@@mistermann3225 I've been reading clips from Seattle news articles. Many fans give Shawn Kemp a pass. When he was with the Sonics, he would show up to camp out of shape. His natural athleticism and youth helped him get away with that approach. When Kemp showed up in Cleveland and got his money, he stopped working hard and gained too much weight. Seattle often says that Shawn Kemp was "The Man." The "Real Man" in Seattle was Gary Payton, The Glove.

Having grown up playing basketball in Indiana, Shawn Kemp is the best I've ever played against in high school. His athleticism for a 6'9" kid back in 1987 was simply on another level than everyone else. Shawn Kemp is also the oldest looking high school guy I stepped on the court with!! He's only 2 years older but it sure looked more like 15 or 20. When he committed to UK a lot of Hoosier purists were highly unhappy he'd leave the state back then. That probably cost him being Mr Basketball, no discredit to Woody Austin who was phenomenal at Richmond H.S. & Purdue. I know things happen for a reason, but I wonder if things might have been different if he had some structure at a college program for a year or two.

Seattle should've did him better than that, but its all business at the end of the day. So that's probably on a bigger scale as to why they wanted to let him go. Kemp was my fav player in the 90s. I had his Kamakazi shoes and jersey. He was unstoppable at the 4. That NBA lock out hurt him too. He was the type of guy that needed structure.

You will have money if you live for what you need and not what you want. Your wants are uncontrolled, but your needs are the things that discipline you.

I think Shawn needed structure, and a team with ATLEAST a shot at playoff contention. He put in WORK in Seattle. I've never seen a more exciting player to this day from his 90-96 seasons in Seattle. Growing up he was (and still is) my favorite player. As a young white kid in East TN...I had the shoes, jerseys, cards, etc. While he may have had his issues (resulting from what I believe to be betrayal, and constantly being sent to bottom dwelling teams after Seattle, not to mention the Lockout), I also believe that he owned them. It would have been nice to see him at the top of his game for atleast another 5-6 seasons. But, for those 6-8 yrs in Seattle, and 1-2 in Cleveland, the man was a gotdam ballller of the highest degree, in my honest opinion. He's doing well now, and that is what's most important. SK40-ReignMan.

I am a life long SuperSonics fan and your facts are INACCURATE! Shawn Kemp’s final season with the Sonics, they lost to the Rockets in the Second round. NOT the Phoenix Suns in the first round. 👎🏾👎🏾 #IfYoureGonnaMakeTheVideosGetYourFactsInOrder #Trash

Hyman Bjorn said it best.....(all he and others had to do was invest in mutual funds) but nooooooooooo to invest in the slick minds of women is always the better choice (first mistake)...they give so much away to relatives/friends that spend it up even quicker (2nd mistake)..they have so many ppl bringing ideas to them til they don't listen to no one and then there is that life style where they give a high majority up to material things they (non-investment items) they they don't keep or use much....4th is 2nd worse to investing in women....they trust their own thoughts...(spend wildy, my money, my way!)....all equaling drained in a few years...(numbers moving in the wrong direction is as strong and powerful as a tsanumi)..it's force is far stronger.....I'm a degree'd Accountant and there is no better way to sum it up......

Definitely sad and unfortunate the drugs and alcohol caused him to gain weight and would've been nice to see him and Gary Payton play alongside each other longer. Both of them did their thing offensively but also both played defense. Maybe in 1999 that could've been them winning a chip that year instead of the Spurs.

I'm don't disagree, but Kemp is probably the only person on earth to gain weight why using cocaine, I think the cocaine was a issues but not the biggest issue. I believe him not keeping active and just relaxing, smoke trees and drinking and being lazy was the issue in terms of his weight goes. I could be wrong and rich people have the cocaine that you can actually gain weight from lol.
