Trying to follow the form through Fleck's solo, not for the faint of heart. I like to think thats why Martino was smiling, at the sheer brilliance of Fleck's tones. Love the denouement after his solo too.

Wow, that's what virtuosity looks like..... all around. It's subtle, but man the way Rayford steps it back and lets Gerald keep time and then they dial it right back in under the soloists was tiiiiight..... a lot of lessons from the masters in this track.

HOORAY!! The First VIDEO, and only I suspect, where I did NOT feel ashamed of the Guitarist compared to the Wind/Keyboards, and it takes a Friggin GENIUS that Pat Martino is, so hes not really comparable to the rest, and this is one of his trademark songs. Thank You all especially Pat that can make a jazz solo as harmonically interesting as a top Wind/Keyboardist on the GUITAR, unfortunately my weapon of choice

+jay dutch Pat is a life survivor who had to basically reinvent himself. I'm sure you know his story.I have borrowed more than a few of his lines, and he was a big influence on me. I remember him playing "On the Stairs"....and all of the standards.I think he handled all that life threw at him quite well.

Gary Smith It’s still rhythm changes in C but heavily disguised. If you follow the AABA structure in your head while listening you’ll hear it. Also, I hear the banjo play a lot of C dorian over the A section.

yeah, they're following the same form (AABA) but doing the A sections as just C minor modal instead of the usual changes. then the bridge is the same as the original but with tri-tone subs: Ab7-Db7-Gb7-B7
