I remember renting this game ALL the time from blockbuster because I loved it so much. Fun fact: Every single car in game was based on a Hot Wheels toy car by Mattel. I spent years looking for it, and a few years ago, got a copy for under $25. Good thing to because now it's worth well over $100 due to the scarcity.

I worked for Boss Game Studios (They were Boss F/X Studio working on movies Multiplicity, Fright Night, Ghostbusters 2, and a Batman film.) 1998-2000 and worked creating graphics for Stunt Racer 64 the Haunted House level in particular. Fun times. We started on a very realistic car racing game right after but I went back to Sierra Online. A year or so later Boss Game Studio went out of business. I also went on to work at Microsoft XBox games (Crimson Skies: “High Road to Revenge”)
@n64glennplant4 жыл бұрын
You know I’m sure one of the team from Boss commented on the specific video I made about boss game studios on the n64 - you would probably know them I would have to look but it’s funny because over the years quite a few staff members have shown up on the channel from other studios and it’s always a pleasure hearing the first hand insight 🤩
@Doommaster19943 жыл бұрын
I'll never forget, I bought this game sealed for $5 back at the Blockbuster in Everett (it's now a footwear store I believe), as they were selling off all their N64 games. I think Scooby-Doo was another one they were selling. Anyway, it will always be my favorite racing game of all time. However, when I lost all my data on it, I sold the game out of spite. I later bought the same copy back for $30 and have never let it go since. Had I known how valuable this game would be in the future, I would have kept the box and manual. It's possible I might still have them, but I remember the box was flattened, as back then, I never took care of my games. This game's soundtrack is so underrated; Depending on which tracks you race, the instrument patches used will be different. I don't believe any other game's done that, but I could be wrong. I just looked up the game on eBay out of curiosity, and holy smokes, is it expensive! Good thing I don't plan to get rid of the game anytime soon. I only wish the prototype was dumped so we could see the tracks shown in the IGN images. Also, an "easter egg" is on the House of Horrors level a bit before the starting line, there's this huge scary Frankenstein's Monster head that pops up and his hand tries to grab your car, though it can't since it's not "interactable", as it were. I also got World Driver Championship, and even though the game apparently uses the same game engine, I could never get into it. Would be cool to see a re-release/remake of this game, but because of its obscurity, I think it's safe to say it will never happen, unless maybe a fan can get the IPs. I don't think anyone owns Midway/Boss or their IPs?
@Nolan24483 жыл бұрын
Glad to know you still own the game, yes obviously if you still had the box and manual you’d be sitting on a jackpot, but it makes me so sad when I hear of people that simply sold these games entirely not knowing they would be very scarce later on

I really remember playing this a lot, and although i didn't quit finish the game, the visuals for this game at the time were really well done and playing against the bosses in the game did get hard for me as you went on farther through the game. If you can find this, definitely pick the game up, though i do think that this game isn't cheap.

OH MAN! You're taking me BACK, Glenn. I played this as a teen, just as I was thinking about moving over to the PSX. I remember this game reviving my love for the N64 and I wanted nothing more but to go back through and play my SF Rush 2 game. When my local rental store, Hollywood Video decided to sell off this title (for like 15 bucks IIRC) I snatched it up right away. It's probably still in my mom's garage somewhere rusting out.

Man, I've been trying to remember the name of that one game where Strawberry says 'Rumble Paks are on special today. Insert one now if you wish to race with it.' or something like that. This was it! This game reminds me of Unirally on the SNES, and does kind of look like what could have been its sequel that everyone wanted and never got made. I would still love to see a sequel to that game, but I'm not sure how good a game like that would be in full 3D with a behind-the-player camera view. Unirally worked very well as a side scroller. This game though, I'm not sure about. As you said, the stunts are very limited, yet they seem to be the selling point for the game. I would have thought more effort would be put into them. Also, the stunts were a big thing in Unirally - you either wanted to try to perform as many stunts as possible, perform all the available stunts and try to perform the really complex ones before you hit the ground after a big jump.

This is a great game, Rush 2049 has the edge for me, better graphics, presentation, sound, gameplay, multiplayer and speed on N64. Boss were the 'almost famous' development house that just lacked the knockout punch. Their prior release World Driver looked sublime, easily the best in its generation surpassing Gran Turismo 2 with ease, but suffered from naff presentation, a diabolical taste in music and car engine sound effects.

Looks like this game is among those that have flooded the market w repro carts. I hate repros, mostly because they rarely have any indication the item is not OG. Just put REPRODUCTION on the label or something... At this point you have people pushing repros like they are OGs and trying to scam others with them. Its sad I would love to collect more of the games I had to sell when my kids were babies, but I just do not trust the video game market anymore. Especially with those manipulated auctions recently... I would prefer OG carts, but I feel like an Everdrive is my only realistic option, since I have little to no faith in a reseller being honest about the repro/OG status of a cart. I feel i am gonna be super sad when I get my game bit and open all my carts to replace batteries and confirm what is real and what is fake.
