3 varieties and I checked the manufacturer's website and they make 20 varieties!

I am seeing bubbling on various spots near the foundation of my house. I scrapped the bubbles with my hammer, and it crumbled apart like sand. Is the part that I am seeing crumble the top or brown layer? The layer below that top layer looks like cement board. Is what I am seeing the first layer or cement board? The house was built in 1972 and heavily remodeled in 1979. I live in Norther California.

I was wondering how to fix a crack above a widow ware a patio cover was installed. they had to remove the top Styrofoam trim piece. the patio leger is right ware the trim use to be. however there is a 1 inch gap below the leger to the top of the window. whats the best way to patch it?

Morning Mike Smart, if it were me I would use the best Polyurethane caulking available, yes this caulking is a drag to clean up as it's can't just be cleaned with just soapy water, but this is what I would do. O'yea, if if starts to sag as too much caulking will, allow the first caulking to set then the next day add more. best wishes, kirk Giordano

Hello Kirk. Great videos and everyone already remarked how professional you are. Question: Southern California with stucco wall. Location of issue: wall on top of what used to be a brick planter. I removed that plants, and the remaining soil does not have moisture in it. One area that pealed when the planter was there (and still pealed) seems ‘dark’ wet in the morning, but in the afternoon it goes back to a lighter stucco color. I am puzzled. Can an area of stucco that was once wet still go through color changing phases throughout the day due to cold temperature in the morning and wormer temperature in the afternoon? Thanks.

Evening Hai Nguyen, most of the exterior caulking I use are polyurethanes but they are a drag to clean up but they last the longest. (Polyurethanes caulkings don't usually shrink when dried) If you want simple and easy to clean (soap and water) Dow makes their 35 year acrylic latex caulking, I mainly use this for interiors but big gaps will take to attempts as it shrinks.. I would use a paint scraper or old wood chisel to chip off loose plaster.

Evening LeeAnn Allen, my son's and I have over 600 videos at this time on this channel, hopefully if you need advice on an area of concern that you may experience's on you home, you won't continue with your obvious concern of safety glasses. After raising five kids and over 30 plus years in business, I'd say I've paid my do's and will decide what I wish to wear or choose not to. Howdy Thomas, sorry, no. as color coats applied over an eight-inch think crack like dropped eggs, plus no one can color match a cementitious color within a cementitious color and expect the colors to match. 🍾

Quality plastering walls so-so, where armirovachnaya mesh? For your climate can and will go, but not for Russia to temperature changes from +30 to -45. cheap repair in five minutes.I think something that sticks out from the wall to the left of the window (upper right corner) through a Goth fall off, there are already visible signs of repair or it starts to crack?

Kind of horrifying how easy this is to do the RIGHT way when you know what you're doing, but when you don't you end up making the problem worse. Folks, make sure you meet with more than one contractor and you can bet the one that knows what he's doing is going to give you a real education while they bid your project and probably not be the cheapest. If you go cheap, you get your cracked stucco fixed with interior plaster and a cascade of problems later.
