Rob, what another brilliant, brilliant lesson! I’m a silver haired guitar player who started playing about 4 years ago. I have a neurological condition which makes playing difficult but it does help fingers keep going but my condition makes me forgetful and so lessons like yours, conducted at this pace with these resources really, really help. Thank you so much. 😊

I've avoided barre chords for years, Rob. I gave up. Your tip about pulling back on the main body of the guitar is just amazing! All these years I've been struggling and this single tip has made me enthusiastic about getting to grips with them again. They've become easier. My wrist was breaking pressing on the strings and only getting a horrible muted sound. Thank you so much!

24:10 -- "...eventually, with practice, and with a decent guitar..." You're not kidding!! My first guitar was a Fender CD-60S. $200 brand new. They should not be allowed to sell guitars like that to beginners! Eventually I bought an $850 Taylor Academy 12e. I was **BLOWN AWAY** by how much easier barre chords were to play on the Taylor vs. the Fender. I *never* successfully played a barre chord on the Fender -- not even once! The first time I tried a barre-chord on the Taylor, it was like *magic!* A *million* times easier. You don't have to spend $4,000 on a guitar, but *do* spend $750 to $1,000 -- it really is the difference between night and day. A cheap guitar can *really* hold you back. And pay the $100 to have it professionally set up -- where they get the action and the intonation set correctly. Worth every penny, that!

Another great class Rob. This makes a lot of sense for me in sorting out chords quickly and help to learn the fretboard by attaching chords to frets instead of trying to learn it parrot fashion. Some stuff in some of the classes I find physically difficult to achieve but I'll get there it'll be worth it. Thanks again pal. 👍

Fantastic Rob, the sort of theory lesson I understand. You are brilliant at emphasising what we need to know. I still struggle massively with bar chords, always buzzing. I think my string height is good, going to try a beginner set of strings as mine are a bugger to press.

Barre -- etymology: French, from Medieval Latin barra The latin word barra translates to bar in english In France during the Renaissance someone asked a lute player, "What do you call that thing you do putting your finger across all the strings like that?" Interestingly, the french word barre translates to rod in english. The name Barre chords sounds better than Rod chords.

Bob don't know if someone has already pointed out that on page 3 of the paperwork the diagram for the notes of the 5th string C# and Db are out of position, should be a fret higher.

Hi Rob , another brill lesson , the 3rd,5th &7th fret/ girls and boys is brilliant , is it worthwhile using my 2nd ,3r & 4th finger for open chords so barre chords will be easier ? Lol easier said than done , I’m really struggling using 2nd ,3rd & 4th for an open g ( I’ve used 1 2 &3 for years & now I regret that ). Thanks again
@fennahrob69346 ай бұрын
You need to use fingers 2 3 and 4 when playing G as you often need finger 2 free to add little bits whist holding the chord down. Makes sense to do not that way if you can. 👍🏻

are 3rd and 4th positions reversed for the 5th string notes? thanks
@iainmckelvie69306 ай бұрын
Hi Rob, great lesson as always thanks. Just a point, on your chart are the 3rd and 4th fret notes transposed on the A string?
@fennahrob69346 ай бұрын
If your playing chords based on the E shape your 6th string barre gives you the root note of that particular chord. If a chord is based on the A shape then it’s the 5th string that gives you the root note. I.e. E shape with barre at 3rd Fret is now the chord G. The A shape with barre at the 3rd fret is now the chord C. Hope that helps. Look at the diagram on page 3 too, this gives you all the root notes on 6th and 5th stings. 👍🏻
@iainmckelvie69306 ай бұрын
Hi Rob, still a bit confused. Understand the E shape, and root notes at 1, 3, 5, 7 etc for F,G,A and B chords on the 6th string. On the 5th string, usind A chord shape, the barre will be on 2nd, 3rd, 5th etc for B, C and D chords. On sheet 3 of your download, the 3rd fret of the 5th string is showing C# or Db! Am I seeing things or talking out of my Lancashire backside😂
