A four day work week sounds so nice! I'm a big introvert that needs to recharge their social battery, so one day to do stuff around the house, one day to relax, and one to have fun & hang out with people honestly sounds excellent! I'm still in the hustle phase of my art career right now and work has been bleeding into every part of my day, especially weekends, but a more focused work week that's four days long would prob help a lot with my mental health and burnout!

Your vlogs are so relaxing to listen to while I work! Also, definitely get an accountant, as a comparison, I pay my accountant $250 to file my taxes, and I don't pay anywhere near 30% of my income cause I deduct *everything*. Like anything you use for your business...Adobe subscriptions, all art supplies, shipping labels & supplies, any purchases made for your office decor/organization, etc. I keep a spreadsheet I update throughout the year that I list all of these expenses and add it up. Then I send that to my accountant. Hope that helps save you some $$$!

love that you trying new things -with the acrylic painting! 🥰 i would maybe recomend trying use bigger brushes when you do bigger blocks of color, it will save you time and in my case it helped me reduce streaks and heavyness :) just a suggestion 🖼🎨 i love your illustration 🌸

Make sure you include all expenses. Taxes is not more being self employed, it just doesn't seem so bad when you get it taken out of each paycheck. make sure you expense your "studio" Sq footage...internet, cell phone...paint, stamps, gas...car expenses like tune up...brakes etc. If your taxes are super high then you might not be including all the expenses.

this! When done strategically, self-employed taxes should, generally speaking, be less than what you'd pay in taxes if it were a 9-5. It's just an absolute unnecessary headache to figure out. Our tax system incentivizes tax breaks for businesses over individuals.

Hi! I've been freelancing for almost 9 years now. I've found it helpful to always set aside 25% of every block of money that comes in into it's own savings account. I have a tax professional handle my taxes. He always makes sure I deduct everything that I should be to get my taxes down. I usually don't end up owing everything that I've saved in my tax savings account. I use that surplus to reinvest in my company and also some goes into my Roth. Definitely Definitely get a professional to help you! Love your work!

I was just wondering, do you still work a 40 hour work week and cram more hours into the days that you do work or how do deal with working one day less of the week? taxes are definitely the least fun part of being self employed! i tried doing quarterly but i kind of prefer to only think about it once a year vs 4 times a year! just know you're not alone in the stress it brings.

Not sure if this will help the tax situation.. But what if you set up an LLC abd paid yourself a salary.. And idk if you did this but working from your apartment you can write off put of you rent and utilities because you are using that stuff for tour business

If you owe over $1000 then they will hit you with a penalty for not paying quarterly taxes. That is happening to my friend this year who is self-employed. She was building her business, then boom had a great year and then got the penalty. She is switching to quarterly - which is due super soon if you need to look into that. :) I'm an accountant but not licensed by state to prepare taxes (I went into auditing and private companies after school) but I'm thinking about it b/c I think a lot of people would like help with this - both to help them file + to help them make it easier to track all their $. Haaaaaa - taxes geek out!! That's my jam though - nerdy numbers!
