It was an honor for me being able to react to one of the best singers in the world!! About the “lip syncing”: I’m not saying he does (and even if he does, I’m 200 % convinced that he’s capable of hitting every single note he sings in his video’s live or not), I’m just telling that there is some online debate going on about him “lip syncing” some of his videos. I just chose to not dive into that discussion because I think it’s not that interesting. What IS actually interesting is his amazing vocal talent that I try to analyse in this video. So please enjoy and stay kind! Christof

He was very sick here and you choose this performance of all things ...? You can hear and even see how red his throat was at 8:24 . During the 5-6 hour flight to Paris, he caught a cold from the conditioner on the plane. Dimash says he is lyrical Tenor. You have a nice voice.

I am not aware he was being accused of lip sync for SOS, as far as I know he always sings live for that song. But anyway, welcome to Dimash world, you will be surprised why there exists such a musical genius in this generation. I hope he will get well known worldwide for his artistry. Dimash is an artist, a performer, a singer, he will put you under his spells with his voice the more you react to him. All reactors say the same thing: every song will surprise you with something different.

Not particularly for "SOS". There is just some DISCUSSION about him doing lip sync in general, I never stated it to be true. Also, even if it's true, I'm totally convinced of the fact that he's actually capable of singing every single note you hear in his video's, live or not.

@@ChristofChapsis There like 40 live versions of SOS out there, in this particular version he was sick with inflamed throat. There are only a couple of versions of SOS where he lip syncs because the occasion demanded it. If you want to hear how he sounds singing this song when he is healthy, please react to the Singer 2017 version, there can be no doubt about it being live, it's a contest. Almost all singers have to lip sync on certain occasions, do you present them all like this? I really think this is not very tactful.

Dimash has improved even more since this preformance...his best preformance of this song is when he sings for Sister Cities this year...and Dimash never makes mistakes....he does everything with a purpose... his goal in his singing career is to merge all types of singing together. He turned down an invitation to join the opera in his country.... I am not a musician but have heard many reactions and they all seem to be most impressed by the smoothness of his transitions.....welcome to the world of Dimash..

Dimash makes choices with purpose and very rarely misses a note (so rarely that it's truly surprising when he does, as he does in this video). As others have pointed out, Dimash was ill during this performance. You can hear it. He rushes the delivery a little, his voice is thinner than usual, and he definitely misses a couple of notes. Still, even ill, Dimash outsings 99% of the rest of the world. Also, it sounds like they didn't add the usual delay to his vocals and the reverb seems different than we usually hear. Basically, on top of being ill, the sound mix was not doing his vocals on this performance any favors.

@@annestep6741 Agreed! I know a lot of people prefer the Slavic Bazaar performance but I think his SOS performance on Singer 2017 felt more emotionally immediate and connected. Slavic Bazaar was great but almost too polished for my taste. Plus he feels really small and distant from the audience on that big stage and with the SB's camera work. The performance on Singer 2017 just had way more "magic."

My YOUNG MAN has worked hard for almost 22 yrs., started training at age 5 & in May he'll be 27. He trains just as hard today. B4 they started to defame him, they should have been aware even with training you 1st have to have something trainable. The creator blessed him with a voice that could stand up to hard yrs. of practice, training, attending the University for a Masters degree in his field. And if that's not enough, how about that his last name translates to, " DONATED by GOD, GIVEN by GOD. " Dimash is so humble, shy with respect for all. He'll not bother to answer their accusations bc that's what they want. The lip-syn was proved not to be true. But have those who started this horrible rumor bothered to post that they're sorry? No, not anyone has had enough decent consideration to offer apologies. They only gained a few haters that sub to their channels. We Dears will defend our YOUNG MAN against any & all threats to his legacy & abilities, those who disrespect him or try to hurt him in any other way, will have the entire Dear community to go through 1st. Thank-you for your kind words. You are right, he can hit every note up to a D8 as he has done during the performance of Drunken Concubine/Diva Dance in China & during his performance of Unforgettable Day, which he wrote as a teenager. Thanks for your reaction. There are probably over a dozen Dimash live performances of SOS on youtube. At least 10 of them are totally unique and not in dispute about whether they're live or not. Unfortunately, you chose one where he's quite ill. You can really hear it (if you're familiar with Dimash) in his resonance, sustain, and choice of notes when he's not well. I can wish that you'd chosen an SOS performance where Dimash isn't making on-the-fly adjustments for his acute respiratory distress. I also wish he'd cancel performances when he isn't well, but he hasn't asked me :-) That being said, Dimash on his worst day is incredible.

