Wow! Very cool. Very intelligent. Nicely done. Sorry, but I'm going to steal your idea. Just bought an old, neglected house in Florida. There are about a dozen nasty junk trees to cut down and clean up. I think there's a spare tire around somewhere. If not, I'll buy one. Thanks!

I didn’t come up with this method so I can’t claim any credit for it. I saw someone else do it in a video. I haven’t tried it on any larger stumps yet but it works great on the small ones.
@stephengrube15322 жыл бұрын
Well, you certainly perfected the idea. And nice touch draping that weighted safety pouch over the cable.
@SeaPro3602 жыл бұрын
We did this years ago and sent a 3 or 4 inch tree into my BILs truck bed. Dented his tailgate badly, but didn't break his back glass. The thing on the cable is not enough. It will stop the cable, but not the tree. Add a slack rope to the tree, attached to something 180 deg from pull direction. In addition to the cable snap protection that is (not instead of).

My winch line is synthetic. It doesn’t store energy like the steel cables do.

Should always use a snatch block to increase your leverage and Lengthen the the life of your winch

This was a small stump. I’ll try using a snatch block the next time I pull one.

I took out a boiler from a basement of a house. Had the wench on the front of the Jeep. Drilled a hole in the side of the house pull the wench cable through the hole. Pulled it to the basement put the wench cable around the boiler. Put two pieces of plank on the cellar stairs and haul the boiler up the stairs to living room and out the door. My friend was demolitioning the house anyway

genius. old tires nothing to lose sleep over and anything to gain if it works (and it did). Stump either goes or it doesn't and who cares what happens to the old tire...smart.

@KBS1172 жыл бұрын
That is stupidity in action ...there is enough energy stored in that tire to kill 3 people. Use a large rim or a 6x6 piece of wood.

@@KBS117 already spent 8 years being useful my good sir. I have also seen dudes heads explode. Some men decide to live dangerous lives. This however isn't that dangerous. Can something bad happen? Indeed. But you could be walking across a cross walk and get hit by a bus.

Cool, till the tow line snaps and goes thru your windshield lol just saw the comment from the OP about the hood up. Didn't see that lol
@timjchick2 жыл бұрын
With it being a synthetic line and having the weighted line it most likely would’ve just dropped to the ground. Synthetic lines don’t store energy like steel lines do. When a synthetic line breaks it’s nowhere near as dangerous as a steel line.
@DROK2782 жыл бұрын
@@timjchick Good to know, I've only even seen steel cable and I know how it snaps, scary stuff. Pretty cool tho you definitely got you engineering brain Tim 😉
@timjchick2 жыл бұрын
@@DROK278 search KZbin for some synthetic winch line breaks/failures. They are almost a non-event. The lines can usually be spliced back together in the field and continue to be used. Steel line breaks can be very dangerous.

I know nothing about winches - what's the point of the orange thing hanging off the winch cable?
@carlthigpen25912 жыл бұрын
It's a weighted blanket so if the winch cable snaps, it will keep the cable from flying at you or cutting you in half 😉
@penguins96452 жыл бұрын
@@carlthigpen2591 Ahh, that makes sense. Thanks!
@timjchick2 жыл бұрын
Exactly what Carl said. In winching operations it’s common practice to put a winch line damper on the line so if something breaks the weighted damper will cause the line to drop to the ground instead of flying straight back towards the winching vehicle. I’ve seen videos of winch cables flying back through windshields, etc. While I wasn’t putting a lot of tension on the line pulling this stump I added the damper on the line primarily to prevent people watching the video from commenting about how unsafe I was by not using one. Lol

I put the hood up on the jeep to protect the windshield just in case but it didn’t take very much tension on the line to pull this stump.
