I find it funny how people constantly complain that the 4Runner TRD PRO has a lot of old features, but it holds its value better than BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Jaguar, or Range Rover.
@KTMcaptain6 жыл бұрын
theylied1776 someone doesn’t understand how resale value works. BMW leases a lot of vehicles. When businesses lease vehicles for their employees, as a benefit, they don’t buy the car afterwards. Combine that with private leases returned and you have a lot of used vehicles with a few buyers. So they drop the price to entice more purchasers. Basic supply and demand. Too much supply and not enough demand. This is why the M series hold their values extremely well while the non M variants don’t. Toyota purchasers typically hold onto vehicles longer (a lot due to the perceived notion that they are more reliable). This means there are fewer used Toyota vehicles on the market compared to those buying Toyota and wanting a good deal. Lastly, buyers looking for the best tech will be more likely to purchase based off planned obsolescence. If you think BMW cares... they don’t. They want people to buy their cars like iPhones.
@theylied17766 жыл бұрын
@@KTMcaptain What are you babbling about? When did I bring up leasing a vehicle? My comment is purely about resale. Depreciation starts the moment you drive any vehicle off of a lot, Toyotas hold their value better than any car manufacturer.
@KTMcaptain6 жыл бұрын
theylied1776 you brought up residual resale value. Maybe you should reread your own comment. Lol. Pathetic. That “babbling” you referred to was an explanation of car resale values. You’re obviously too simple to understand the basic mechanics of it. You made the connection between BMW and Toyota, or did you already forget that already. Resale value is based off what someone is willing to pay. If there are few sellers, then buyers have little choice.

I think the simple old school interior is actually a selling point for the Runner. It gives people who want simple, tried and true reliable technology an option. I believe the interior matches the exterior, power train and body on frame construction, being that it keeps the truck as simple and as technologically free as possible so that there aren’t anywhere near as many things to break or fail years to come, and that’s what consumers of the 4Runner love about it. That’s why the 4Runner is wanted. If they updated the interior with a bunch of new tech, it would start to lose its heritage and it would lose the consumer base that appreciates it as much as they do, including myself. I bought mine because it was simple and there isn’t much tech that can fail, especially compared to any of its cross shopped competitors

@@sonictech1000 Yes, I'd be willing to pay for that. To my mind the TRD Off-road Premium should have the Limited goodies with the TRD hardware. If you don't want to pay for it, then just get the TRD Off-road. Now there's a case that the people who would buy the Pro don't care for the luxuries so that's fair enough. For me, I'm looking into getting the Limited in white or dark grey and then putting the beefing it up. I won't be doing extreme off roading (i'd rather bike), so I can get away with not have 4-low. Awesome review! You're giving up on crawl control too quickly though, if you really want to test its limits. You can seem completely stuck beyond the help of crawl control, but if you let it sit and work for a few minutes (not seconds) somehow it eventually works the truck out as if by witchcraft. It can be quite confounding to watch- for what can seem like forever you'll see no visible progress, and then eventually, with no other noticeable change, somehow you're climbing up, out, over and onward again.

Awesome video. I have a 2013 4Runner Trail with the KDSS and CRAWL control. The one thing I've learned about the CRAWL system... You need to give it more time to work than you think. I was showing off my 4Runner, clad with Goodyear DuraTracs, to some friends in some heavy snow. I tried to plow throw some deep, super heavy snow and found myself pushing snow over the hood and high centering the truck. The snow was at least 4 feet deep, and none of us could open a door. I tried everything I could to reverse out, but I couldn't get it to move. I switched to 4-LO, put it in reverse, and actived CRAWL control. With all the crazy noises, the truck didn't budge for at least 10-15 minutes. Then all of a sudden, it started to inch its way back. Another few minutes went by with the truck slowly pulling itself out. When it finally gained traction, it literally shot itself out of the hole we were in and sent us back to where we came from. It was the most amazing thing I've seen a vehicle do. I love this truck more than most people.

