I normally use fresh bread, as in my view, it tastes better. However, if I must use dry bread crumbs, I would toast them first. As for water, I only use about 2 inches, with 3 potatoes cut in half and placed at the bottom of the pot, and throw in the lemon halfs as well. I simmer for 45 minutes, drain the water and place the potatoes in the container with the artichokes, garnish with chopped parsley, and a good drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. (Maltese version)
