Your mini rant on correcting on the internet is spot on. The part where you talk about how people with less understanding tend to try and correct people has a name. The Dunning-Kruger effect. The Dunning-Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which people with limited competence in a particular domain overestimate their abilities. It was first described by Justin Kruger and David Dunning in 1999. Some researchers also include the opposite effect for high performers: their tendency to underestimate their skills. In popular culture, the Dunning-Kruger effect is often misunderstood as a claim about general overconfidence of people with low intelligence instead of specific overconfidence of people unskilled at a particular task.

While I dont have any of this particular Hogs Head at the moment, I do enjoy your T reviews and find myself checking them, and T reviews whenever I do get a blend I’ve never had. I also like to see if I get the same nuances you mention as my palate improves. It’s safe to say, for me, I like all of the T content, even for the blends I don’t care for. Thanks for all the hard work!

Hi Bradley, I think the confidence comes from the clandestine nature of social media. People would never say something to your face now have an outlet to take out there frustrations. With you on the constant release of these blends. Sometimes I think some of these manufacturers just put new labels on old tins 😅😅

I share your cement frustration. One of my beefs is calling mixer trucks "cement trucks". In a related observation, my mother-in-law does the "correcting even though she's wrong" thing way too frequently. I have no clue what her deal is. It's, ahem, always delightful when she does it though. 🤷

I don't mind people using "cement" when they mean concrete. It can be a colloquial/regional thing. I only get annoyed if someone tries to correct me when I use the word concrete correctly. ;-)

Ah, Portland cement! All I know about it is that if you spend a hot afternoon below a rotary kiln full of the stuff, as soon as the sweat dries, you might as well throw your shirt away. Happened to me more than once. As the old adage goes, "Better to keep your mouth shut and appear ignorant, than to open it and remove all doubt."

I remember you talking about Ray Davies from the Kinks, and I being a big Kinks fan didn’t know it’s pronounced “Davis” not “Daveees” and I corrected you …. When we try to correct others (to make ourselves feel smarter), and we are wrong, we only feel dumber! Northern New Jersey loves you …. and cement …. but not concrete :)

There is no word "concrete" in the German speaking countries. It's "Zement" - cement. They are actually pouring Zement. Yes, it can be confusing. It's a language issue.

I've been tired of the Bourbon barrel aged thing since the beer world went nuts for it. The original Kentucky Bourbon barrel was awesome, but every damn thing whether it's a beer or a tobacco does not need to be barrel aged.

I am not a YTPC, bit have a few subscribers that are and they do VRs . It takes me a month or more to come up with a video and always working on the next, so when people do give aways, I can not produce a video to participate in those. I agree, you are not a creator that is on top of trends of tobacco. Keep doing what you do sir 😊

Maybe some people think more before acting, other less. A bit more ponderance would not hurt generally speaking. It gives a funny outcome and a story to tell here so, no hurtful consequences. But not always

I've not had any 'barrel aged' SPC blends, mostly because of the 'limited' nature of these blends. If i smoke something, and like it, i want to ALWAYS be able to get it. Thats a big reason i dont go for small batch blends. Pipe tobacco, in my opinion, should be a leisure thing. The pressure of 'aquire this blend lest you wait a year for another chance!' just ruins that leisure for me. Availability is a star that goes towards the judgement of any tobacco I try. Plus, if i can get 4oz of c&d exclusive for the same price as 2oz of said blend, something is wrong.
@stuffandthingsyoutube

Bradley, love your videos! Question, I’m revisiting Elizabethan Mixture and I find it to be, in my opinion, kinda dry. Do you moisten your T when you receive it or do you smoke it as-is. Is there a better way to enjoy Elizabethan Mixture? Thoughts? Thanks! B.

I have on occasion corrected people when I'm confident know about the topic (and will look at sources to verify I'm correct before I post); I do it because I think of people being given bad information and I don't want it passed on. It's rare though, most of the time I just let it go these days - I think I'm just getting a bit more mellow as I age. 😊

As far as correcting people now a days, it is what you say, the internet has made everyone feel like they know it all. And most people I believe are a drink or two in or toked on something and have become more of a keyboard warriors. I to like to let things slide as it is hard to correct people over a paragraph on-line. But you stuck with that responder and they are now educated. And they did learn. So that is a positive ending

I honestly had just about given up trying to find a blend to smoke becauseC&d has been putting up basically the same one and naming something different and I’m sick of it. It taste like oatmeal. I have solved my dilemma by no longer purchasing from them. Sutliff makes me gag now if you wanna talk good tobacco blends for me the top of the heap is LJ Peretti Greg peas makes good blends too, but everything else seems like it’s becoming homogenized down and made it more palatable to the masses

Bradley, I like the limited run reviews. Mostly for content Secondly most of these sutliff specific blends rarely sell out quickly so good chance of still finding a blend you review. The one thing that separates you is your personal taste , i watch many reviewers and rare are the virginia perique type reviewers. I'd call you an expert in that department and would take your advice above most for what it's worth. I get you not being an influencer etc just my 2 cents. ~Scottem

I think people who constantly correct other people do not have a lot of self awareness. There might be an element of narcissism, but it was nice to know that the 'cement' guy admitted his mistake, narcissists generally don't do that.

Reddit is the line between joy and horror of the internet. It can be a cesspool of discussions where everyone participating is the smartest one. Their pipe subreddit is good and there can be pretty good hobby related subs. But I stay away from the political side.