Yeah, this performance seems rushed. And hearing Dimash miss any note at all is so unusual, it's kind of jarring. You can definitely tell something is off here that isn't in any of the other SOS performances I've ever seen. Also, it sounds to me like there's some missing reverb or delay or something in the sound mix. Usually, he's got a decent amount of delay on his vocals and I don't hear any at all here (or maybe it's just really quiet). And although I can hear reverb, it's not a lot. Those two things usually fatten up and smooth out his vocals a little.

Greetings to the owner and guests of this channel…! ARTIST FACTS: DIMASH KUDAIBERGEN is a Kazakh singer, songwriter, & multi-instrumentalist. Born in Aktobe Kazakhstan, Central Asia: May 24, 1994. He was trained in classical & contemporary music, and is well known for his exceptional widest vocal range. I still browse the music videos of Dimash from time to time to see what still store in there. I’m just wondering how much effort and strength Dimash had invested into it, to reach such a powerful voice and the many other talents that he had. Indeed it is really a great work. How he was able to develop such a heights of his talents is really admirable and worth learning and imitating. And it is much more beautiful because he sang it by heart, naturally and at his heart’s content with joyful disposition. The discipline, dedication and high ideals in pursuing his career the best he can is worth imitating not only in our individual professional fields but also in living out our day to day life. His hard work for years is indeed bearing good fruits in abundance. And so my heartfelt congratulations to Dimash and his family and all others who supported him all the way through as a musician. For me as a public listener it counts a lot the personal disposition of the artist and the good content and message of its music. The fact that, he is able to sing his music at maximum or more than 6 octaves with ease and comfort in different languages and in various voices is really amazing. But some others also cannot handle and cannot even believe the power, the strength and the heights of his voice…and they said Ooh… is Dimash human..? Alien..? Etc, I think It’s just a natural reaction that people wonder and be surprise by it or cannot even believed it at all, it’s because it is beyond human expectation. I believed that Dimash 21 year’s cultivation of his voice and talents is no tricks and no magic at all; though he is gifted by God with grace for music but his years of hard work of practice and experiences proved it to us and to the world … that indeed it is possible. My other concern whenever I listen to music is that, I usually ask: WHAT MESSAGE THIS MUSIC BRINGS ..? TO THE WORLD..? TO PEOPLE..? Although Dimash music are very good, full of content and meaning but I like most this music, because for me it speaks a message of truth, values and realities of human life. I feel that, it is not just enough to give my thumbs up to like this music, but I’m deeply moved to share something more about the richness and deeper meaning of it. With due respect to the composers, writers and singers of these music for whatever their purpose and intention would be, will always take precedence. The thoughts that I will be sharing below is only the fruits of my personal reflections based on the things that I highly valued and on how I perceived it myself and the message of this song that reaches out to me. I like this music because it reminds me the Truth, Realities and Precariousness of Human Life particularly Suffering and Death) SONG FACTS: The song is from French Rock Opera called Starmania. Originally it was sung by Daniel Balavoine who had a sudden death in a helicopter accident in 1986, who is known of his beautiful voice. Later, it was covered by Gregory Lemarchal, a young French singer who inspired Dimash to sing “SOS d'un terrien en detresse” who at all odds won the 4th series Reality TV Program Star Academy, despite his failing health and became an overnight success in France but had a shorter career, for he died young with his unusual illness of Cystic Fibrosis in 2007 at the age of 23. Recently it was unbelievably covered by Dimash and from time to time Dimash sung it in memory of his great friend Denis Ten an Olympic figure skater from Kazakhstan who was stabbed after a dispute with people who allegedly tried to steal a mirror from his car in his home city of Almaty. He died of massive blood loss from multiple wounds at the age of 25 in 2018. The song has sad lyrics: “a soul’s plea for help or an earthly being in distress” because it is a human being who is in anguish searching for the absolute. MY THOUGHTS AND OPINION OF THIS SONG (REF CCC): Suffering and death is one of the realities of human life. It is important that we should know the basic truth about it, so that it will not cause us fear and distress in our human life’s , but rather to remind us all of our ultimate destiny as people of faith. For me, there are 3 kinds of suffering we experienced in life: 1st suffering that God allows, 2nd suffering which is the results of our own choices and decisions and 3rd is the suffering which is cause by other people to us. In whatever forms of suffering we are experiencing, know that, if it is discerned well it will gain us eternal merit. Note that, it is not important how much and how long we suffer, or who cause us to suffer, but how is our attitude towards it when it comes into our life…? All of these three can be an opportunity of grace that we will grow in virtue, when we accept it with humility, discernment and faith in God. Our usual human tendency is, if we can, we try to avoid any kind of pain and suffering in our life. However we can’t deny also that life is mixed up of many learning experiences both in joys and in difficulties and I supposed we need it both, because it contributes and helps us mature and grow over time in many aspects of life. Suffering and death may seem contrary to our own human thinking or world’s way of thinking but in it, there’s a certain wisdom which is richer and deeper that no one can fully understand. Suffering reminds us the real fact that we are all fragile human beings; that we are limited and we are not God. Sufferings are human reality and consequences of sin that affects us all. It helps us see the real worth and value of things and meaning in life. It sharpens our awareness that this earth is not our permanent and true home. We should remember that we are only strangers and pilgrims on this earth”. Suffering purifies and refines us of any life’s superficiality into an authentic one. Though no one really is actively searching for suffering in his / her life, but honestly truth compels us to admit that sufferings do have a great value in our life and by experiencing it personally in reality, you will never be the same person. But through the original sin that enters human lives, our nature has been wounded, and is now subject to suffering and death. Death for us is a frightening mystery because we are being stripped off of all our attachments to this world; our body lies corrupt; our immortal soul goes to meet the Lord. We will see the whole truth of our lives. Death creates in us a feelings of fear, separation, sadness and pain. Many times we evade this reality and we try to question and even argue with God why…? But all our efforts failed because whether we like it or not at the end, we all die. Death comes in our life anytime anywhere. No material things, good health, young age can guarantee of its extension. The truth is… in front of death we are all poor and powerless. If this life were the only one we had, death would definitely be the great tragedy. Death is such a peaceful, joyful event in our life, if we die reconciled with God and at peace with others as well. Death is unknown to all of us, therefore, it is best that we should prepare at all times. Of all the dozens of SOS I have ever heard him sing -including live at his concert- this is the one performance where he had a couple of moments that he had correct. From what I remember, he was ill in this performance because of flying. The other time (i think) was when he sang SOS in his London concert because he was crying for his friend that passed away. But it's easy to see that he can do it even when he's sick. I would love to hear you do a cover of his version of SOS, i think you can do it!

