Something to note that is relevant. The newest FX3 update now has anamorphic de-squeeze directly in the camera. So no need for a monitor if you don't want one.

Yes!! Very good point. The latest FX3/FX30 firmware update will help with this. I think it only has 1.3x and 2x desqueeze-this lens is 1.6x, so you might still need an external monitor. I haven’t updated yet tho, so not sure!

I just did the FX3 update and the only 2 choices are 1.3 and 2.0 desqueeze. The Saturn lens is 1.6, but in addition with the Sirui converter you can get to 2.0.

Great review . I still can’t get used to the pin cushion distortion at the edges as well as the whole 2.66 aspect ratio. On a 16 x 9 sensor one has to crop 17% of the image get it to the standard 2.39 format. Really wish Sony had anamorphic support or shoot open gate.

Nice demonstration, gives a good insight in many usage aspects.. BUT: t 7:14 you talk about 2barrel distortion", in fact the demonstrated distortion is called "pincushion" (it it orientated inwards..)

This is correct. Most cinematographers actually like barrel distortion and lean into it, and pincushion generally isn't desired at all. But can be fixed in post and just happens to be one of the tradeoffs of having such cheap anamorphic lenses.

who knows what lenses STUDIO DRAGON ( south korean series house ) use, i watched some of their netflix series and those guys have one of the best blurred backgrounds and bokeh i ever seen, not to say the color grading is best to none.... some i watched. mother (2018) ,crash landing on you (2019) ,when my love blums (2020) , its ok not to be ok (2020) Alchemy of souls (2022). yeah those guys are killing it. !

Fx has a 1.3 squeeze factor that .3 difference makes it look a bit stretched what to do to make it look not stretched

If I could ask a question. What are your thoughts on the "Blue" vs the "Neutral" lens flare options? A part of me wants to stick to the classic blue, but the neutral also sounds nice, especially with the idea of different light sources hitting the lens ie: Neon Signs, or Sunlight. Do you have a preference or a reason behind which one you went with? Anyone else please also chime in, I would love to hear everyone's thoughts! Great review btw.
