One thing that should be heavily prioratised in my opinion is 2in1 capability. Opening the professor's own slides and taking notes right on them while also sidestepping paper notebooks is hude. I know I felt envious of 2in1 and ipad users when carrying my gaming laptop and a bunch of notebooks

Jeah would be nice to see a 2 in 1 windows tablet with the amd zen 5 or the upcomming lunar lace chips. The surface 11 is good but with arm doesnt support the needed software for me (IT student) and the other 2 in 1 tablets on the market have bad battery life

My mother is in the market for a new laptop for light use only. I was trying to decide between the following: Lenovo Slim 7i HP pavilion plus 14 Asus Zenbook 14 OLED (Walmart spec) Apple IPad Air 13 What would you generally recommend for under 800-900 dollars between these laptops and iPads?

Zen5 iGPU (in the Zenbook S16 OLED) is the fastest iGPU out there. It’s actually usable for many 3d workloads. I do 3d rendering programming myself and AMDs latest iGPUs have been fine for my workloads. Zen 5 iGPU is also fast enough to run Unity and Unreal for indie game dev. Especially if your games are targeting mobile. But if you do heavy 3d (CAD, etc) or AI training on laptop then go with Nvidia or Apple M3 Max. Nvidia for heavy AAA gaming. Also if you need CUDA for scientific GPU compute, then Nvidia is your only choice.

Great explanation on the 16-inch laptops. However, the new amd G16 will not get the 4080 or 4090. Also, the ProArt P16 has 3 fans, and Asus tuned them well. The main choice between the G16 and P16 is screen. You get a high refresh rate on the G16, and the P16 has an outstanding 4k oled. At 1899 for a 4060 is a great value, the G16 is 200 dollars more. I am extremely happy with the P16. If worried about Asus warrenty, just get an extended warrenty from Best Buy. Battery life is very good on whisper mode it will last all day at 40 percent brightness.

"You get a high refresh rate on the G16, and the P16 has an outstanding 4k oled. " What is the screen refresh rate of each, please. Thanks. I need to replace my 2020 Razer 15 Advanced with 360 refresh rate, needed for my CAD-like 3D embroidery software.

@leonardwise5807 2 ай бұрын
@sharondslater2774 If gaming and high refresh rate is what you want, go G16. Cad work is good on both. The refresh rate is 60 htz on the P16. The G16 is 240htz.

Hey Josh! Wasn’t able to make the stream due to timezone but I wanted to get your thoughts on whether I should, if I’m looking for a 13/14 inch laptop for light-moderate use, wait for more zen 5 to drop, get the spectre 14 for $3k AUD minimum ($3k for core ultra 5), or get a 2023 zenbook/pavilion plus for $1.5k. I’d be happy to spend in the $2k range for a better laptop than the zenbook/pavilion plus but I’m not sure if the spectre 14 with core ultra 7 would be worth the jump to ~$3.7k AUD. I feel like my best choice here would be to wait for more zen 5 to drop cos as youve said it looks very very promising

What’s the price and price difference between these two laptops?
@davitdavid7165
@davitdavid7165 2 ай бұрын
Depends. I am guessing that the 4070 laptop will be more powerful for gpu tasks (3d modeling, gaming at high resolutions) while the 14700hx would be better for cpu tasks (ie programing, 1% lows when gaming). Maybe see a jrrod's tech review of both models. the newer one could also come with wifi7, which is huge. Personaly I would find an amd model or maybe the 2024 g16.

The Surface Laptop 7 only lasting six hours is pretty much bulls***. I don't know how someone can be so Apple biased... I've got the Surface Laptop 7 with the x elite chip and its lasting 10+ hours easily. The x plus chip should last even longer, at least some tests say so.

For what it's worth, I disagree. As a past University Instructor I can tell you that "live" presentations are always challenging at best, especially when referring directly with impromptu chat queries. With this in mind, I think this stream was very informative, watchable and entertaining as a tech enthusiast. I would vote for Josh to keep these kinds of streams in place for unique "buying events" such as Back to School, Black Friday, etc.

Great Video. Personal Opinion, but Sarah needs to spend a couple hours(days) training in front of a camera. She zones out and "blank stares" into the void when thinking about things. It's tough, I've struggled with it too, but is a detractor/distraction and hard to engage with in a youtube video. Some further polish from her to either look at you, the camera(most of the time), or her work, and rest her face in a way that appears more engaged would have done this stream wonders. Again. great work from both of you! But Sarah's lack of skill in body language engagement was bringing the steam quality significantly down IMO. Nothing a little practice beforehand with the cameraman or mirror won't fix.

Best advice you could give to a student coder looking for a laptop is to switch their major since coding will be mostly done with AI within the next few years and there will be a glut of unemployed coders looking for jobs, so it will be impossible to find a coding job.