I will use the Google translator hoping for a good translation. In any case, I will also bring my text back to you in my mother tongue. I followed your reaction. You deserve me to explain to you who and what Dimash is. I will use words that I have also used for others. I'm Italian. I know the art of singing since I was born. Let's make the point right away: Dimash is not just good at this or that field, in this or that aspect, of singing. Dimash is the sound field. You have guessed the totality that is Dimash, but not quite. Following the ontological thread even before the logic of technical analysis, you still can't fully understand that here it is no longer just octaves, whistle register and even more than simple, immense, vocal technique. Dimash has a universal voice. To be clear, his voice is like what in biology is called a totipotent cell. In this sense it is a "stem voice". From this cell can be generated any type of tissue, what are commonly called musical genres. Its transitions are such that the transition no longer exists. Dimash does not sing the different genres (opera, pop, rock, also rap et cetera...). It's all genres already. In his case, musical genres are nothing more than a coloriture, an inflection, a declination, of his general voice. The same applies, of course, to all his voice records. This also leads to the fact that he sings easily in several languages. The different national languages are nothing more than determinations, sub-species, of its general sonority. Let me give you an example which is also a confirmation: Dimash has sometimes been criticized for not having devoted himself exclusively to the Opera. It was Dimash himself who declined the invitation to specialize in operatic singing. And this is perfectly consistent with its nature and value. Dimash is not only an operatic singer, neither just rock, nor just pop, nor anything specified and specific, simply because he is a "holistic" singer in both the philosophical and scientific sense of the term. Dimash is a "singing system" that is more than the sum of its own parts. She sings with her whole body. This fact does not only relates to technical considerations relating to the posture to be taken at different times and modes of singing. It is first and foremost that, as I said, in Dimash singing is equivalent to the whole organism. I suppose sooner or later this should have happened in someone. It happened in this Kazakh boy. In summary: The other singers, all the other singers, perform a song. Dimash executes himself. Having said that, I salute you. E’ già tutti i generi.

