Omg the peppermint story kills me! I have a comparable story but mine is from the 1st grade playground … I was (and still am the kid with a pocket full of unusual or pretty rocks. Sooo, I always found tasty rocks at the playground. I never mentioned it to anyone since I knew they were special. Well I never realized I found ‘em around the perimeter of the merry go round and under the swings, kinda at the high point or farthest out point of each swing …. One day at the candy store, I noticed tasty rocks for sale “jawbreakers” !! Remember how they had rings inside if you melted them down unevenly! Hahaha!! I never talked about it but always stayed alert to new things I needed to figure out! Now I talk & laugh about these great kid experiences when reminded of them! So thanks for sharing.

I loved hearing the memories of your grandparents ❤️ you really had some bad candy experiences 😄 I was very close to my grandparents too. My grandmother passed away 6 months ago, 106 years old. It was sad and weird... because she got so old, it kind of felt like she would be around forever.. Now we only have the memories, and they will (hopefully) be there forever 😊❤️

Oh wow Sandi this was so precious. Think you remembered the house being yellow because you had a lot of sunny memories there. And the pink house was from the true artist spirit of your Granny and your Pappy got to a point and said enough is enough we paint the house blue. Beautiful memories Sandi, and I so love spending time with you Saturday mornings, long or short videos and when you skip I go back to your previous videos, they are all such a joy! I am so grateful you making these videos and also thanks to your supportive husband.

I just turned 34 this month and I thought we were closer in age. You go girl! Thank you for giving us a peak into your blessed life. Keep it up! I've created more in this last month watching your videos than I have in a long while.

Your paintings made me think of Maude Lewis. I love her story. She is Canadian and I live in the capital, and our National art gallery doesn’t have any of her paintings. It’s a shame. Hopefully one day they’ll have an exhibit of some of her art. Her house is a museum but in another province where she lived. Thank you for your video and the sweet memories of your Grandparents. Happy Thanksgiving. 🙋🏼‍♀️🌻🇨🇦

The house color story is so interesting - and funny! It reminds me of an experience my husband had when we had just moved to Vermont. He asked for directions for some place and got a response: “turn by the house that used to be yellow.” 😂😂😂 How would we know which house? 🤦‍♀️😂 We did find where we were looking for! But now I always look at that house (which is gray) and laugh. Wonderful video and wonderful painting and the most heartmelting stories! Thank you for this! 🫶🏻

I LOVE this one SOOOOOO MUCH!!! I totally want to do this! I think about how often I will have little memories pop up and then if I think about what I’m thinking about (meta) I realize how I’ve inserted my grandparents’ house or my cousins’ or a school yard, etc. There’s so much good fodder there. I was thinking about how you said you painted your grandma so much bigger than your grandpa, and it reminded me of Rose Wylie and David Hockney. Hockney talks about how in eastern art, before the European “standard” of using “precise” perspective, things that seem more important in the scheme of whatever the person was painting would be bigger because they were stronger in their memory or thinking. And he talks about how our eyes don’t see in that rigid perspectives way. They move from thing to thing and so see things in varying scale and angles, etc. Also check out Rose Wylie. Her work can look to a lot of people too childlike, but she’s in her 80s. Really, like you say, it’s more difficult to paint loosely. She paints some things really big, other things small, lots of wonkiness is going on, but it’s all from memory. The truth is, it’s that kind of painting that pulls at our hearts, because it’s so interesting and personal. I just love these amazing house paintings you’ve made! I HAVE TO make some now!!! Thank you!!!!! xo 😊😊😊

The painting has such a sense of a very specific place. I like it very much. I love watching you and I love your voice (I grew up in southern Indiana) I have made art for over 50 years now and recently got a fresh start on making my own collage papers and using that for collage. I paint them, print them, color them, then tear them up! That might change how you feel about those collages you made. So I just bought a set of Flashe paints...

Not sure if this would be helpful , but I get the tackiness of the tape down by putting the tape onto my pant leg and then pulling it off. Then I repeat the process. It really helps with it ripping the art paper when I remove it.

My grandparents had a pink house too! Isn't that weird? They moved a lot, but one of them was definitely pink. She loved pink and was even buried in a pink nightgown with tons of lace. She was so tiny. I'll have to paint one. I did do a drawing that my brother has hanging in the little hallway next to their bedroom. Neither of us remember all the details. :) The painting may be a mix of ten houses. :)

When you mentioned Maud Lewis (from my province here in NS, I got to visit her wee house in the museum when I was a teen) annnnyways....it reminded me I wanted to share the artist Shelagh Duffett with you. Another local Nova Scotia artist who sadly passed, unexpectedly, last year. I miss her Instagram posts...anyways...you may already know of her work...if you don’t, you’re in for a treat and if you do know who I mean and her art you’re nodding your head going “yep, yep....” You will or already do.. like her style. Anyways...enjoying your vids.

I'm going to brave trying this, it's gonna be a hard one, and many tears. I haven't been to the house since I was a teenager, I'm 41 now, but I remember every single detail. I was obsessed with it, I called it my home. I learned how to painy at her kitchen table. I still have the paints, maybe I'll root them out and see if I can revive them. Thank you for this ❤️ mascara will have to be taken off first, I can see this being a snotty mess
