One thing I really love from this backstory is how Chopper receives the best of both worlds from his mentors: one gives him the heart to care for others, while the other gives the actual medical skills and knowledge. Hiriluk was a nice and compassionate person but insanely terrible as a doctor, while Kureha is an amazing doctor but didn't really care about other people. I like how it shows both Hiriluk and Kureha as equally incomplete as doctors, highlighting Chopper as the perfect combination of both: a caring little guy with excellent medical skills.

It seemed like Carter was hit the most during these episodes, but everyone else was feeling the sadness as well. One Piece and it's backstories, they'll get you every time. i was about to comment about a lot of things... but AGAIN and AGAIN i was carried away in Chopper's story, and cried once more. Just another detail that i realized watching this again, is that same like Nami's backstory, it's setting up for a bigger picture, the fact that the drum kingdom is "sick" and there's deep hatred and discrimination against beings that are different. Also thanks for reacting, thanks Jack! Also love that McKay is liking Chopper, and just go very quiet during this backstory, and the recognition for his seiyuu!

Man, One Piece packs a punch to the gut when it starts with the emotional stuff. Fun fact, Oda usually tries to balance it with something funny in parallel. That's why the whole Luffy-meat bit. One of my favourite bits in One Piece.

9:00 I can only assume that reindeer tastebuds work differently from ours, but there's a good chance that it tasted bad to him as it does to humans. but the reason why he ate it is because being forced to walk at the back of the herd he probably wasn't allowed to eat with the herd, and if his parents abandoned him they didn't teach him how to get food. So he probably ate it because it was there and he was hungry.