I am using google translator too. Very well said. Your last sentence, which says that Dimash is executed, I would continue with "and transform himself into the song itself." That’s why those who know him personally say that when Dimash steps on stage, he completely changes himself and they could hardly recognize him. Dimash himself speaks of this as his inner transformation, the inner world (summarizes the words of MJ). Luckily for us, he can even pass this on to others. And here we can also understand the differences in his fans. Those who are able to be the receivers of this transformation they can be recognise as his Dears. Therefore, the relationship between him and his Dears is a magic that is difficult for anyone to understand from the outside and can only be understood by those who experience it. Thanks for your words.

Thank you for not getting too involved in the lip syncing pettiness. There are a couple of videos - predominantly from “live” Russian television where it appears to be the case. The explanation I have heard (from my husband, who lived in Poland when it was under Russian rule) is the Russian government does not allow 100% live performances on “live” television for fear that an artist may say or sing something inappropriate or not acceptable by their censorship. Whether this is true or not, I don’t know, but it does seem in keeping with the videos where it appears likely that Dimash has had to sync. Doesn’t matter to me at all. I agree that Dimash is capable of singing any of his repertoire live at any time and to question his ability is tantamount to complaining that a supermodel wears makeup. Of course they do! Are they any less gorgeous as a result? Emphatically no. Same holds true of Dimash’s voice. It is incredible no matter what! Really good analysis and I’m sure you’ll have a great career once you’re finished your studies! Bonne chance!

Thank you for that detailed analysis. I think it's been determined, however, that Dimash rarely--if ever--lip synchs. I think I've heard nearly a dozen different performances of SOS and not one of them is identical to any other. Thus the proof of not lip synching---at least not on this particular song.
@Chabtung
@Chabtung 3 жыл бұрын
in fact, there are rather around 40 live performances of SOS out there. Yes, Dimash has to lip sync on occasion, like almost all other singers, because of the conditions he performs in, there is no point in claiming it never happens. This is unrealistic. Not all venues where he has performed even have the possibility of live sound. But he is a great live performer who sounds better singing live than in the studio and almost all the multitude of his SOS performances are live, with only very few exceptions.

@@Chabtung I was actually referring to versions of SOS that I have heard--all of which are clearly live. I have, however, often wondered about that World Skills performance of Olimpico. There are clearly moments when the video and audio don't match up. Now having worked with video and audio in the past I know that the tracks can be laid down poorly such that the video and audio are not in synch but I have always wondered if it wasn't actually lip synching because there are parts of the song when they match up perfectly while other parts where they don't.

@@gdouglas999 There are a couple of lip synced SOS versions out there. Easy clue - look at the occasions where presidents from post Soviet countries are present. Nobody sings live in events like World Skills in Russia, the organizers would never allow it, especially with Putin in the audience. They want to survive.

