There are lot of historical buildings, castles etc. all around Europe, but I think the creepiest places are normal houses with supposedly demonic entities in them, such as Sallie house. There's probably a lot of places like that everywhere, but the ones you see in yt are mostly in US.

Yeah, on the topic of wells being beneath the castle, there’s a few other things I think a lot of tourists get surprised about when they visit old British castles: The doors were never on ground floor. If you look at a lot of old fortified buildings, you sometimes see lines on the outer walls where old steps would have gone up to the main doors. It would have been too easy to invade using the ground floor, so if you ever walk in a castle using a door on the ground floor, it ain’t original. The Mary Queen of Scots house in Jedburgh is an example of this, although that’s a fortified house rather than a castle. Great place to investigate too!

I found this: Chatelaine of this contemporary, more peaceable version of Neidpath is Lulu Benson, whose husband Matthew is a property consultant. The castle came into the family through Matthew’s mother Elizabeth, a farmer, whose ancestors inherited it in 1810 and whose antecedent Jean Douglas is said to haunt the place to this day.

Back in 1994 I rode across Spain, I rode passed four houses in the interiors of the country, two on the left and two on the right, the two on the left were in line with each other, the two on the right, one was opposite the first house on the left, the house next to it was at a slight angle, all four houses had flowers cascading from window boxes, they looked amazing. On route back, two weeks later, all four houses were derelict, the window shutters were hanging off their fittings, another crazy thing was when all this happened I was riding on the left side of the road, of cause they drive on the right in Spain. When I looked it up, apparently until 1924 different parts of Spain would drive on the left, when you would come to certain towns and villages you’d be instructed to change what side of the road you should be on. Crazy, I still can’t get my head around what happened. Regards, Kiz.

My ancestors are from Scotland. In the 13th century they owned a castle there but lost it bc of the war. It is now back in the ownership of distant relative. I wish I could go there and see if "they" have anything to say to me. That would be a real trip!

I literally dropped my phone when you said the name Hay. I have ancestors, from Scotland, with the name Hay. I pulled out my family tree and Sure enough. Joan is one of my ancestors. The Hay family, further back, were De La Hay. I am going to look further into the name Elizabeth. Maybe a sister or child of the family. This is a beautiful castle in a picturesque setting. When you were mistaken for Elizabeth, I thought it was Queen Elizabeth, the one who had Mary Queen of Scots executed. The voice then said, "Why are you here?" The tone that was used sounded condescending, like you were the enemy.
