Right? I just can’t focus with Pomodoro. Animedoro sounds better and I might try that after my classes (physical classes) start but now, I just study a couple of hours and then take an hour break (1 hr break for every 2 or 3 hr study) because I can actually sit down and do the things I enjoy in an hour or more, depending on how long I study.
@hyxnjin72443 жыл бұрын
i feel like so many people worry too much about how LONG they study for and not the actual CONTENT they’re studying. i see so many people including studytubers and my own friends be like: i’m gonna do 2 hours this day, 4 hours that day, 6 hours blah blah blah” and i find that really hard to keep up. Instead, what i like to do, is say to myself: “i’m gonna do two or three topics today, two topics that day” etc, and i feel like it’s so much more accomplishable because you aren’t forcing yourself to study for a certain amount of time - you’re making yourself get those two topics done and one of those topics could take 30 minutes while the other takes an hour! it’s not about how long you study for it’s about the actual content you’re studying.
@akanta57463 жыл бұрын
Absolutely agree. The whole point of studying (and school in general) is to learn the material, and that should be the main driving motivator. You should never study for the sake of studying; studying is just a medium to transfer knowledge from the material you're studying from to your brain. Also, I find that studying without a timeframe in mind make me remember the content better overall since you;re more immersed in the subject without having to worry about schedules or stuff. Ironically, at least for me, I find that separating studying by content rather than by hours actually makes me too curious and immersed in the material that after I learn something I immodestly want to the next section, especially for subjects I'm interested in. For example, during a HGAP cram session I originally told myself to learn about two concepts but ended up finding the topic so interesting I read the whole textbook in a night.
@cerit4023 жыл бұрын
Exactly. The memorization is more effective when you’re writing it. Example : If someone studies for 6 hrs and only read the textbook, that won’t actually be effective as much as writing it. Also, if you like the subject or have interest in the subject, it’d be twice as enjoyable than saying “I hate this subject”. Study methods are extremely important for studying.
@akanta57463 жыл бұрын
@@cerit402it really depends on the person though. For some people, writing might be better. For some others, lectures are more effetive. It really doesn't matter how you learn something, it matters if you learned it or not. Although I do agree that having interest in the subject makes it way easier to learn and prevents you from getting burnt out.

Totally take advantage of office hours, even if you think the concept is obvious. Sometimes it clicks better if someone explains it to you alongside your notes or has a conversation about it with you. Plus, 2 things: take advantage of office hours for professors who are experts in your field or if you are really interested in their class because they can become like an extra advisor and there might be a point where you need letters of recommendation or something and we get SO BORED DURING OFFICE HOURS. When I TAed I would sit there for hours every week doing my homework hoping someone would come ask me a question from any of the sections in the class and I had 1 student come once in a semester, it was terrible. Sometimes professors are just down for a chat about whatever during office hours, but obviously mileage may vary on that one though...lol

Helping my son with distance learning 820am-230pm and working my own job from 9am-7pm remotely as well leaves little time for me to actually sit down and have ideal study sessions. I spend a few hours at night watching my lectures and taking notes. But when it comes time to study those notes time is limited, so I have flash cards on my phone or practice exam apps that I constantly do while I walk the dog. Sometimes I’ll even take my textbook or a reference book I’ve gotten on my walk with my dog so while we stroll the neighborhood I’m reading practice questions, doing flash cards on crash course or whatever I can to get that info in my head. Of course I’d love to spend hours in a library but with COVID and my life, it’s not possible right now, so we do what we have to.

I don’t necessarily like the pomodoro method because most apps don’t restrict you from going to another app or website, but apps that do restrict you from doing that like forest and flora tells you that your tree will “die” if you don’t stay focused but someone who just really feels like procrastinating, watching a yt video, or messaging their friend won’t really care if their tree dies. Like so what if my tree die? Why should I care, i just really want to take a “break.”So in the end, it just really comes back to self-discipline. 💫

Such an interesting video idea! And it’s also so important to remember that something that worked for other people might not work for you! Thanks for sharing 🥰

For me, if I had just a measly five minute break I’d literally spend the whole time just watching the time because the time constraint is so small so I’d just be counting down to study again so it is pretty much useless I like to study for like an hour and go and do something else for 30-60 minutes as I find that works better for me personally.

At first, I was kind of scared to see more about the pomodoro method because I've been applying it in my routine for a long time and I didn't acknowledge the disadvantages of this technique. However, when you talked about the 'lazy mood' (or productivity slumps if you prefer), I genuinely identified myself with these problems, so I guess we need more rewards when we are not that focused, as well as we can be gentle with ourselves by saying that 30 minutes of studying should be more than enough. I'm glad that you brought this topic, thank you ❤

This is actually how I do the Pomodoro method! Set the studying time go 50 mins and the break time to 10 mins.

thank u for saying that about the pomodoro method, i always felt really lazy for complaining that a 5 min break wasnt enough and i completely relate on just getting into a state of flow and then being brought out of it

Pomodoro is the only way I can study- it got me through grad school and now licensing exams. It’s become a security blanket at this point 😂 I use the app “Flat Tomato” and it allows you to customize your break and study times/ intervals

I always had a problem with the pomodoro method and people praising it made me feel like I was supposed to like it.Glad I found this video!

I'd say you don't like the traditional pomadoro method, 25 minutes work time, 5 minutes break, it's best to break the tradition, and set your break time and work time longer.

I totally agree with everything in this video! Especially the first point, I mean 25-30 minutes are not really enough to get in the mood for studying, sometimes I can’t even get started and stare blankly at the stuff in front of me for 5 minutes straight! I prefer studying for 2-4 hours with 30-40 minute breaks because I feel like I actually accomplished something afterwards. As for re-reading stuff or just reading out loud, I forget everything 10 minutes later. I write everything down based on how much I understand the material so when the time comes for me to answer past paper questions, I know exactly how to get all points. Anyways, I loved the vidddd, i really appreciate your hard work at everything you do❤️❤️❤️

for me personally, just the process of writing notes helps me remember things. making it really pretty and turning it into a piece of art, makes me remember that information better because im putting so much effort into simplifying it enough to be written in an aesthetic pleasing manner. do you get what i mean?

25 minutes is way too little. i like to do three hours with an hour’s break in between. i have issues focusing sometimes but once i get into the flow i can’t get out
