Howdy, guys, and gals. In this video, Jason and I show you how to remove some exterior stucco and repair the lath due to a car hitting this wall. Simple home repairs if you have the know-how.
Using plywood instead of drywall or sheetrock will significantly improve repairing any stucco holes that once had drywall or sheetrock.
There is a reason why this frail system of using drywall for exterior sheathing is no longer used. The sheetrock was and still is too soft.
Often, hitting the nails or tacking the stucco nettings on with staple guns damages the soft paper lining of the drywall.
You can use the stucco you choose for exterior stucco patches like this.
I used Portland cement mixed with three times the amount of sand.
A three-to-one ratio.
The painting should be done at least 28 days after the stucco has been cured.
However, there is same-day stucco, such as Rapid set stucco.
Sold at Home Depot.

Good morning Arti, thanks for the kind words, I started using a swimming pool trowel when I was applying mud to interior cove ceilings a long time ago, and liked the way it left no trowel lines. A lot of people don’t understand this about trades. Like Tile. People think its as easy as just installing the tile. They don’t know the products. They don’t know the tricks. They’ve probably had little experience laying out rooms. The list goes on. (Not to mention the cost of tools) Then they still end up calling someone like me to fix it cause their shower failed or there’s already cracks. That or they bought a fast acting grout and the stuffs cured on the face of the tile. This list goes on too. If you are competent enough to figure stuff out. I a suggest you watch more than one yt video as well as talk to someone who knows what they are doing.

Hey Wind0wPain, I have in the past completed 10 of these dashes, with abalone shells, different rocks glass, and various mixes, but we have only been doing videos for about 3 years my last aggregate dash finish was 10 years ago. The biggest problem with these finishes is finding all the correct shells, stones and such to match the homes. I have done tunnel dash finishes videos. Thanks for the question and have a great day! Howdy Andy, not a question I can answer, as some will cut corners and charge a fortune while others may do it properly and charge even less. It depends on the person. I will say, Usually, the licensed professional is cheaper than the inexperienced handyman for too many reasons to list here.💃

I realize this is an old video. I just came across this video because I was researching videos for repairing stucco, or leaks under the stucco. Kirk you do great work and I wish you well in your business. My problem is minor, but it's amazing the number of guys that "had the solution" like crawling under the house into the crawl space, when there is no crawl space, and install a French drain system , to painting over the wall with special paint. None of the solutions would solve my problem. The water is running down the wall and up under the stucco and onto the sill plate. I finally found a guy to fix my problem. Thanks for sharing your great videos. PS yep, I am now subscribed.

Morning Kenneth, glad you found the problem. I have seen this many times, usually caused by the weep or drip screed set to high, not covering the mudsill or exterior sheathing by at least one inch. Kirk, I have a let's said a 6" wide (varies)up to 8" and by about 5 feet in length that the stucco is bubbling and need to repair it, is the back wall of my house, how much more or how many inches more should I tear down to make sure the repair is successful?

Hi Tony, depend on many things. If it's the old wood lath, just the amount separating from the walls is enough. If it's lath with paper and wire enough to properly tie the new paper and wire in.

Good afternoon Zeta, I like your style, I would say i were them because the future so bright I gotta wear shades but that line was used in a song already. Truth is dust, and the cement sometimes when I'm plastering the cement pushes down a wire and when my trowel goes over it it flings it back up just a tiny dot or a grain of sand and sometimes lands in my eye, have one in there right now the doctors say is a floater and can't be removed, bugs the hell out of me as it sometime blocks my vision, like windshield wipers on a car windshield. That was brilliant Kirk but do you have to make it seem so easy - it may lure me into trying to fix my own stucco problems. I have some holes in an exterior structure so there's no insulation to worry about. Would it be possible to spray in some foaming Great Stuff or similar product for backing and then patch over that without messing with drywall or plywood?

bro that is not how you do that it could be done like that buit not the correct way. PS drywall is for inside not outside. Use DENSGLASS fibertape in stucco

@@mikecrehan9659 it had gypsum in it to begin with, I matched what was there, homes in 1950 to 1960 also had gypsum board, it was a horrible idea, thus changed to line wire to paperback reinforced stucco netting up to 1980 when the new code call for the almighty plywood substrates. Often I will match origins when we patch stucco. Type repairing stucco walls with gypsum boards as sheathing.😉

I’m a carpenter in the central tx always like to watch informative videos that I can learn from even if I already know what I’m doing. I’m not a stucco guy but I am a framing and drywall guy acoustical ceiling guy. The type of sheet rock they put on the exterior of a building is dens glass not the white board you would put on the interior it would just crumble over time dens glass is terrible to work with it has strands of fiberglass in it itchy as hell

I see you're using a stapler. For a patch I'm doing, I removed nails with wads that were holding the old stucco. Are nails with wads unnecessary? Can I just use staples like you? Is the bond between the new stucco and the old stucco going to be strong enough if I clean the edges well enough and use an adhesive?

@@personalaccount4360 You can use furring nails or staples, the idea is to get 7/8 of the leg into the stud for sheer strength, as far as adhering a clean jagged edge works much better than a saw cut edge. As a rule we hit our edges with a bonding agent. I prefer Larson’s Weld-Crete.

Same as thin set and grout mix. you cant mix to much, bc it causes friction, friction makes heat and cause it to set up inconsistent and Super super fast. alot of time before you get it out the bucket

Hello, my friend, You can use the stucco of your choice. I use portland cement mixed with three times the amount of sand. A three to one ratio. The painting should be done after at least 28 days after the stucco has cured. However, there is same-day stucco such as Rapid set stucco. Sold at Home Depot.

Good Evening Green, if one has a good tie in with new wire to old or applies a bonding agent a perimeter crack should not happen, but if it does a bit of caulking corrects this prior to painting. In fact Best wishes, Sharing stucco secrets and or common sense plastering tips

@@StuccoPlastering When you say caulking, are you referring to something like, 10oz Quikrete Stucco Repair, a tube of textured caulking that is sanded and can be textured like their fast set Stucco repair. To use it on a crack do you prepare it like you would any other stucco crack?
