Mortius (paraphrased): "I feel tired, so this is going to be chill and relaxing." Also Mortius (exact quote): "How does he-I had-do you hear m-apethehka!" 😄

I love that this started off as just an analysis but turned into Mortius just reacting to it because of how much he had forgotten. It is always pure joy to go back to old songs that you haven't heard in so long that still have the opportunity to surprise you. Such a good song and glad you enjoyed it as much as you did

The easiest description for an octave is either a halving or doubling of frequency. If it’s halved, the note is the same but lower. If doubled, the note is the same but higher.

To be honest, it took me a while to warm up to this cover. My thought on hearing it the first time was that a song about flight and freedom shouldn't have so many bass notes "pulling it down." But the more I listened to it, the more I came to appreciate how Geoff's highs and lows created an "open space" in the music -- painting the contrast between earth and sky. As Shakespeare once put it: "Like to the lark at break of day arising/From sullen earth sings hymns at Heaven's gate."

@@DravenGal I'd rather the people giving job interviews understood the value of a Humanities degree. S.T.E.M. might teach you how to resurrect a T. Rex. But the Humanities will teach you why that's a very bad idea.

This is one of my favorites from Geoff, so I'm so happy that you finally got to this song. Geoff's version of this song just feels so comforting ❤ Also Mortius basically being offended by and envious at something Geoff does in a song is just fun to watch 😄

I've always loved the tempo choice of that fast little 'fly-fly-fly-flyyy' section that you were baffling over because it reminds me of the flutter of (blackbird) wings.

My choir class is currently singing “Sleep” by Eric Whitacre… as someone with a soprano to bark range, I love the song, but a majority of my class hates it. It’s fun. Eric Whitacre is good

It's not actually an "a capella analysis" since he's using a piano. But I watch for the reaction anyway, which is never disappointing!!

I was laughing so hard at your reaction to Geoff's utterly smooth slid with no noticeable flip. I needed that laugh. It's been "a week" for me as well and I needed some chill music. "Blackbird" is still one of my favorites from Geoff because it's so calm yet surprisingly complex. Definitely some Eric Whitaker vibes. I think I'm going to go listen to "Light & Gold" again and just.... chill.... I hope you get to do the same.
