Alpha Acain, Lester Sabadao, and Lia Denise Tan of Cagayan National High School designed a prototype of a post-harvest equipment for local rice farmers who are still heavily dependent on traditional sun-drying and “kamalig” storage methods. They hope to help farmers minimize risks and increase their rate of production with an automated temperature and monitoring system for drying and storing Philippine rice varieties.
Their research won the team competition of the Robotics and Intelligent Machines category during the 2019 Department of Educational National Science and Technology Fair. The project was also one of the six entries of the Philippines to 2019 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.
Due to their excellence in Science and Technology, the three students are among the pioneer recipients of the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation Young Scientist Award.
