OK I live in the U.S. and I will do the conversion but I want to know how much a complete rebuild like that would cost me if I brought that pair of shoes to you for that job. I have several pairs of cowboy boots and over the years after having them resolved I know I have spent more than the cost of a new pair of boots but the cost is spread out over about 30 years. Thank you for a great video of your craftsmanship.

@@jiggsborah7041 greetings. Yes, South African here too, currently JHB, originally from Vereeniging. I remember growing up and seeing many of these “shoe repair” places as a kid, none were as talented as this shoe smith but there were many of those stores who either re-soled your shoes, or where you could punch a while in your belt or get a key cut etc. these days everything is cheaper to replace with a badly made short term solution that to actually repair an item that will last you for a lot longer if you spend a little extra to repair.

The only reason it's niche is because of the imported junk and molded soles. I myself, prefer a leather sole or a stacked leather heel. I like the look and feel of real leather, not all of the man made garbage. I do find it amusing though that people that refuse to wear fur will wear leather shoes or snakeskin belts/purses, shoes.

I had a shoes made for me in Honk Kong in 1976 and they were the best shoes ever. Being sensible high heels I eventually even had to stop wearing them which was a very sad occasion, due to Chronic knee issues that resulted in a knee replacement. I gave up the number of times I had those shoes repaired but well worth the effort. Now days living in the tropics I only ever wear Flitflops which are perfect for orthotic issues.

Nice pipes!! It's great to see that there are still people carrying on a very useful craft. An awful lot of people buy junk shoes and boots (foreign made) these days and they cannot be repaired. I believe in quality and paying for it because it does last if properly taken care of. I had 3 pair of Frye boots which I could no longer wear and gave two pair away to friends and one pair to my sister. She is still wearing them 45 years later and they look almost new. I paid $175.00 for them in 1982 and they're still going strong. But because I had them resoled before they wore down to the stacked leather heel the repairs never cost me much. Nice job on the overhaul of the Ferragamo's.

My first time watching the channel. What an amazing job! My father, A"H, ran a shoe repair business back in the 1960's in Atlantic City, NJ. I remember spending hours in the store with the big machines running, the smell of the leather and polishes...really brings back good memories. Was also good to see a frum family engage your services and really appreciate what the quality and artistry of your work. Thanks for making the video!

Brings back memories of my days as a cobbler. The training was "Always clean up" and when i first watched your video and saw your gluepot i thought thats a no no, then you said you cleaned it lol. Something to bear in mind, your finisher is belt driven and that dust builds up inside around the motor and it can overheat and cause it to fail. We used the airline to blast the dust from inside the finisher to save any problems. I'm now going to watch your other videos because they are very entertaining.

Great job there. My grandpa did this hiw whole life, even at the end of his life he would go to his small shop that looked like it came from those '50's movies (because it actually did) i allways found a special charm to it, spent many afternoons with him just hanging around watchim him doing his amazing form of art, as i considere it, not just a job. My biggest regret is that i never learned his art tho he was more than willing to teach me. There's something special about having those old shoes you liked and felt confortable in but that were used by time back to life and shiny as new all thanks to the dedication of someone that loves his job (yes its an hard one, trust me) but in the end like my grandpa used to say, "there's allways something rewarding when u see the custumer's reaction when you hand them their repaired shoes and knowing they'll last at least a few more years instead of them having to go buy brand new low quality made shoes that will literaly desintegrate themeselves in few months".
