Studio One 3.5 - Vs. 3.3 CPU Monitor Shoot out - Real Life Example -
In This Video I show where I've been struggling with CPU performance in Studio One V3.3. Not that there are 93 tracks including FX, Buses, VCAs and a hefty number of Stock and third party plugins. I pushed the limit of my own computer my Specs as follows:
macOS Sierra V 10.12.2
iMac ( 27 inch, Mid 2011)
Processor: 3.1 GGz Intel Core i5
memory: 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics AMD Radeon HD6970M 2048 MB
As you can see, I don't have a top of the line computer. In fact, the computer is a bit old. I was really abusing the DAW expecting it to put out more then it could squeeze.
However, the tests will shock you.

Nice test! I believe the dropout protection can never be under the audio buffer size. So theres no difference if you put 2048 in audio buffer and have dropout protection at minimum. But you do benefit to have audio buffer at say 64 for low latency stuff and a higher dropout protection. It's like two parallel buffers, one for recording or playing VI's and one for playback with heavy processing.

Are the waves plugins on your tracks running? You stated that you updated your waves plugins, and that you needed to poin back to the file. If so, wouldn't your cpu usage go down some because some of your plugins aren't active?

watufuka369 yes. But previous version. S1 keeps asking me to point it to it but I can't find the latest 9.6 I think it is.

Music Production Alliance I need to get this update, any improvement is still an improvement. Have you tried recording with active plugins monitoring through studio one?

Music Production Alliance I run an rme a babyface pro. It has some dsp, but It is used to run total mix, reverb, delay, and a 3 band eq. The unit has 0 latency monitoring, but I can't run through the studio one, and use it. So, I can't use hear any plugins when recording. It would be nice to be able to use compression plugins while tracking vocals. I could of went the Uad route, but I didn't want to go down the rabbit hole on Uad plugins. I would constantly be spending money or envying people that can afford it all.

you don't need so many fat plugins if you have a lot of tracks...

You won't be able to take much advantage of low latency protection unless you 1) save your project in 3.5 format, close it and open it again; 2) are actually recording something so you can notice the latency