Way to go, Stephen! TFL is known for real-world tests, but this is the "real deal" of real-world tests. Slick rock (which really isn't slick at all) and sandy gravel are interesting, but your hydro line is much more like the kind of terrain that off-roaders will encounter in most of North America. Nice to see your dad behind the wheel and behind the camera because you know that Motoring TV would never even attempt this! (I hope Toyota doesn't pull the plug on you)

EVERY OTHER VEHICLE REVIEW “uh, not enough soft touch, needs Apple Car Play, 0-60 is a meager 6.5sec, only gets 27mpg, infotainment is slow” EVERY TOYOTA REVIEW “as you can see here, resale value and reliability excuses our test mule from any criticism. We love the old school tech, big knobs and no infotainment system. It won’t put you back in your seat, and the fuel economy is low, but I mean, no one buys a truck with mpg in mind. Definitely a value at $50k” TFL REVIEW “let’s actually drive it as advertised and see what happens”

That is a freaking awesome looking 4Runner but also you are like one of the greatest truck reviewers on KZbin you're not afraid to actually put the trucks to use. Great video

Proper review and test for an SUV like this! The 4runner is one of the last of its kind of really rough and rugged SUV's that can do so much more than the grocery-getter crossovers that have taken over the market. Its awesome to see that this legend lives on in the form of a properly styled, powerful, and capable SUV. LONG LIVE THE 4RUNNER!!

great video Stephen, You have just made Nathan jealous and he is probably thinking up one to out do this one. Canadian press vehicles are set out differently than the USA. Hydro lines are some of the worst off road areas you can pick to drive off road because i have been on them in Manitoba. We did a Little more than you ,we were also driving a big ford off road truck with 15' of ground clearance and 36' tires. Not a stock 4Runner, you hit it out of the park Stephen

You know what we like about you? It's the fact that you go off roading like it's ment to be. You drive like a true wheeler and not back down at the slightest obstacle or just show us a video of the 4x4 crossing some loose rocks on a straight road. ( Like any 2wd can go through ) #Respect and keep going!

I have to disagree about the interior. I hate modern interiors. Too many screens and too much light. I look at screens all day and work and home. The last thing I want is to look at more screens in my car. I'm sick and tired of screens. Real chunky knobs offer unquestionable functionality and reliability.
@Novastar66 жыл бұрын
Ditto....I want big easy buttons and knobs. Not this fancy touch crap that isn't responsive in the first place.
@animeshdas98426 жыл бұрын
Those screen allow cars of today to have very few knobs. Because what a knob does changes according to what's shown on screen. Without the screen, the car will be filled with switches and knobs to achieve a basic level of comfort and functionality.

Agree, pretty hard to press a tiny button while ripping the backroads, attempting to turn the ac on ends up accidentally calling someone haha

Agreed, thats why i wont buy a new vehicle. Im fairly confident my 1999 toyota 4runner would get through this. And i love the 3.4l, best gas motor ever made in my opinion
@Anomize236 жыл бұрын
Oh my God I have my 4runner and then I have a Nissan rogue that my girlfriend drives and we absolutely hates the touchscreen so much because we have to sometimes tap 2- 3 times on the screen to get to something and it's not very user-friendly especially on the road. On the 4unner it's a different story and much easier.

You mean "WHICH is remarkable ". And you are absolutely right, like when it appeared that he had become stuck barely a quarter of the way through but then managed with a lot of determination to get the rig freed and then proceeded to pound away at the crossing, it was very impressive! Hence all of the positive comments about the video!

Don’t buy the new gladiator too. Too much problem. Try type Jeep don’t buy in utube. Full of people warning not to buy. LOL The new jeep has a transmission mount metal bar with 2-1/2 “ holes in them. The girl reviewer her Jeep was say wtf is this, saving weight? Why? LOL the floor panel bars across sideway has holes in it too, and she say it lip catch on rocks her was bent up. Plates frame are too low below the body. her rip off. Much more.I think it because there are new young designer now. She has a new tube about its starting to wobble now .or something didn’t see it yet. Totally funny.