By the way: Dimash is an extrardinary vocalist. That's relevant, did he lip synced at some TV shows? Perhaps... because he must do that. Professionalism = Audience, technical crew, sound engineers,... satisfying. That means adapting to their standards. Thats how it goes... Mr. Kudaibergen is faaaaarr away from still "proving himself" , he is... extraordinary. No one can't deny

Hi, on some occasions Dimash certainly mimes for production needs but he is the type of person who sings live even with a fever or a sore throat (as he has done on some occasions with wonderful results). So I honestly don't care if sometimes he doesn't sing live. The voice is always his right? And however there are videos where he sings a cappella and it's better than in the studio. So there is nothing to say. Thanks for your reaction. Ps the best live versions of this song is that of the Singer, Slavic Bazar or when he sang for the Usa President Inauguration.

WONDERFUL :) I DO think the live version of S.O.S in the 2017 "The Singer" competition in China is much MUCH!! better. Something happened in his development at that time and SINCE then...that elevated his singing ability to a WHOLE new level. THIS one that you have chosen is from quite some time back before that developmental LEAP. Those performances on THE SINGER competition are all live as it was a singing competition.

I have to remind some things ! Dimash became famous in 2017 after exactly the first stage of the 14 of the 4-month contest. The Singer is a contest in which 12 of the best singers of the moment in China participate as guests. That year, for the first time there was a wild card (like in tennis) and this was Dimash Kudaibergen, the youngest competitor so far in this competition and he was the first to sing on stage in that first stage. He had over 600,000,000 views on Weibo (an application very similar to Tweeter and Instagram) in just one day so from the next day he could not leave the hotel without bodyguards ! It is worth remembering that at that first stage he was alone in China, at the second stage as a surprise appeared his father to support him ! In these conditions it is crystal clear to me that Dimash had neither the technical conditions, nor the appropriate logistics or influence on the organizers to "benefit" from the synchronization of lips with the orchestra, conductor and all competitors behind the stage, competitors who, due to experience could not be fooled by no one ! Their faces confirmed the shock they experienced very much alive ! We can easily conclude that all the stages were live and let's not forget that he sang at least some extremely difficult songs from a technical, vocal, emotional point of view and so on. I can mention SOS, Opera 2, Show must go on, Adagio (singing at the beginning the piano), Confessa and Diva Dance, Autumn strong, Daybreak, Unforgettable Day, tribute to Michael Jackson (with a solo on drums), Adai and Daididau (with a solo at Dombra), Hello (by Lyonel Richie) and others.

Great analysis, and great singing and range yourself. Don’t be put off by any negativity toward your excellent video. I do believe that Dimash wasn’t 100% healthy for this performance, based on other performances of this piece which I believe to be 100% live, and practically flawless (albeit with some inevitable post-production editing). At the end of the day, even Dimash is actually human, and fans shouldn’t be upset when this fact comes to light. Even Michael Phelps lost a race now and then, no shame in that whatsoever. He is still the most amazing singer I’ve ever heard, and an incredible showman as well. The “Dears” may not understand the incredible pressure they put upon their own idol by vehemently protecting him from any criticism. Nobody is perfect, and expecting them to be perfect is setting them up for failure. In addition, fans who who hurl vile comments at anyone who dares to point out the slightest imperfection are doing NOTHING to promote goodwill toward their idol either. Great job again, and hope to see you analyze further material from Dimash.

You are wonderfully knowledgeable and talented yourself. Loved the detailed analysis of this song. Not sure why you chose this particular performance, which is in front of a small audience and not quite as perfect as normal. Try listening to the performance of this song done at the Slavic Bazaar. It's virtual perfection. Also, I hope you are going to continue your journey with Dimash as we "dears" would really benefit from hearing your continuing analyses. If so, traditionally, the next one would be Sinful Passion, which shows you a few other aspects of his talents. If you'd rather hear an emotional ballad, do The Singer version of Autumn Strong, where he sings a heatbreaking Chinese song, in Chinese, in front of a Chinese audience. It made me cry many times. Again, terrific analysis - far beyond a reaction.

Your reaction is very interesting. I've heard 2 other versions of Dimash singing SOS, but this one was new to me. I really enjoyed how you broke down the different elements of his voice "colors". I'm also very impressed that you recognized the difference between his head voice and a falsetto, and that he didn't use any "whistle" voice. I wish you well with your music-theatre studies.
