Metaphor refantazio could be seen as the magnum opus of Atlus with how much time and dedication that went into this game. The game has been in development for about 5+ years iirc and it shows, they took all that they have learned from their past games and applied that knowledge here and you can tell by not just the music but the combat, design and story Some fun facts The person spitting those fire bars is the chief priest of a buddhist temple (dont remember which but i know you chads will tell me) The language that they are singing is debateble with some saying its buddhist chants while the other is singing in Esperanto however it turned out to be buddhist chants sung with esperanto inspiration in a rap format The composer, shoji Meguro, recently did an interview about his music in this game and he expressed his surprise that so many like the soundtrack because he didnt expect it since its such a drastic change in his own words.

A lot of people confirms that is Esperanto, because it's a language that it was created to be learned easily, basically everyone can learn it and then all the world could speak the same language, so it's a way to unite all races, like in the game.

@@elerrante5991 i use to think this too however in the video where the monk sings the ost live (i think it was the tgs) commented on the video and said it was an original languange with an esperanto base so its not a one to one comparison, plenty of esperantists have said in the osts that while it does sound like esperanto the composers took the liberty of not following grammar rules. The best example I could give is bloodbornes ost which is in Latin but doesn't necessarily follow the grammer rules. Now for the writing and symbols outside the osts those are 100% esperanto as confirmed from people who speak the languange. The best example is the water merchant, when you talk to them and it brings you to the buy or sell next to name there are symbols which are in fact a one to one direct translation from esperanto into english That's why I didn't outright say the ost is pure esperanto because its not thats why it's called a base because it's sung in buddhist chants in a rap format with a esperanto base, the reason i say it like this is because thats how meguro and the monk described the osts its not me or the community but straight from the music man himself

It's sung by a Buddhist monk, with lyrics _in the style of_ a Buddhist chant, but in pseudo-Esperanto. And of course the rhythm is heavily rap-influenced. Simple as that.

Hearing "You face Louis Guiabern" and "King of Destruction" just made me relive this game I finished a month ago. And I still memorize it. I still memorize it! "My name is Louis Guiabern! In all seriousness all the nominations that were in the music soundtrack category were so good that im pretty sure a majority of people didnt mind who won since they were all so good compared tl gow and xenoblade fans who are still fighting over who shouldve one

While I do prefer Vengeance's soundtrack because it has that weirdness/dissonance and variety to it(Shame it wasn't nominated) but yeah Metaphor's pretty great tbh

Atlus game music is bomb. I love Shoji Meguro music. He did a fantastic job on Atlus games. Persona 5 is one of my favorite games and soundtracks. I also recommend Stellar Blade music. It might have some questionable visuals in the game, but that doesn’t mean it can’t have incredible music. Stellar Blade has some of the strangest, most diverse, immersive, interesting, and complex music I’ve ever heard in video games. It’s good though. Most songs are in different genres so you can’t get the Stellar Blade sound from just one song. I recommend Hypertube, Everglow, Democrawler, Raven, Don’t Forget Me, Silent Street, Abaddon, The Song of Destiney, and Star Descent. If you want some heavy screamo metal then you can listen to Belial too, but idk what you like. Almost every genre is in this game including Opera 😂

The monk chants were such a ridiculously cool choice. I can't think of another game that's done it to such a degree, utilizing the voice almost as if it were part of the instrumental ensemble, rather than being in addition to it.

A little context for the King of Destruction with as few spoilers as possible, he is just pure evil and wanting to cull the world and recreate it to suite the strong, though his obsession consumed him warping him into the King of Destruction that you fight who is a terrifying monster who is aiming to destroy the world. The theme it's self is more for the MC's team. Also, in the end of the song was the motif from Ode to Heroes, another great song in the game.

The OST is very unique not just for the chants in the songs but because it actually uses, in human terms, a very recent language with Esperanto. Only exists for about 100 years. Needs to pointed as for the themes of the game, it hits the nail on the head as it was created by a Humanist called Zamenhof who wanted to create a whole new one to bypass language barriers and help people to communicate regardless of what our native tongue is. He just wanted people to connect. Atlus uses it for the OST as the game has a major focus on uniting the tribes in a world that is described as a hell with the segregation and disconnect of the tribes.

Fun fact, the characters are canonically hearing this music in world. The music itself is a spell cast by Gallica to inspire the protagonists, so they are actually hearing it in their heads. This is also likely the reason behind the overarching triumphant tone. Gallica wouldn't want to bring the mood down and discourage her comrades.

to be fair it is up against on eo f teh best OST of all time in FFVII but to metaphor's credit, atleast this is an original and FFVII rebirth's is just a remix of the original and I also think Metaphor should've won it since it FFVII already won in remake with almost the same OST with some additions

7:36 They really didn't. This is the battle theme a _disadvantage_ fight-when you get caught off-guard. And the music is so fire that I have specifically let myself get hit just to hear it. And this is not a very easy game, _and_ I'm playing on hard mode.
