He really wasn’t that beloved in the Memphis territory. I mean, we TRIED to like him. We wanted it to work. But he just wasn’t the next big thing. He was pushed way too early and outside of a few teenaged girls the fans just couldn’t buy in. In all fairness there was no saving the territory by the 90s. Nobody would have made enough of a difference. But Jeff was never the reason anyone watched the WWF either. He was a competent wrestler once he had a few years of experience. He was fine in the ring. He just never hit that next level and he rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.

Let's see, too me he was an amalgamation of HHH/X-Pac. Not looks wise but by push wise, let me explain. Even when both overstayed their welcome they were still put on screen and pushed to the moon. To them the boos were signs that they were the "top" heels night in and night out, when in fact it was the audience trying to tell em and the company that they are starting to affect the product and should leave for a little while. Jeff was pushed late in WCW than again in TNA (reason for TNA was obvious and the fans knew it) WCW, well.....damage was done to the product and they needed to try and somewhat salvage it but by than it was too late. (The sudden amount of title wins went to his head and he brought that mindset over to TNA thinking he was just that good to carry a federation) He basically has way to many titles for how much of a mid level performer he was. (Did he improve during his career, well sure but he definitely wasn't a 10+ world title calibre wrestler) *With HHH's reign of terror it was more so starting every bloody show with his 10 minute long promo "I AM THE GAMEEEE-A blah blah blah)* *Now with Jeff, oh boy. It wasn't just him on the mic but every bloody match (whelp here comes the interference oh what a surprise he retains the belt once again)* TNA was real lucky they had the women's Knockouts when they did lol.

He could work in main event matches, but he was never going to be a main event wrestler himself. I think he wanted to be what Jerry Lawler was to Memphis everywhere he went, but you got to hand it to him that he keeps finding a job in the wrestling business and you can never count him out.
@parkinsaw
@parkinsaw 2 ай бұрын
@@EyeOfTheWatcher ...Well yeah because the man had connections lol. Not giving him too much credit, would be like me saying "have to hand it to Orton" for staying employed for as long as he has doing the stuff he did. Doesn't matter what job it is really if your a "generational" employee would take quite a lot for all your connections to simply dry up. (Especially when you are a third generation individual) at that point you are pretty much royalty in the wrestling business, well at that time anyways.

He wanted something from you, and he's not an idiot. A friend of mine was a server at a rather fancy restaurant back in the late 1990s, and she served a party of people he was with. According to her recounting of the interaction, he and the other people he was with were all very polite, weren't any kind of bother at all, and tipped her and the rest of the kitchen staff quite well indeed. I'm going to assume he's not a fool, and understands that it's probably not the best idea to mess with the people who are doing some kind of service for you unless they royally screw up the job. It's smart when you think about it. Don't mess with the people who are making and serving your food, don't get nasty with people who are making or doing something for you.

I mean there is a thing called 'matured'. Jeff was young and like most young people, live life like a ferrari. The guy is now in his 50s. He has a family. He is a business man. He most likely regrets the things he did in the past and can understand the reaction that was given to him. All these people saying he is an asshole are ridiculous. The industry is/was competitive and so, ofcourse its going bring the venom out in people.

A couple of things: 1. Jarrett and Austin buried the hatchet on Stone Colds WWE podcast,with him essentially apologizing by saying that he didnt remember saying that to Austin 2. The Vince payout only happened cause Vince Owed him Money and he just said "You want THIS? Then i just want what i'm owed " 3. The whole Misogynist angle was the only time he was ever OVER in WWE and as Chyna said in her book "NOTHING was working with him" 4. @@chris_t2020 I can't explain this more clearly. I'm sorry you don't understand what I'm saying. Simply put, I cut a promo on Jarrett bringing up his poor attitude of NEEEEEDING to be a WORLD champion. WWE recognizing he can't/ wont EVER draw a dime and that Jeff couldn't handel the truth. Making himself a WHURL CHAIMPIEN every single chance he had a promo. Else where and everywhere he went OTHER than WWE, the one place it actually mattered. He HAD to make it clear he was a WORLD champion. He wasn't. He didn't EARN it.

Calling JJ despicable over the pay dispute before No Mercy is wrong. JJ was in the right about demanding his money. The pay from PPV took several months to get to the wrestlers, he wanted to make sure he got everything he was owed. Also, earlier in the year, he asked Linda McMahon for a reduced schedule since his wife had cancer, she granted it to him only for VKM and JR to reduce his pay. JJ was entirely in the right for his actions prior to No Mercy.

Am I alone in thinking how shitty of a finisher Jeff Jarrett has with the stroke? The Miz's skullcrushing finale is a far better iteration of it, in my opinion. This guy is the definition of a wrestler who, at best, should've been in the middle of the pack in the mid-card and maybe higher end of the tag division.

I have a bias towards JJ, I grew up watching Saturday Morning Studio Wrestling in Memphis. He and Lawler had great tag matches against the Moondogs and others. He is always a favorite of mine because I lived the Memphis territory and when WWF went national 80% of the talent came there from Memphis. Lawler trained lots of people, Undertaker, Rock, Austin, Bam Bam, Cornette, Jimmy Hart, Mick Foley, Kane, Kamala, and let’s not forget Macho Man had some incredible performances while in Memphis. The list goes on and on, plus Kaufman went to McMahon Sr. and he said it wouldn’t work well they proved that wrong in Memphis.

I think the "hate" is curdled annoyance that he was always in the main event scene in late-stage WCW and TNA despite not being "that guy". If he'd stuck around the mid-card I don't think there'd be much negative sentiment directed at him. He's solid in the role as a mid-card heel and he's a good worker who could have helped put guys over as they moved up the card. There's no shame in being in the mid-card. They may not be the guys fans tune in (or buy tickets) to see but they're an absolute crucial part of any show.

Isn't it ironic that Jeff Jarrett, who's considered, as the title says, one of the most hated men in wrestling, was very close with Owen Hart, who by contrast was considered one of the most beloved in wrestling. If you ask me Owen's legacy is already secure with Bret and the rest of the Hart family. Plus the British Bulldog was Owen's best tag team champion partner. I even liked Owen and Yokozuna. Hell I've even fantasized a tag team between Owen Hart and Mr. Perfect. I don't understand why Owen was so close with Jeff apart from being tag team partners.

I don’t like the term “never drew a dime.” It’s outdated. The truth is, since the death of the territories, most wrestlers, on an individual level, don’t really draw - it’s the company that does. There have obviously been a few exceptions, like Hogan, Austin, Sting, and Lesnar, but for the most part, people go because there’s a wrestling show in town. I mean, who were people going to see when TNA started? It’s just more wrestling jargon fans use to sound smart.
